I'm excited to announce The Last Best BIKE Kickstarter campaign has just launched!   Building off the success of The Last Best SKI book this past winter; we have been busy in the shoulder season drawing, writing and interviewing for the new bike book. Podcasts from the research interviews are coming out weekly through June. Building a couple mean green manual machines is a great way to spend a snowy rainy spring weekend. Cutting up an old tire to nail to the bottom gives good grip on the concrete. While there are sunny mornings in the backcountry skiing perfects corn snow still ahead, the lifts are shut down and the grooming has stopped. The Winter 20/21 Ski Season has come to a close. It has been a memorable one with a lot of firsts for me. This season I skied 73 days making my goal of virtually skiing across Montana on I90 (554 miles). Completing 564 miles this season or 907 kilometers from October to April I made the goal by 10 miles (phew). Maybe I can go 1,000km next year… Skiing with the #BridgerSkiFoundation adult training group (Masters) twice a week was a fun social outlet and helped me continue to build skiing skills even in to my mid 40s. I even got a couple hour ski lesson on new techniques from four-time Olympian Andy Newell - mind blown! It is a joy to participate in a sport that has potential for endless growth at any age. My whole family made great progress this year on Nordic and alpine skis, especially the little one who shows no fear. Over 20 local skiers, coaches and program directors were gracious enough to be part of my #TheLastBest SKI book experiment. You can listen to these interviews on the new podcast Outdoors with Bryan Schaeffer. Add in my best 30k race time and placing 14th at The Rendezvous in West Yellowstone and a couple new KOM’s on local Nordic loops was a fulfilling way to close out the season. So clean up those skis, put the storage waxes on and get ready for the next season of adventures. In the meantime we are “gearing up” for a new book.
