I recently stumbled across r/charaoffensesquad and r/charadefensesquad who are opposed in that the members of each believe that Chara is or is not a bloodthirsty dustseeking murderer respectively.

Not to long ago, i talked to my wife and described my belief that there's two characters in UNDERTALE who go by "Chara" (or whatever name mew input) and while both of them are technically the same person, one of them is like the narrative embodiment of one of the messages of the game.

Mew have Chara, the first fallen human who was cared for by the Dreemurrs and became friends with Asriel, eventually attempting to escape the Underground with him

And then mew have the Demon that comes when you call its name, the narrative embodiment of detachment from a game's narrative and a desire to "complete" games by doing everything they have to do.

Mew can absolutely view these both as the same character but they serve such different roles in UNDERTALE that it's hard to justify them being treated as the same character, so i often refer to the latter as "The Demon".

I'm not gonna condemn either of the subreddits tho b/c ultimately they do not matter, but i think it'd be nice if more people put thought into the meaning and themes and ideas being portrayed in the media they interact with and gave them weight
