Welcome to BSD Rolling Remix 2019!
The 2019 edition of the Bungou Stray Dogs Rolling Remix is here! In this event participants play a game of telephone with a starting fic.
2019 SCHEDULE August 7-20: Sign-up period August 23: Schedule emailed to participants by this date August 25: First writing period begins November/December: Last writing period ends Some days later: Work reveals, followed by a one-week anonymous period One week later: Author and order reveals
All deadlines are at 23:59 UTC (please note the time zone!). The exact dates of work and author reveals will be dependent on the final number of participants.
More information can be found below the cut, and at the Dreamwidth and Twitter links in the description of this blog.
Please read this post carefully before signing up. The mod can be contacted through Dreamwidth (anonymous comments enabled in this community) or through [email protected].
This Tumblr acts as a mirror for the Dreamwidth community. RULES
1. To sign up, you'll need to provide your AO3 username and a working email address. You'll be able to indicate if there are periods in which you can't write.
2. You'll have two weeks after you receive your assignment to produce a fic of at least 1000 words. (There is no maximum word count.)
3. In your remix, you may change the characters/pairing/rating/genre of the fic that you receive. You can make a shipfic gen, or a gen fic shippy. Almost anything goes, but please:
4. Do not bash the choices of the fic that you remix. (The mod reserves the right to call this.)
5. Do not remix into a crossover or fusion, as other participants may not know the other canon. General AU settings are fine.
6. Do not write rape/non-con, major character death, graphic torture, or sex involving characters under the age of sixteen.
7. If you find that you cannot take your turn before you receive your assignment, you can defer your turn once. Please let the mod know as soon as possible; the mod will also check in on you 48 hours before sending you your assignment to give you this opportunity.
8. If you receive your assignment but find that you cannot finish your remix, the mod will adjust the schedule (whether to have someone else step in or to allow for an extension). Please note that this may make things harder for other participants, so try to defer beforehand instead if you have any doubts!
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is a remix?
A remix is a reimagined version of an earlier fanwork. What you do to reimagine it is up to you. (This article may be helpful.)
What is a rolling remix?
A rolling remix is like a game of telephone, but with fic. An original story is remixed, and then its remix is remixed, and so on down the chain.
So how does it work?
1. Participant A writes a fic and sends it to the mod.
2. The mod sends Participant A's fic to Participant B to remix.
3. Participant B writes their remix and sends it to the mod.
4. The mod sends Participant B's remix to Participant C to remix.
5. And so on, until everyone has had their turn.
6. When everyone has had their turn, the collection goes live without any identifying information. The authors and remixing order remain unrevealed for one week. People try to guess who wrote what, and in what order.
7. The mod reveals the authors and remix order.
Who can participate?
Anyone with an AO3 account and a working email address that you check regularly.
Do I need a Dreamwidth account?
No, you don't. All communication will be through email, although general announcements may also be posted onto this Dreamwidth community and other social media accounts. You do not need an account to comment on posts in this community.
How do I sign up?
Sign-ups will be open in early August, through a Google form.
I've started my turn but I don’t think I can finish my fic by my deadline. What do I do?
Please email the mod at your earliest opportunity.
Can I edit my fic after I've submitted it?
It's fine to make minor edits, but please do not edit substantially as the next writer will be working off your originally-submitted fic.
Can I talk to other people about my fic before author reveals?
Please do not share any identifying information about your fic before author reveals, even after fics have been revealed. The surprise is part of the fun!
(You may, of course, enlist the services of a beta reader if you plan to use one - feel free to discuss your fic with them privately.)
How does the guessing work?
Discussion of revealed works will be hosted on a post in this community when the time comes. You will not need a Dreamwidth account to participate, as anonymous comments will be enabled.
I have another question that you haven’t answered!
Please contact the mod. You can do this by commenting on this Dreamwidth post (anonymous comments are enabled, and public) or by email at [email protected]
