Trial & Error | Chapter 16
Tumblr media
Main Pairing: (jimin): student/idol x (main): foreign student
Side Pairs: main x (nct) jaehyun
PART 15
You were woken up in the morning to the feeling of Jaehyun’s arm slung over your hip, gently squeezing you into a back hug. You ignored it, assuming he was just repositioning himself in the midst of his sleep right before he nuzzled his chin into the back of your head and placed small kisses on you, causing you to realize he was wide awake. You then turned around to face him.
“It’s too early for this, Jae,” you groaned, wanting to go back to sleep.
He chuckled. “Well, good morning to you too,” he remarked, sarcastically. “Are you always this grumpy when you wake up?”
You jokingly rolled your eyes before getting closer to him, closing the small gap between you two. “You okay?” You were wondering why he was awake so early when the sun was barely up.
“No,” he answered. Your eyes were halfway shut but you could still see that a pout was formed on his lips. “I’m sad because I have to go.”
“This early?” you cried, sad at the news. “I knew you had to leave soon but not this soon. You didn’t have to spend the night if it meant you had to get up this early.”
“And miss out on being able to cuddle you for a few hours?” He giggled quietly as he began to run his fingers through your messy hair. “I wouldn’t miss it for the world.”
You grinned at his cuteness, squeezing him harder. Snuggling with Jaehyun was cozy and comfortable and you wished you could do it for years on end.
Just then, he let go of you, taking a moment to stretch and yawn. “I have to go,” he whispered before planting a kiss on your forehead and and gently beginning to stand up, not to wake the others. But just as he was about to stand, he couldn’t find himself to do it. Pulling you close, yet again, he whined. “It’s so hard to say goodbye to you.”
“Then don’t. ‘Only in the agony of parting do we look—”
“‘—into the depths of love,” Jaehyun finished the quote, both of you shocking each other.
You giggled. “My past best friend used to say it all the time,” you explained.
“My ex used to say it also,” he replied. “What a wise best friend.”
“Yeah, she was wise. Main reason I’m even good in school, she taught me so much. Taught me a bunch of Korean too when we were younger and we were practically sisters... but then she moved.”
“Aw, why?”
You shrugged. “Her dad got a job offer in marketing somewhere. Haven’t really spoken to her since.”
He gave you a reassuring squeeze “Would love for you to tell me more about her... but that’s for another time. I really have to go now.”
You both let out a chuckle as he finally stood. You sat up, ready to walk him to the door when he looked down at you and raised his hand, stopping you. “Don’t, it’s okay you don’t need to escort me. I just want you to get some sleep. Rest up so we can meet again later, ok?”
You momentarily closed your eyes, beginning to smile to yourself. With a swift nod, you let him know you understood. He then grabbed his keys and quietly exited your apartment, successfully not waking anyone up.
~~~~
Later that day, 3pm hit and you and the girls were at the karaoke lounge as planned. Jimin and the other boys had plans and couldn’t come but you didn’t mind. You guys decided that today would just be a girls night. And you girls were having fun, honestly.
That was until you all had an unexpected guest crash. A very annoying and unexpected guest.
“I don’t mean to intrude but where’s your little boyfriend?”
You rolled your eyes at Mingyu’s question, wondering why he was at the karaoke lounge with you and the girls to begin with. He randomly showed up and was buying food without asking, picking all of the songs to sing and talking entirely way too much. Not only were you annoyed, but everyone in the room was visibly feeling mutual.
“Who even told you to come here, Mingyu?”
“No one,” Jinsoul replied, rolling her eyes. “He saw my Insta and decided to crash the party”
“I’ll remind you to hide ur stories from him next time,” Eunah remarked , earning an offended glare from Mingyu.
“Maybe if you guys invited me places, I wouldn’t have to crash.”
“What are you talking about, we invite you everywhere ,” Jinsoul defended.
“I wasn’t invited to y/n’s sleepover last night.”
“She doesn’t know you like that, you can’t be mad.”
Mingyu gasped, turning back to you. “Are we not friends y/n?” he dramatized. You almost couldn’t even take him seriously with his tone.
“Half of the people there weren’t even invited,” you answered.
“Yeah, me included,” Eunah stated.
“Doesn’t make me feel any better about the situation. Still wasn’t invited by any of you.”
Heejin sighed deeply before finally speaking up. “I think you just need a girlfriend.”
“You think?” Eunah scoffed, making Mingyu roll his eyes as he jokingly shoved her head.
“As much as I hate to admit it, I agree,” he spoke. “The girls just aren’t throwing themselves at me like they used to.”
Jinsoul bit down on the Twizzler in hand, proceeding to call him a “concieted bastard.” She then got up and selected a new song, choosing Ikon’s “Love Scenario”.
Just then, your phone that laid in your lap buzzed. You picked it up, finding a text message from Jaehyun.
Jae ❤️ : when r u guys wrapping up?
You: soon, call me when ur done too so i can come over
“That’s Jaehyun?”
You simply shook your head, confirming with Mingyu that it, indeed, was. He paused for a moment then looked back at you, seeming to remember something.
“Hey. You guys,” he spoke to the other girls, gaining their attention once again.
The girls grunted, turning to him. “This is the best part , what do you want now?” Heejin whined.
“Did you guys hear about Aisha? She’s back, I ran into her at the Tom n Tom’s near JYP yesterday. What’s that about?”
Jinsoul took a deep sigh, walking over from the T.V screen to take a seat next to you. “Apparently,” she began, “her stepdad pulled some strings and got her a slot at our school for this last semester because, you know, people like her can get anything they want. Her mother quit her job in China and decided to move back in with her stepdad and she’ll be finishing up the school year here.”
“As long as I don’t have class with her, I’m fine,” Eunah mumbled.
“Why?” Heejin questioned, causing all three of the others heads to look at her immediately.
“She doesn’t know,” Mingyu stated in her defense. “She doesn’t go to SOPA, she’s never met her.”
“That is true,” Heejin confirmed. “But I still don’t get what’s so special about her.”
You wondered the same. With the way your friends refused to answer your question about her the night prior, you knew something was up. You had an idea but there seemed to be more to it aside from what you were thinking.
“It could be the fact that her father is on the board of SOPA. It’s the only reason she was able to get accepted back in this late.”
Heejin slightly frowned. “Think he could pull some strings for me?”
Eunah sarcastically laughed, along with the others before shaking her head. “Silly girl.”
“I was joking...” With a face full of disappointment, Heejin plopped her back against the sofa, her mind now clearly full of thoughts.
You looked around at your friends, debating on asking more about her when you caught Jinsoul looking at you. For a moment, she stared. Then she stood up, walking towards the door. “I’m going to the bathroom,” she spoke. “Y/n, come with me?”
Without question, you stood up, following her out of the lounge and into the nearby bathroom.
“What’s up?” you asked. “Why’d you have to pull me out?”
Jinsoul sighed as she crossed her arms and leaned against the sink counter. “I just... as your friend, I can read your mind. I know you want to know more about her.”
“Aisha?”
She nodded her head. “Girl to girl, I feel like you should know that she and Jaehyun used to be an item.”
The mentioning of this automatically made you roll your eyes. You weren’t shocked though, this is what you were assuming the second everyone dodged your questions about her. “That’s a given,” you replied. “Anyway, why are you telling me this?”
She instantly cocked her head at you, a sly grin appearing on her face. “Cut the bullshit, y/n, I know you’re seeing him,” she laughed.
You paused, not expecting her to be so upfront. I mean, you knew she was going to start interrogating you at some point but you didn’t know she would be so straight-to-the-point.
“You do?”
“I wasn’t born yesterday. Newsflash, none of us really were. But if it makes you feel better, everyone else is just speculating right now so don’t worry, your secrets safe with me.”
She smiled at you reassuringly but all you could do was sigh, slightly bothered with the newfound information just given to you.
Was this girl going to ruin things for you and Jaehyun? Does she still like him? Does he still like her? You had no choice but to assume he did since he had yet to tell you about her, even with him knowing that she was back again. Or maybe that meant that he’s just completely over her so therefore he didn’t care enough to explain? Or maybe—
“You really like him, don’t you?”
You looked at the girl that just interrupted your train of thought as she studied your stressed out appearance.
Nodding slowly in response, you gulped. “I’m scared to admit it because now I’m worried he might do something to embarrass me.”
“Like what?”
“Like get back with her, Jinsoul!”
“Hey, Jaehyun may be messy but he’s a good guy when it really comes down to it, despite whatever Jimin told ya.”
“Yeah, whatever happened between them anyway?”
Shrugging her shoulders, she began to fold her arms. “As much as I hate to keep it a mystery, I’m not one to get between messy situations like this. There’s three sides to that story and I’m not sure which one is true so I wouldn’t want to tell you a lie. Why don’t you just ask one of them? Jimin will probably tell you more than anyone else.”
You rolled your eyes, slowly growing annoyed with the entire situation. “Whatever. I’m so over it, I can’t even think about them right now.”
She laughed lightly then you both went back to join your friends.
Later that day, you sat up on Jaehyun’s rooftop, alone with him. The early night was chilly so Jaehyun gave you his jacket to stay warm. You accepted but that still didn’t break the awkward silence occurring at that moment.
Defeated, he sighed, looking you in the eyes. “So you’re really not gonna tell me what I did?”
Overlooking the city scenery, you ignored his gaze. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Come on, y/n, you’ve been acting weird since earlier.”
“I’m not the one acting weird, that’s you—”
“How so?”
You turned your head, giving him a glare. “Not sure, maybe Aisha will have the answer.”
He closed his eyes momentarily. “Mingyu told you?”
“It doesn’t matter who told me, the fact is that you didn’t. Dodging my questions about her and not offering to tell me yourself? Who does that?”
He sighed deeply, clasping his hands together. “I just didn’t want you to worry, y/n...”
“And what exactly would I be worried about? I wasn’t worried but now, knowing what I do, I feel like there’s a bigger reason behind you not wanting to tell me. If you’re not over her then just say so.”
“Baby, I’m completely over her.” He pulled you close, resting a hand on your hip. “I haven’t seen her in months, we’re done. I genuinely just didn’t want you to feel weird or awkward. Especially considering that you’re most likely going to be around her a lot.”
Be around her a lot? What the hell did he mean by that?
“Is there a reason I’d be around her a lot? You guys still friends or something?” You looked at him skeptically. You don’t know what it was, you weren’t exactly the jealous type but just the thought of him, Jaehyun specifically, still being friends with his ex bothered the hell out of you.
Answering your question, he shook his head no in response. “No, I’m not. But Jinsoul was. They haven’t talked in a while but I’m sure they’ll bounce back to the way they were before.”
“That’s... wow. That’s so annoying.”
He grinned at you, pushing your hair behind your ears. “Aisha’s not that bad actually, you’ll probably like her. She can be nice when she wants.”
You lightly slapped him on the chest. “Don’t compliment her, dummy.”
Giggling, he pulled you into a tight hug. “You’re the only one I’m interested in, y/n. I want you to know how much I care about you. Please don’t forget that.” He pulled away, looking you in the eyes. “I was gonna tell you. I just didn’t want to do it in front of everybody and I wanted to wait until the right time. Trust me when I say you’re the only one I’m looking at, okay?”
Beginning to feel reassured, you slowly nodded your head and Jaehyun went to plant a kiss on your forehead. When he pulled away, he looked at you lovingly, making all the drama in your mind disappear.
“Our manager left for the night. As we’ve been getting closer to graduation, the company has been less strict. Do you want to come in my room?”
PART 14
“You should be lucky that I’m gracing you with my presence.”
“You’re an asshole, Jimin.”
“And you’re jealous that my stories are better than—”
You quickly picked up a watermelon slice from the bowl near you and shoved it into his mouth, cutting him off, making everyone laugh. “Just chew, sweetie, chew.”
Jimin quickly obeyed—not because he wanted to but because he was tipsy and watermelon was his favorite snack when drinking, for some odd reason.
“That sure shut him up,” Mark chuckled from your couch.
You guys were a week into Winter break and your parents were finally out of the country so you were able to hold your sleepover. Initially, you had only invited Taehyung, Jimin, Jinsoul and Jaehyun but they all brought along some extra people. Jinsoul ended up bringing Heejin and Eunah, Jimin and Tae brought Jungkook and Jaehyun invited Mark, Johnny, Doyoung and Taeyong, though Mark and Taeyong made it known that they could only stay for a few hours.
Currently, Mark, Jaehyun and Doyoung sat comfortably on your couch, watching you and Jimin, whom were on the floor, Jimin’s head resting on your lap, bickering over ghost stories for the past twenty minutes. Taehyung, Jungkook, Johnny and Taeyong were standing up, playing a game of Darts that Jungkook brought over, and the girls were also sitting on the floor, smoking out of a dab pen that belonged to Eunah as music videos played on your hanging flatscreen.
“You guys wanna go to a karaoke lounge tomorrow?” Heejin asked, scrolling through her phone.
“Can’t, I’m broke as fuck,” Eunah spoke.
Heejin looked at her. “Well, I’ll pay, I was just asking if you all wanted to come.”
“I mean, I’ll go,” Jinsoul answered with a shrug.
“Ditto,” you followed.
“Where’s it at?” Johnny asked, still focused on the game. You were shocked they even heard you guys with all the noise they were making.
“In Gangnam, it’s called Cherry Split.”
“Sounds like the name of a strip club,” you chuckled out. Everyone laughed, agreeing with you.
“Well, are we all going to this ‘strip club’?” Heejin pressed, wanting an answer.
“We all kind of have a schedule tomorrow,” Johnny answered, referring to him and his members. “But we’ll probably be able to make it.”
“Yeah, it’d be dope,” Mark added, nodding his head.
“I really hope we can,” Doyoung chimed in, looking doubtful that they’d be able to.
“Bangtan?” you jokingly called the other boys, asking where they stood with this.
You felt Jimin giggle in your lap. “Don’t call us that.”
“Hell yeah, we’re going,” Jungkook said surely before Tae cut him off.
“We can’t, Jungkook.”
Jimin sighed, regretfully. “Yeah, we can’t. We have meetings and practice.”
You slightly pouted. Sometimes you hated having idol friends.
“Well, Johnny,” Heejin started. “Let me know before 2pm tomorrow so I can reserve a bigger room if so.”
He nodded his head before turning back to their game of Darts just as Jimin suddenly jerked his head. You looked down at him, asking what was wrong.
“Aish, there’s something in my eye.” He started to rub it, making his eye turn red.
“Jimin, don’t do that, you’re only making it worse!” you scolded him, gently grabbing onto his wrist in order to get him to stop.
“Okay but it hurts, y/n. Can you blow into it?”
Without hesitation, you told him to open his eyes wider with his fingers and began to blow.
“You might have to put water in it,” Doyoung suggested.
“Blow harder,” Jimin complained, almost in a whiny tone.
You couldn’t help but to laugh at the situation. “This sounds so wrong,” you chuckled.
“Just hurry up so I can stare at your face again,” Jimin joked, slurring his words.
Jinsoul scruned her face in disgust. “Ew, ok, I know you two are, like, besties but please go flirt somewhere else.”
As everyone but Jaehyun chuckled, you looked at Jinsoul sternly. “Stop it, we’re not flirting.”
“Coulda’ fooled me.”
You could see Mark trying to contain his laughter as he snuck small glares at a clearly annoyed Jaehyun.
You sighed, blowing one more time. “Is it better now?”
He nodded, a small grin appearing on his face. It was then, you took it upon yourself to stand up and walk over to Jaehyun, sitting on his lap as the others started a new conversation that you paid no mind to.
“What’s wrong?”
Jaehyun shook his head, looking at you. “Nothing, babe. Something seem wrong?”
“Yeah, you’re looking at me like I did something.”
Jaehyun looked away only to see Jinsoul shamelessly staring at the both of you and not breaking contact. “Can we go on your balcony for a sec?”
You nodded your head and stood up, leading you both outside to the deck. As he was behind you, he closed patio door to keep the others from hearing your conversation.
“Sorry about the Jimin thing,” you started.
He waved this off. “Don’t bother, there was nothing wrong with that, he’s just annoying me right now.”
You let out a breath of frustration, sick of them not being able to get along.
“Your friend is nosy, y/n.”
“My friend?” you chuckled, knowing he was referring to Jinsoul. “Our friend, and secondly, she’s not stupid, she’s gonna start asking questions... Should we just tell everyone?”
Yes, you and Jaehyun had a secret that you hadn’t told anybody yet. Just the other day, he officially became your boyfriend. You guys were just spending so much time together in such a short period of time, it had felt like you two had known each other forever. You were getting along so well and ended up developing quick feelings for each other.
It happened when you two were on a breakfast date at a lowkey cafe, eating fruit and crepes.
“Can I ask you a question?”
“Shoot.”
“I don’t wanna shoot you”, he joked.
“Jaehyun, if you don’t just ask the damn question, I’m gonna shoot you.”
Chuckling, he tilted his head as his ears began to turn a blush of pink. “Would it be weird if we started dating?”
“We are dating—”
“No, I mean dating. Like... you being my girlfriend dating.”
And of course you said yes. You liked him. A lot. You’d literally be stupid not to. But you still had yet to tell any of your friends and you knew you and Jaehyun would have to talk about how to break it to them.
“No, we can’t tell them.”
You were taken aback by his answer, wondering why he would want to keep your relationship a complete secret. You couldn’t help but wonder if he was embarrassed of you. Your thoughts must have been apparent because Jaehyun placed his palm on your face, stroking your cheek reassuringly.
“It’s not for the reasons that you think,” he informed you.
“Then... why.....” You were trying to understand him but you’d be lying if you didn’t feel at least a little sad.
He took in a breath, turning to the balcony railing and resting his elbows on them. “I know you don’t necessarily get it but it does have a lot to do with my career. I feel the need to be perfect all the time and I plan to keep it that way.. For now. I don’t want any ‘scandals’ at all and I don’t want people on the outside to know about my private life, especially the person that I’m dating. At least not until i know they’re the one.”
There was an awkward pause and it was then Jaehyun just realized how his wording sounded, making his eyes slightly widen. You chuckled at the cute face he was making.
“I mean, not that—”
You let out a chuckle. “No, I know. We’re still fresh, don’t sweat it.”
“And it’s not just about me,” he continued, “I have my members to think of too. I can’t jeopardize them for my own selfish reasons.”
You shook your head, knowing where he was going with this. “It’s okay, you don’t have to explain.”
“No, I do,” he replied, looking you in the eyes, seriously. “You’re my girlfriend and you one hundred percent deserve an explaination, baby.” He grabbed onto your waist, pulling you closer, making butterflies appear in your stomach. “It’s already obvious, we don’t need to confirm anything with them. They’ll know and that’s fine. Just don’t answer any questions.”
You were surprised that you weren’t as upset as you could have been but you knew better. You knew you were dating an idol and that this would be the reality of it. Oh, well.
“I know what you’re thinking,” he spoke softly. “You don’t have to be okay with this.”
You shook your head back and forth, letting the truth come out. “I’m not,” you admitted. “But I will be, it’s not that serious, Jae.”
“It’s not?”
You looked up from the ground to him, only to see him looking at you seriously. For some reason, this made you giggle, it’s what you did in awkward situations.
“No, baby.”
His grip on your hips loosened up as he let out a small breath. “Look, we don’t have to hide it, we just shouldn’t talk about it with other people.”
You pouted but nodded your head, understandingly. “That’s fine. It’s not like I’m dating you to show you off, I actually like you. It’s not about flaunting our relationship.”
This immediately put a huge grin on Jaehyun’s face and he, for some reason, started blushing just before throwing an arm around your neck and pulling you in for forehead kisses. You looked up, smiling at his dimpled face, attaching his lips to yours, giving him a quick peck.
Afterwards, he silently wrapped his arms around you in the attempt of a back hug. You knew you were about to have to go back in to join your friends so you were trying to soak up the alone time you were getting with Jaehyun.
You looked up into the sky, realizing how beautiful the night was. “Oh my god,” you spoke, “look at the moon.”
“Whoa, it’s huge.”
“Should we make a wish on it?”
You felt him giggle into your back. “On the moon, y/n? It’s not a wishing star.”
You shrugged, realizing he didn’t understand your intentions. “It doesn’t have to be, Jae, it’s all about manifestation when it comes down to it. The moon is very powerful when it comes to that. Especially a full moon.”
“Manifestation?”
“It’s a way of living. All you have to do is set a goal and believe in it. You don’t need a shooting star for a wish to come true.”
There was a pause and for a second, neither of you said anything. Jaehyun nuzzled his chin into the back of your head, kissing it. “There’s so much that I could learn from you, y/n.”
You quietly laughed to yourself, realizing that there really was. “There is,” you agreed. “Now, let’s make a wish.”
You both silently closed your eyes and mentally wished on the moon. You wished that you could continue to feel as happy as you did in that moment and that everything would fall into place for you and your friends.
Jaehyun hummed and you figured he was done. “Ok, we should probably head back in before they get too suspicious,” you spoke.
“Ha, as if they're already not but yeah... We should.” He then released you and allowed you space to walk in first.
When you walked back in, the music wasn’t as loud as before and everyone was huddled around the dining room table, eating chicken and talking but their voices got weirdly quiet and hushed as you both approached them and they stole a few glances at y'all.
You humphed awkwardly, wondering what that was about. “Why the sudden secretive behavior?”
“We could ask you guys the same thing,” Taeyong joked.
“Yeah, yeah, whatever,” Jaehyun replied, playfully rolling his eyes. “Seriously, what are you guys talking about?”
“Well,” Jinsoul started, “Ais—”
“Dude, don’t tell him!” Johnny cut him off.
“He’s gonna find out eventually, Johnny,” she defended.
You looked at Jaehyun who was now looking utterly confused and lost. “Did someone die?”
Jungkook huffed, seeming annoyed with the back and forth. “It’s not that serious, it’s just that Aisha’s back.”
The room quickly grew to a silence as Jaehyun froze and everyone stared at Junkook in annoyance. Either he was oblivious or he didn't care but all he did in response was shrug his shoulder and pick up another chicken wing before shoving it into his mouth, clearly unbothered.
All you could think about was why everyone was so scared to talk about this person. “Whose Aisha?”
“Another round of Darts?” Taehyung suggested.
They all jumped up from the table, running over to the wall where the game was. Everyone but Jimin and Jaehyun, that is. You heard them get loud again as they changed the topic, placing bets on which team would lose.
Yes, you were irritated with them ignoring your question but you accepted that they didn’t want to talk about it and decided to leave it alone. That being said, you turned to Jimin who didn’t look too good.
“Jimin, you okay?”
He shook his head no. You then placed the back of your hand on his cheek, then forehead to check his temperature. He wasn’t burning up but he was definitely warmer than usual.
“I don’t feel too good,” he groaned.
“Jimin, you only had three bottles of soju.”
He sucked his teeth. “I’m a lightweight, leave me alone.”
You laughed, telling him to stand up. He did as told and you let Jaehyun know that you’d be back. “Do you need help?” he asked.
“No, I got this, thanks though.”
You lifted Jimin from his seat to guide him into your room. He was pretty limp, which made it harder on you but you were still able to successfully get him tucked into your bed. He always took care of you when you needed, now it was your turn.
“I’ll be right back,” you told him. You ran to your kitchen pantry to grab a bottle of water and some advil then made your way back into the room only to see that Jimin knocked out that quickly.
You shook him lightly in attempt to wake him up. He fluttered his eyes opened, groaning. “Hun, there’s some pain medication and a water bottle right here if you need some,” you told him, pointing to your night stand that stood right next to your bed. “And there’s a trash can on the side if you feel like you’re gonna throw up. It’s okay if you miss but just try your best.”
He nodded his head, acknowledging you but too tired to do anything, he just went back to sleep. You left your room, closing your door behind you and went to join the rest of your friends in playing Darts.
Eventually, hours passed and you were all tired. Mark and Taeyong left because they all had a schedule in the early morning and wanted to get a head start when that time came. The rest of you guys buildt a bed on the living room floor out of blankets and pillows and you took your spot next to Jaehyun, drifiting peacefully asleep in his arms.
PART 13
“Wait, so you mean to tell me you actually believe in spies?”
You nodded your head, positively. “Dude, they’re totally real, I’ve done my research.”
“You’ve done your research.”
“Yes, there’s plenty of articles and documentaries on it.”
“What, on the dark web?” Jaehyun teased you. “There’s no way it’d be that easy to find.”
You rolled your eyes. Yes, it took you some digging to find, but you weren’t lying!
He laughed at your semi serious appearance and tapped you lightly. “Come on, I’m just joking y/n.” He looked at you for a second before deciding to pour you both another glass of wine.
When you had first arrived, he took you to the rooftop of his building and had a whole set up for you two laid out. A few candles and more than enough layers of blankets laid upon the ground, which was quickly dried up from the rain earlier, to your surprise. He didn’t fail to have some snacks and a small meal prepared.
To be quite frank, you weren’t expecting anything more than chilling inside with him, maybe watching some T.V but no, he actually arranged a real date with you. You couldn’t help but get butterflies upon the idea of his thoughtfulness.
You chuckled at the silly conversation as you picked up the glass, thanking him. He picked his up too and looked at you. “Cheers?”
“Cheers.”
After clunking the glasses, you both took a sip of the bitter yet smooth wine. It was pretty strong so you were getting a good buzz from it, allowing you to be more relaxed with him.
“You’re the type to believe in aliens too, I guess,” Jaehyun spoke, taking another sip.
“Sweetie, I believe in those more than I believe in spies.”
He almost choked from laughing too hard and you couldn’t help but to join him.
“Our next date should be at the movies. We should see a sci-fy together.” He laid his back on the ground, the pillows supporting his neck.
You smiled at the idea as you decided to get cozy and lay next to him. “We should,” you agreed. “What’s your favorite genre?”
Looking you in the eyes and smiling brightly, he took an arm and wrapped it over your waist. “You can’t laugh,” he told you.
“I won’t, I promise.” He stared at you and you could tell he didn’t want to say it. “Goodness, don’t tell me it’s romance.”
“What if it was?”
You accidentally chuckled before quickly shutting your mouth and trying to keep a straight face for the sake of his dignity. In response, he lightly gripped your side as he giggled. “You promised!”
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to, it just happened. There’s nothing wrong with you liking romance, hun.”
“Yeah, yeah, whatever.... What about you?”
You sighed, resting your arm across his chest. “Thrillers, horror, action.” His eyes widened upon hearing this. “I like the suspense,” you explained. “And the unrealistic realities of it all. As crazy as it may sound, it’s an escape from the real world.”
He nodded his head in understanding as you continued.
“For me, I’m not the biggest fan of romance because it sets unrealistic standards. It’s a let down, none of that stuff happens in real life. Love is... more complicated than what they show.”
He stared for a while, trying to read you when the wind lightly blew, causing your hair to fly. He took a second to enjoy the view of your messy hair before pushing it out of your face and behind your ear.
“It is,” he whispered.
You bit your lip, feeling that maybe you were looking at it too deep. “Sorry, I—”
“You wanna know why I like it?” he asked. You nodded. “Like you said, it’s unrealistic. It’s also my escape from reality.”
“Yeah except it’s in the guise of what’s supposed to be reality, that’s what annoys me. They’re nothing but a bunch of impractical projections.”
He laughed, his dimples deepening more than usual, causing you to blush. “Something tells me you were on the debate team at your last school.”
You playfully slapped his chest. “Shut up!”
“It’s just.... they give me hope. It’s okay to wish for the best in a relationship, y/n. Maybe with time, you’ll see that.”
He was right, maybe you were looking at it from too much of a negative stance. You couldn’t help it when most of your relationships ended bad. It was safe to say you did hold a grudge against love for a while and it’s okay to admit that.
You let out a breath, feeling defeated. “You’re not wrong, Jaehyun. You’re not wrong at all.”
While he laid, staring at you, you started to realize just why there was a romantic spark in him. You mean, the date alone showed how he viewed dating and to you, it was... adorable?
Before you noticed, you were staring right back at him. “What are you thinking?” he asked you in a hushed voice.
You grinned at him, placing your hand on his soft face. “You’re so pretty,” you said, stroking his cheek with your thumb.
Next thing you knew, he was kissing you. Small pecks at first. Once, twice, then three more before it progressed intensely, yet he still managed to be gentle. You remembered that he was a good kisser but now that you were more sober than before, you were in actual awe with the way his tender lips molded perfectly with yours.
You both went on like this for a good while and didn’t stop, you didn’t think you ever wanted to. But when he groaned softly, he knew it was time to pull away.
You pouted your now puffy lips at him. “I was enjoying that,” you whined.
He grinned from ear to ear, taking his eyes off of you and glaring at the night sky. “Don’t worry, there’s plenty more where that came from.”
“Ooh, is that a promise?” You mimicked his moves, looking up at the sky too. It was more beautiful than usual that night.
“It is,” he replied. “And unlike you, I know to keep a promise.”
You jokingly nugged his leg with your knee and you both let out a blissful laugh and enjoyed each other’s company until 1’oclock hit and you had no choice but to end the date and go back home.
The bar might have been low for you due to your dating history but you could easily say that was your best first date ever.
~~
You were shocked when you woke up for school and made it to the bus stop on time. What you almost forgot about for a split second was Jinsoul’s existence until you saw her sitting on the bus bench by herself for once.
When her sight landed on you, she froze as you rolled your eyes at her and looked the opposite way. You were so not in the mood to deal with her right now.
Suddenly, you saw Jimin coming from around the corner, putting you in a semi happier mood. When he saw you, he smiled brightly and you waved from afar. As he got closer, you realized he stopped by a 7-11 on his way.
“Hey, sleepy head!” he yelled.
“How’d you know?” you rhetorically asked as you took the plastic bag out of his hands to examine the items he brought.
“The eye bags explain it all.”
“You asshole!” you shoved him as he laughed and then you picked out an item: samgak kimbap. You unwrapped the food and started to eat, enjoying it more than usual since you skipped breakfast that day. “Thank you,” you said with a full mouth as you handed the rest of the food back to him.
He scrunched his nose in disgust but shook it off quickly and threw you a grin. “You’re so cute when you’re hungry.”
You turned up your face, pretending to be disgusted by the compliment. “Anyway, loser. Where’s Tae and Jungkook?”
He laughed, taking out some food for himself to eat. “Those idiots missed the first bus because they were up all night playing video games. They thought Winter Break started today, not tomorrow.”
Sad to say you weren’t surprised by this at all, it definitely sounded like something they would do. But on the other hand, you couldn’t judge. After everything yesterday, you felt like you didn’t have school either.
You shook your head, giggling at the situation. “I still can’t believe you guys have to catch two buses before this one. You all live so far compared to everyone else.”
“This area is too nice for our company to afford, I think.” He forced a smirk as he bit into a beef jerky stick and looked around at the other students waiting.
You knew it wasn’t his intentions but now you felt slightly bad and it was only 7am. But you quickly waved it off and continued to eat when you saw Jimin look behind you.
“I think someone wants to speak to you,” he said.
For a second, you were confused. But when you turned around, you saw Jinsoul walking your way. You sighed and dismissed yourself from him as he said he would just go chat with Minho.
“Y/n,” Jinsoul spoke, now standing in front of you. “Can we talk?”
To be real, you didn’t want to but you knew it wouldn’t be fair to not hear her out. So you nodded, approving of this request.
As she ran her fingers through her blonde hair, she let out a small sigh. “I had no idea about any of the things Heejin said to you yesterday.”
“Yeah, right—”
”You gotta believe me!” she pleaded. “Not to brag or anything but keep in mind that Jimin was my friend first. The only reason you know him is because of me, y/n. Do you really think I would be okay with someone using you and him for some clout?”
You licked your lips, almost at a loss of words. She was proving some points with that one. Now you just felt like a fool.
“I hardly know those girls, I only just started talking to them the other day and that was only because they were with you.” She paused, staring at you for a second, then she grabbed your arm lightly. “I know this might be hard to believe, given our circumstances but... I kicked her out right after you left. Y/n, you’re one of my best friends, I would never be okay with someone doing that to you.”
You tilted your head, looking at her adoringly. “You still consider me a best friend?”
She chuckled, squeezing your hand. “We never stopped. We just went through a small bump because I got so caught up with...” Jinsoul was now looking at the pavement, a somber expression taken over her face and you instantly knew the reason behind that.
“I’ve been meaning to ask you about him, are you okay?” You still couldn’t believe that Jacob would cheat on her. She liked him so much and as far as you were concerned, he liked her too. Everyone knew they were the cutest couple, him doing that was a complete shock.
“I wish I could say I was over him but it’s not that easy,” she replied.
“You’re strong and independent, you’ll be okay.”
“Eventually.” She looked back up at you and cracked a small smile. “Fortunately, I’ll be busy with training now so that’ll take my mind off of it.”
Just then, the school bus pulled up and you all hopped on and got ready for the school day. You knew you had some consoling to do so you linked arms with Jinsoul and sat on the bus with her as the two of you caught up on the ride to school.
~
Right before home room, Jimin insisted on walking with you to your locker when you realized you left your Chemistry textbook in there by accident but you assured him you’d only be a minute so he stayed behind.
As you exited the class, you began to put you hair in a ponytail when you were caught by surprise to see Heejin standing in front of your locker, clearly waiting for you.
You immediately rolled you eyes but continued to your destination to open your locker. “What do you want?” you asked, an annoyed tone hinted in your voice.
Heejin didn’t seem nervous. You can see that she looked apologetic but also, she wasted no time to start talking.
“I shouldn’t have told you any of that,” she spoke.
“You guys shouldn’t have done any of that, Heejin.”
She sucked her teeth. “It wasn’t me, y/n. And I’m not excusing anything. It was wrong, no matter what way I try to look at it. I just regret not telling you sooner.”
You shook your head, breaking eye contact from her to look for your book. “I don’t care, Heejin. It is what it is.” Your eyes laid upon your Chemistry 102 and as you grabbed it, you just realized that you were over it. Completely over it.
“Y/n, I was in a really bad mood the other night and I shouldn’t have snapped like that. I was mad at Kayla and was mad at you for defending her—”
“Which was childish,” you spoke, cutting her off as you now closed your locker. “Kayla is your best friend, Heejin. And I love Jinsoul but you can not let other people’s personal opinions about your best friend control you like that. Ever.”
Now she seemed regretful as she bit her bottom lip and clasped her hands together. “And I realize that now. I plan on talking to her. In the meantime, this is my apology, y/n. Please don’t be mad at me?”
You sighed, knowing you were going to have to face Kayla during class today as well. With so many confrontations happening today, you knew you had to persevere your energy and that started with forgiving people.
“I’m not mad at you, Heejin, I’m dissapointed. I just feel I need some space for a few hours... or days.”
With a nod, she agreed. “That’s understandable.”
That being said, you knew what you needed to do next. You walked back to home room and went right to your seat, turning to the woman whom sat directly behind you, still finishing a half eaten bagel.
“You need to talk to Heejin.”
“I know, she’s been acting really funny towards me lately?” She swallowed the bite that she was chewing before sitting up straighter and looking at you curiously. “Wait, is she acting weird with you too?”
You rolled your eyes. “Kayla, I’m not getting between this, just talk to her.”
She shrugged, not seeming too bothered. “I guess. Anyway, you wanna hang out tonight?”
It was very clear that Kayla had no idea about the situation at hand. And yeah, if you were upset at anyone, it was her. So, if anything, this put you in an even more annoyed state.
“Can’t. Ask Jimin, maybe he can spare you some company.”
At first, she looked lost but then she quickly shook it off, asking you if you really thought he would hang out with her.
Guessing that Jimin happened to hear his name being said, he turned back to look at you. Even though he wasn’t sure what you two were talking about, he had a feeling that you said something petty.
“Don’t,” he mouthed to you.
Sighing, you decided to take Jimin’s advice. Now definitely wasn’t the time or place and to top it off, it was just way too early for all of this. So you turned fully around just as your teacher walked in, prepared to start class.
~
By time lunch came around, you noticed you were one of the firsts in the cafeteria. As you stood in line, waiting to be served your tray, you felt an arm cling over your shoulder and you didn’t even need to look to know who it was. The scent of his godsent cologne gave it away, making you immediately blush.
“I think,” the voice to your left began to say, “we should start sitting together.”
You looked at Jaehyun, cocking your eyebrow conceitedly. “Someone moves fast,” you teased.
“Is that a ‘no’?” He grinned at you as you gently took his arm off you.
“Where in that sentence did you hear a ‘no’?”
“Nowhere, so I’m taking it as a yes.”
You giggled at his boldness but deep down inside, you felt flattered. “I take it you’re used to getting what you want.”
“You’d be suprised.”
You shook your head, opposing this statement. “Actually, I would not. And something about that makes me want to play hard to get.”
His jaw dropped in a joking manner as he tried to keep a poker face but couldn’t help but to let out a laugh. “You’re evil y/n.”
“And you’re lucky you’re cute.”
He playfully shoved you with his elbow and you followed by poking his dimple. The both of you smiled at each other sweetly as the line moved up.
“Y/n, we didn’t get to talk about that date.”
“Yeah, we didn’t,” you replied, suddenly getting butterflies as you thought about last night. “I had a good time.”
He smiled, relieved to hear you say that. “I’m glad you had a good time because I would like to take you on another one. A proper one... If that’s okay with you, I mean.”
A proper one. You weren’t sure what exactly he meant by that, as to you, that was a proper date. Especially considering your age and his schedule. Was the timing of the date messed up? Maybe, but he did what he could. And that alone, was the sweetest gesture.
You were about to respond but before you could even get the chance, you saw Jinsoul walking over to join you two in line as she looked at you both skeptically, arms folded in suspicion.
“Oh, hey—”
“What are you guys talking about?” Jinsoul cuts you off.
Jaehyun took a quick glance at you before looking back to Jinsoul. “I was just telling y/n that you guys should sit with us today.”
The line moved up.
“Sit with ‘us’? As in you, Jungkook, Eunah, Mingyu, Kyle,Hyeri and those other freaks?”
Jaehyun took the name calling very lightly as he cocked his head, chuckling at her. “Yes, me and those ‘other freaks’,” he confirmed.
“I’d rather choke on rocks,” she deadpanned before turning to you. “Y/n, if we sit there that means we’ve officially hit rock bottom, people are going to think we belong to a clique. Do you want to succumb to that?”
Jaehyun huffed. “You would know, little miss perfect, not too long ago you were sitting with us. And you know we’re not a clique, we’re friends with everybody. Come on, you say it like we’re not all still friends with you.”
She rolled her eyes. “Is Jacob there?”
Jaehyun sighed, seeming to suddenly remember that night. “No, he’s been sorta M.I.A. He’s been telling people he’s sick to get out of things.”
“Once a liar, always a liar,” Jinsoul scoffed, shaking her head in disgust. “Whatever, it’s up to y/n.”
You smiled, shaking your head in approval. “We should!”
“Then I guess we have no choice.”
After taking your trays and paying for your lunches, you all began to walk to Jaehyun’s table where some of his friends already sat, as you noticed Taehyung sitting at your usual table, distracted on his phone as he waited for the others to arrive.
You hadn’t seen Taehyung in a while and knew this was your chance to finally chat with him.
You slowly stopped walking as you got closer and closer to passing him. Jaehyun and Jinsoul looked back at you, curiously. “I’ll be there in a minute, you guys.”
Upon hearing this, Taehyung looked up and the other two shrugged this off and kept it moving. You looked over at Tae, whom was now smiling at you as you approached him completely. “Taehyung,” you greeted.
“Wow, she’s talking to me,” he jokes.
“I know you’re not speaking. I haven’t even gotten so much as a text message from you, this goes both ways!”
He pursed his lips together before blowing out an exhausted breath. “Well, I don’t know if you know but we’ve been preparing for a comeback. I know it’s not an excuse but—”
You chuckled upon hearing the news of this. “Wait, comeback? Oh my god, when?”
He grinned, shrugging a shoulder. “We’re not exactly sure yet, we’ll know officially in a few weeks the comeback date.” He raised an eyebrow. “Jimin hasn’t told you?”
“No, he didn’t.”
Taehyung let out a chuckle before looking back at Jaehyun’s table. He paused in thought, momentarily. “Why aren’t you with your friends?”
“I’m not gonna beat around the bush. I thought it’d be nice if you and I have a little chat about what happened. You’re always disappearing, I don’t know when we’ll get this chance again.”
He sighed and by the looks of it, you could tell he saw this coming. “You’re right,” he replied, nodding. “We should talk about it.”
You sat your plate on the table and took a seat next to him.
“Look,” he started. “I’m sorry I kissed you like that. In my head, I was mad at myself for ignoring you for so long that when we finally talked things out, I couldn’t hold back my feelings. But in reality, it shouldn’t have happened.”
“Your feelings?” you questioned, to which he then cocked his head, looking away as you saw him poke his tongue in his cheek.
“You’re really gonna make me say it, huh?” he asked, a grin on his face.
You started smiling, teasingly, as you realized what he meant.
“Yeah, I, uh...” Tae ruffled his black hair, getting slightly nervous before looking back at you. “I would be lying if I said I didn’t have a small crush on you, yn.”
You froze for a second, trying not to burst out into a fit of laughter but you couldn’t help it. As you laughed, Taehyung joined in, blushing deeply.
You weren’t stupid, you had your suspicions the day he asked you on that “date”, him kissing you just confirmed it. “I kinda knew,” you admitted. “I’d also be lying if I said I didn’t kind of have one on you too.”
He looked you dead in the eyes. “I knew, also. You’re not the only one who sucks at hiding their feelings.”
Now you were the one blushing.
“But if it makes you feel any better, I’ve been actually seeing someone. So you don’t need to worry about our past getting in the way of our friendship.”
He gave you a reassuring smile but all you could do was drop your jaw in response. Seeing someone? “Whhaaattt?”
He chuckled. “She doesn’t go to either of our schools and she’s not an idol or anything of that sort. But I actually like her. I’m gonna give it a little more time as of right now but then I’ll bring her around to meet you and everyone else.”
You pouted in happiness at this news. Taehyung was an amazing person and he deserved to be happy and loved.
“So going forward,” he continued, “I don’t want things to be awkward between us. I don’t feel weird and I hope you don’t either.”
You shook your head eagerly. “Of course I don’t, Taehyung! And I’m happy for you. We’re still gonna be besties. I love you, you know this.” You gently gripped his arm to let him knew you meant what you said.
“I love you, too.” He stifled a small laugh. “It’s good we’re both over each other. Plus, I think Jimin—”
“You think I what?”
You both turned to find Jimin walking up towards you guys, Jacob, surprisingly, following right behind him. You rolled your eyes.
“Aish, nothing,” Tae waves off.
Just then, you heard your name being called. You turned your head to the source of the voice, which was no other than Jinsoul’s, of course. She looked annoyed. Must have been Jacob’s presence being there. You couldn’t blame her.
“What’s the point of being over there when we agreed to sit over here today?”she yelled.
You sighed, standing up to get ready and go back over. As you began to pick up your tray, you suddenly remembered something.
“Oh yeah,” you started. “So my parents are going to Japan next week. My fathers company is having a conference there and my mom decided to tag along, I decided to stay behind. Anyway, I’m gonna have a small sleepover with my close friends, nothing crazy. Think you guys will be able to come?”
Jimin and Tae both looked at each other then looked back at you and simultaneously shrugged. “I don’t see why not,” Jimin spoke.
“We’ll be there,” Tae added. “Hopefully. We have to check our schedule but we’ll most likely be there.”
“Okay.” Then you looked at Jacob, who was shamelessly hiding his face from the side that Jinsoul could see him from. “Oh, and Jacob.” He looked up at you. “Just to clarify, you’re not invited. I’m sure you knew but I just had to make it clear.”
You gave him a smart ass smile as he squirmed in his seat before you turned on your heels to join Jinsoul, Jaehyun and his friends.
PART 12
“Would it hurt you to stop checking your phone for five seconds?”
You looked up at your mother whom was at her wits with you. After seeing a play that she’s been wanting to see since moving to Korea, she took you out for some shopping in Myeongdong, only for you to be paying hardly any attention.
With Jimin and Heejin constantly texting you, it was hard for you to not at least look to see what they were saying.
Jimin was apologizing and Heejin looked to be stressing over a test? Or something along those lines. You weren’t able to fully read what she said before your mom interrupted you.
“Sorry.” You threw a quick smirk her way before turning around to look at the jeans section behind you.
“You know, I’ve been trying to give you as much freedom as I can now that you’re 18 but last night was just unacceptable. You didn’t come home until the late morning, we heard you.”
You turned back around to face her, not feeling in the mood for this conversation. “I told you I was spending the night at Kayla’s place.”
“No, you said you were going to Kayla’s, nothing else.”
“Oops.”
Your mom closed her eyes momentarily as she placed her cell phone that was in hand into her purse. She then looked at you, taking a moment to try and read your mind. “You do it again, you’re grounded.”
Now you were annoyed. She hadn’t threatened to ground you since you were sixteen, what made her so uptight all of a sudden? “You can’t ground me, I’m an adult.”
“Whose living under my roof—”
“Dad’s roof.”
It was the deafening silence from your mother that made you realize off the bat that maybe you shouldn’t have said that.
“I’m sorry,” you started.
“A week.” Your mom raised her chin, eyes fixed on yours. You could tell she didn’t want to ground you but did it to assure her authority. “No friends over and no going out.”
Your jaw dropped so fast, you were sure you heard it hit the floor. “But mommy, Winter break starts after tomorrow.”
She stook her index finger up, waving you off. “Aht! Should have thought about that before back talking.”
She started to turn around as you quickly hug her from behind, making her stop in her tracks. “Please? Please, please?”
She looked down at your now pouting face and couldn’t help but to crack a smile. “There goes the kid I know. Let’s make an agreement.” She took your arms from around her waist and turned back to you before sighing. “No more use of your phone around me for the rest of the day and the punishment is lifted.”
That was it? Sheesh, you sure did have an easy parent.
You agreed and apologized to her before taking the next two hours to just hang out with your mom, no distractions. And you had fun. She purchased a lot of new clothes for you two and ended it off with a meal at a new restaurant that had just opened not too far from where you lived.
By time you guys got back home, it was 7pm and the sun was setting. You were surprised to be greeted by Jinsoul, whom looked to be slightly upset, at your front door.
You raised your eyebrows in confusion upon seeing her. “Hey, Jinsoul.. Is everything okay?” you spoke slowly.
She instantly put on an obviously fake smile, seeing the both of you approaching. “Y/n! Mrs. y/l/n, so nice to see you.” She pauses before turning to you. “Y/n, I haven’t heard from you all day. Is it okay if I grab you real quick?”
You glaced at your mom, knowing she was just on the verge of grounding you earlier. She smiled at you as she began to take the shopping bags out of your hand. “Go, it’s okay. Just be home before 10, you girls have school tomorrow.”
You nodded and said goodbye before Jinsoul pulled you away, storming out of the apartment building.
“Jinsoul, what is it?” you asked, wondering why she was acting so strange.
You guys continued to walk in the direction of her apartment as she let go of your arm, pointing at you. “Well, maybe if someone would have been answering their phone!”
You grunted. Of course, the one time your mom makes you put your phone away, you miss all the emergencies.
“Sorry,” you apologized, starting to take your phone out your back pocket to see what all the hype was. But just then, you a heard a thunder crack throughout the dark sky.
It was a bit cloudy all day but you didn’t predict that it was going to rain.
Jinsoul got even more annoyed. “Ugh, let’s hurry so that we don’t get caught up in this mess.”
You both picked up the pace and before you knew it, you were inside of her apartment. After taking off your shoes, you said hello to her father, who usually didn’t come home until late, from you what you remembered. Same as your dad.
“Hi, Mr. Jung! You’re home early.”
He smiled at you widely, happy to see you again. “Y/n, long time no see! So happy you could also join us tonight—”
You felt a hand grip your wrist before tugging you away. “She’s coming in my room, Dad, thank you!”
You smiled and waved at her dad as you passed the kitchen to go to her room. As soon as she opened the door, you saw Heejin there, sitting on the floor, wearing biker shorts and a t-shirt.
She was surrounded by multiple cases of water and chugging down a water bottle. If you thought you were confused before, you were utterly confused now. “Heejin? Why are you here? Is Kayla also here?” You looked around, wondering what she was doing by herself.
Heejin quickly finished the bottle and took a deep breath as she looked at you. “I existed before I met her, you know.” Then she picked up another bottle and started chugging.
“No, I know, it’s just...” You had never seen her without Kayla by her side, that’s all.
“Weed?!” Jinsoul yelled at you as she closed her door.
“Weed?” you repeated, lost.
“You let her smoke weed, Y/n?”
Ooohhhhh, you saw now. The party. You winced, now realizing that you probably shouldn’t have. “To be fair,” you started. “I’m not the one that made her. I had nothing to do with that.”
Heejin continued chugging water bottles in the background while Jinsoul rolled her eyes and moved to her bed.
“Ok well, you should have stopped her. Our company is making us take a drug test soon, how is she supposed to pass that?”
Your jaw dropped in shock. The thought of that happening didn’t even cross your mind. How could you guys be so reckless?
She looked at Heejin, disappointed. “You know if you fail, it’s over for you right?”
Heejin frowned after swallowing. “I know... This isn’t good.”
“Soooo... are you attempting to detox right now?” you carefully asked, taking a seat next to Heejin on the floor.
She confirmed, nodding her head, making you giggle. “First of all, you don’t need to drink this much water.” You pointed at the ten cases stacked up behind her in a messy pile. “It’s a good start but you don’t need to overdue it. Make sure you exercise for the rest of the week and also try cranberry and lemon water as well.”
Attentively listening, Heejin made sure to make a mental note of what you were saying in her head. “Got it!”
You smiled at her but it was cut short when you began to frown. “Also,” you began. “I’m sorry, I should have been a better friend to you that night and made sure you didn’t do it. I wasn’t thinking and now you have to go through all of this.”
Heejin put the finished water bottle down before placing her hand on your knee reassuringly. “Y/n, don’t beat yourself up over it, it’s okay... Plus, if it’s anyone’s fault, it’s Kayla’s. Why do you think she’s not here right now?”
As she rolled her eyes at the thought of Kayla’s name, you couldn’t help but to feel some kind of way. Why would she place all of that on Kayla?
You looked at Jinsoul to see if she felt this way too but all she could do was shrug. “That girl is bad news, I knew it all along.”
“Wait, you’re backing her up on this?” you questioned, trying to sound neutrual but it was obvious you were annoyed by the tone of your voice.
Heejin scrunched her eyebrows at you, wondering why you cared. “I would have never done it if it weren’t for her, you were there, you know this.”
You slightly frowned, upset with how they were pinning the entire situation on Kayla. “I just think... you should also own up to your decisions as well.”
Both Heejin and Jinsoul looked at each other in union, as though they were expecting you to agree 100% with this. Well they were wrong, you knew that what Kayla did wasn’t right but it’s not like she put a gun up to Heejin’s head that night.
“All I’m saying,” you continued, “is that Heejin, you’re your own person and at the end of the day, Kayla didn’t force you to do anything. It’s okay to admit that you messed up, hun.”
The room was silent for a while as they let what you said soak in. Of course they didn’t agree with you and it was obvious the only reason they were keeping their lips zipped was because they had nothing nice to say.
Until Heejin felt bold enough at least.
She took a breath in before giving you a snarky look. “I don’t know why you’re even defending her, the only reason she even became your friend and invited you to be a part of that stupid club anyway was because you were popular and she wanted to be friends with Jimin.”
Jinsoul quietly placed her hand over her mouth as you averted your eyes from Heejin, feeling embarrassed. You didn’t know how you were supposed to react to that. Like, what was she expecting you to do with that information? Talk shit with them?
While whatever she was saying could have been true, you were still firm with what you had just argued. And of course you were pissed, but you weren’t about to let them know that, you weren’t about to let them win.
Just then, a knock sounded on the door as Jinsoul’s father peeped his head through. “You have another guest,” he announced. “No more, Jinnie. It’s getting late.”
She shook her head, yes, as we all waited to see who was behind the door.
He walked away and right after, the one and only Jimin walked through.
Speak of the devil.
You sighed deeply, the other two curious to know what he was doing there. “Jimin? Is everything OK?” Jinsoul asked, tilting her chin up.
He smirked slightly, his eyes landing on you, whom was already starting to collect your things. “Yeah, it’s just y/n’s mom said she was over here.”
“Well, I was just leaving.” You were a bit more aggressive with that statement than you meant to be, throwing everyone a little off with your attitude. But at that point, you didn’t care.
You secured your cross body purse over your shoulder as you stood before proceeding to walk right pass Jimin, not making any eye contact or even saying goodbye to the girls. Yes, you were mad. And you had every right to be.
You found yourself speed walking out of the apartment building but by time you reached the elevator, Jimin had caught up with you. He placed his foot in the closing door, causing it to open back up.
He walked inside, looking at you concerningly.
“What?” you barked.
He squinted his eyes, not letting your tone affect him in the slightest as he stood directly in front of you, getting closer to your face to examine you as the elevator door behind him finally closed.
Although he was extremely close to your face, you did everything in your power to gaze your eyes every place but his.
“What just happened back there?”
You rolled your eyes, already fed up with his prying as you crossed your arms in defense mood and suddenly you felt your face getting hot as you tried to hold back your tears. Just as you thought you were making real friends, you found out how fake they were just as quickly as you got them. It all made sense to you, the more you let it sink in.
He touched your elbow but you immediately snatched it away from him and turned your body slightly, hoping he would get the point.
Your intent wasn’t to be a complete asshole to Jimin but not only did you still feel some way about the comment he made the other day, you just weren’t in the best mood right now. You were slowly starting to feel like you didn’t have anybody.
Finally, the elevator dinged and the doors began to open up. You felt like you could breathe a bit more properly once you stepped out into the main lobby. You weren’t happy to see that it was still raining outside. You grunted, trying to decide if you should wait it out or endure when Jimin walked back in front of you.
It was then you decided to walk.
Although he would not let you peacefully. Every time you tried to maneuver around him, he kept stepping in front of you, not making it easy on you to leave. This somehow aggravated you even more and your eyes soon became watery as you finally snapped on him. “Get the hell out of my way, Jimin! I’m not in the fucking mood.”
Goddamn it. You were crying.
You ran your fingers through your hair, exhausted, letting out a deep breath you weren’t even aware that you were holding in. Jimin looked at you, uncertainly. You could tell in his eyes that he was genuinely worried for you right then.
“Y/n? Talk to me, you can’t trust me?”
“Why do you care? Mind your business!”
“Why do I care?” he yelled back at you. “Don’t even go there, y/n! You know I care!”
He was right. At the end of the day, you two were close. You were just too upset to be nice to anyone in the moment. Your guard was up. “You wanna know what happened? They were using me to get to you. Everyone here is phony and I want nothing to do with it, okay? That’s what happened.”
He was in shock, not being able to find the words to say. You chuckled at the ridiculousness of it all before attempting to leave once again. For a second, you thought you were finally getting away until he caught up with you once again, grabbing your arm from behind.
“I told you what you wanted to hear, what more do you want from me, Jimin?”
He suddenly grabbed you by your face, startling you but then, he began to wipe your tears away. The affection had you somehow crying even more. Maybe you did still have someone left that cared about you after all. “I’m sorry,” you managed to whisper.
He shushed you, gripping onto your face even more. “Don’t be sorry, don’t be sorry. I get it, y/n.”
You then found yourself burying your face into his bergamot scented chest. You were getting your tears on his sweater but something told you he didn’t care as he hugged you gently, placing one of his hands on the back of your head.
“Don’t let it get to you, you don’t need them. You got me and trust me... trust me when I say there are plenty of people that want to be your friend, y/n.”
“Yeah, probably for the same reasons as them.”
“Come on now,” he spoke to you, softly as he pulled back to look at you directly. “I know it’s easy for you to assume that right now but you can’t think that way about everyone, it’s not healthy. I’m letting you know this because I don’t want you thinking that about everyone that comes into your life right now. You’re a great person, there’s so many other reasons why people would want to be around you besides you being my friend. I promise you.”
Slowly but surely, you felt yourself nodding your head in agreement. He was right, that definitely wasn’t a good way to think. And ugh, the sweet compliment. You were starting to feel like a complete bitch.
You stared at each other for a while. “Thank you, Jimin. I’m sorry for the way I acted.”
“No,” he spoke up, letting you go fully and creating some space between you two. “I’m sorry. I should have never... basically called you slut.”
You lightly giggled, tilting your head to the side. “I guess I kind of was though.”
“You weren’t at all. And even if you were, I was wrong for that and it wasn’t my place, not even a little bit. I was just... going through it and I shouldn’t have taken it out on you.”
You sucked your lips in as you awkwardly shook your head slowly, choosing to fully accept his apology. “You are...forgiven.”
He smirked, looking down shyly. “God, I hate when we fight.”
“Me too,” you admitted. “But I still have one question.”
He looked at you curiously, eyebrow furrowed.
“Why were you at that party and not in Busan like you said you would be?”
“Oh goodness, not that—”
“Jimin.”
He grimaced, a smile slowly appearing on his face. “I, uhm...” He looked down, suddenly not wanting to look at you now. “So... Taehyung and I kinda got into an argument. Like a big argument, which lead to me going back home early. I mean, as soon as the event was over.”
You raised your arms in shock. “Not again, are you guys serious?  What’d he do?”
“Jungkook told me, y/n.”
“About?” You weren’t understanding what he was hinting at.
“About the kiss between you and Tae.”
“Ooh... Oh.” That. Damn Jungkook. “It was barely a kiss.” He smiled at you. “What’s it have to do with you anyway?”
He shrugged, placing his hands in his front pockets. “It doesn’t, y/n. I just felt like you two were trying to hide something from me by not telling me and it made me feel some type of way. I just felt like with everything going on, you were pushing me away? If that makes sense...”
Now you really felt bad. You mean, you already thought he felt that way but hearing him confirm it didn’t make you feel good about it. “Please, Jimin. I wouldn’t do that to you. I’m sorry you felt that way, I’ll do better moving forward.”
He laughed, telling you to come closer before you two both hugged it out tightly. At least you knew for sure that you had Jimin by your side.
Right then, you both heard the rain lighten up. You pulled away, looking out the lobby windows behind you, seeing that it was doing nothing more than drizzling. “I should start heading back home,” you spoke.
“Let me walk you.”
After Jimin dropped you off, you wasted no time to take a shower and slip into some pajamas. You ate some food and chilled in the living room, catching up on a reality show before you went back to your bedroom, ready to wrap up the day. You picked up your phone on your nightstand as you flopped on your bed to check the time, only to see a text message from Jaehyun.
9:13 P.M hey we finished earlier than expected u can come sooner now
You threw your head back in exhaustion. “Dang it.” You actually forgot that you had a whole ass date with him and honestly, you were tired at the moment. But you made an agreement with him and wouldn’t want to break it. Plus, who in their right mind would leave Jaehyun hanging?
With that being said, you shot him a text back saying you’d be there soon and started to get ready. Luckily, your parents were in their bedroom, their door closed and on their way to bed, if not asleep already. They never bothered you at night so you didn’t worry much about them seeing that you were missing.
You made sure to disable the apartment door alarm before heading out and being on your way.
