Eddie nearly dies again and Buck forgets how to breathe until he’s reminded by Eddie himself.

“Are you breathing now?” Eddie asks, solely focused on the man in his arms.

“Oh,” Buck’s small voice is enough to tell that, yeah, he is back to breathing normally, but still, it’s nice to hear it.

“Ye– yeah, I think so.”

Eddie nods, lets out a deep sigh, then relocates his grip so he can hold Buck’s sides, feel his ribcage when he squeezes the soft flash encasing the love of his life, so Buck finds himself encircled by Eddie’s arms completely, and decides he’ll just rest his chin on the other man’s shoulder, eyes closed and heart full.

“I love you,” Eddie tells him. In one breath, secure, steady. No room for fear or doubt.

Buck is definitely not breathing now, and as if it’s some sort of sick joke, the first thing he blurts out is exactly that. “Well, now I’m not breathing, again.”

Buck can feel Eddie's fingers tapping against his skin. His palm is hot where it presses against the center of Bucks spine. At first Buck didn't think anything of it, thought the tapping was just part of Eddie's nervous habit when things go overly quiet. They're lazing around after a particularly hot round of morning sex. It's the first morning of a 96 off stretching out before them. After Buck had gotten back from taking Chris to school Eddie had tumbled him down to the bed, his hands and mouth roving Buck's body. It had ended with Buck bringing them both off all over Eddie's pecs while Eddie was two fingers deep making Buck see god. Now those same fingers keep tap tap tapping before pausing and then restarting in the exact same rhythm. It only takes Buck a few seconds of concentration before realizing its Morse Code. And maybe Eddie doesn't realize Buck knows it too. Or maybe he does and this is easier for him. Buck learned it from a HAM radio operator in Montana all those years ago and he's never been more glad for it than right now. He's pretty sure he knows what the words are but to be certain he closes his eyes and concentrates on the longs and shorts, works out what he had already suspected I love you.

They haven't said the words to one another yet, this thing between them is still so raw and new and fragile. Both of them too afraid to shatter the near perfection they've found so far.

But buck feels it. Has felt it for years now if he's honest with himself. Felt it long before Tommy threw it in his face. Long before Maddie looked at him with near disappointment and disbelief.

This immense love he has for Eddie fills up every empty nook and cranny he has. Eddie has carved out his spot inside of Buck's heart so deeply and so thoroughly that he can't remember a time when he didn't carry Eddie around with him everywhere he went.

Buck had never known that loving someone could feel like this. He never knew that just the act of loving someone this much could complete a puzzle he hadn't even realized he was trying to put together. But he knows it now, and there is nothing he won't do to hold onto it.

Feeling Eddie tap it out on his skin repeatedly, like it's a compulsion that he can't stop, fills Buck with so much happiness that it bubbles out of him, his face splitting into a wide grin as his fingers start to tap out a return message.

When Eddie finally catches on to what Buck is doing his movement stutters, he loses the rhythm of the message but it doesn't matter because Buck already heard it loud and clear.

Eddie tips Buck's head up, his eyes searching Buck's face before he starts a new message. His gaze never strays from Buck's as his fingers move

.._. ___ ._. . ..._ . ._.

Buck feels his breath hitch as Eddie's eyes bore into his, the truth of it written in the depths of Eddie's heated stare. The word bounces around in Buck's brain, just like its being written slowly and deliberately across his skin, forever.

All Buck can do is nod and let his eyes slip closed as Eddie pulls him forward into a desperate, needy kiss that starts round two while round one is still cooling on their bodies.

Thinking about Christopher Diaz today. Thinking about Christopher Diaz who knows that his life only has his dad in it, at first. Because his mom left him, and his grandparents are somewhere else in the country and his whole family consists of his dad. And then someday he finds himself in the car with a stranger, who apparently is his dad’s coworker. But then he understands that this guy is his dad’s friend. That’s pretty cool. And then he gets his mom back but then she dies, and Christopher Diaz is left with the knowledge that he truly, only has his dad, who will love him unconditionally and forever. But then he finds out that this guy, Buck — what a weird name, right? — is his dad’s best friend. And he still doesn’t have a mom, but apparently he has his Buck, and that’s cool. Buck is so cool. Buck loves the zoo, and loves playing with dinosaurs with him, and probably loves Legos and who knows what else! Maybe Buck likes whatever makes Christopher happy. So Christopher feels a little bit alone but then there’s this guy, Buck, who makes gingerbread houses with him.

Thinking about a child who thinks he only has one parent left in this world but then finds a Buck. And gets stuck in a tsunami with this Buck, who is not his dad but might as well be. And Christopher Diaz feels safe when he is with his Buck. He hangs out with his Buck without his dad, despite this guy being his dad’s friend, best friend. Christopher turns to Buck when everything goes to shit, and Buck simply is there, no matter what, no questions asked. Thinking about Christopher Diaz who probably used to think that he would end up being so, so alone in the whole fucking world if anything happened to his father, but now knows he wouldn’t be, because he has his Buck with him.

And I think that’s so, so beautiful, no matter what the relationship between Buck and Eddie is.

i need eddie to call buck cariño while he’s rushing to work— like buck maybe stays home because eddie is covering someone’s shift and eddie is late because ever since buck moved in he feels so relaxed, so at ease so not in the need to control everything and always be on it 24/7 that he feels like letting go and that morning letting go meant taking a little longer sipping his coffee. and so by the time he realizes it’s late, eddie is running around the house like a madman and in the end buck simply throws the car keys at him with a stay safe and eddie simply splutters a thank you cariño— buck bluescreens for the rest of the day BONUS POINT if buck shows up at the station because he has to talk about it and they end up being teased not only by A shift but B shift as well cause they kissssss obvs
