Esso 67-X, 1967, by George Barris. An edition of 5 cars based on the first generation Oldsmobile Toronado commissioned by Esso as part of Canada’s centenary celebrations in 1967. The cars were given away in a competition promotion with the 5th car being kept by Barris himself. The rear passenger compartment featured a curved sofa with a fold-out table

1970 oldsmobile 442. This one was actually originally a Hurst Olds model my father had made many years ago. I couldn’t use it as is becuase of the yellowing of the white paint. So I decided to give it a flat black coat. And then a metallic red over that. Honestly I love the way it turned out. Only thing I have to fix is the mark on the hood where my masking took the paint with it. And fix the windshield posts.. and maybe find some glass for it 🙃

Start to finish. Mustang pace car (slot car build) decals were a pain in the ass and kept ripping so I had to modify them extensively. But this pony runs like a dream. I think my best time down the track with it was like 1.40 sec.? (I’ll post of track for reference later)

Here’s the track. Built in my grandfather’s basement. Me and a bunch of guys get together every week during the colder seasons to race. For reference. The slowest class we run is 1.50 seconds. And the fastest (shown here) is top fuel, the track record so far is 0.88 seconds
