Hey guys!
I’m just posting an update but basically yeah, I’m still here! I’m itching to get back into the writing groove, but I still have a lot a lot of work to do. The next step is to hunker down and really focus on my portfolio website, but as well as finally write the research paper for the exhibition we just did. (It’s a long story, but basically this year is messed up and we ended up doing the exhibition BEFORE the research and only had like a month overall to slap it together.) So once more, a week or two before I can really think about being super active on here again.
Also can I mention I’m hella stressed omg. Like I’ll spare you the details of my anxiety attacks but if you have positive vibes, please send them to me at my personal since I won’t be logging on here to stay focused. Thanks!

I have my thesis exhibition ( !!! ) on Friday then really need to tuck into finishing up my portfolio website. Anyways, here’s a tracker and if you’re not on it when you think you should be, hit me up and we’ll sort it out!

He was certainly a SIGHT to behold -- having nearly been hit by a car before the man then calmly crossed the street as if his life hadn’t flashed before his eyes. ( To be fair, the driver had been relatively reckless. ) Not to mention that it wasn’t exactly cosplay season despite his outfit. Jack approached the smoothie bar, taking a moment to study the menu before simply turning to the young woman who also was present, choosing to gain a bit of insight as to these STRANGE & NEW drink concoctions.
“Excuse me, do you have any recommendations?”

Though it wasn’t his first time tumbling down any particular rabbit hole -- figuratively or otherwise -- there was something about this place that felt so strange and different, like a PROMISE lingering in the air of new things to come. The samurai had yet to determine if those new things would be good or bad, knowing he could only wait and see as he continued on his journey.
And while he felt considerably READY for anything this strange future had thrown at him, there was mild surprise as he encountered a small child, one who seemed quite knowledgeable and worldly perhaps in demeanor alone, though perhaps they were simply NAIVE and unawares of their surroundings. It wasn’t fear that ate at the edges of his psyche, but rather ANXIETY -- was this to be another instance where a simple misunderstanding would lead to some strange witch hunt? The best option was to move along as quickly as he could in the least, though he felt a bit foolish in approaching the child, sensing he already KNEW the answer to his own question.
“Er -- excuse me, small child... I am sorry to trouble you, but you wouldn’t happen to have a MAP upon you...””

For him, it had been entirely up to CHANCE ENCOUNTER that he had discovered this competition, having taken a different route than usual on his way across campus with the intention of stopping by the library. Of course, the flyer that had been shoved into his hand that he had initially held up to deny the paper hadn’t hurt, having forced the man to stop and truly consider what he was reading. Perhaps not everyone on campus trying to shove papers and books at you weren’t so bad.
The woman by his side had, on the other hand, spotted the table and practically beelined for it, which was TELLING. She was either interested in the prospect of competition or perhaps the prize -- for truly, it was a worthy cause. And from her response to his words paired with the friendly, gentle smile she gave, he could assume it was the latter. Perhaps he would end up meeting her on the mat depending on how they decided to structure this competition, though there was no clear information on how many people so far were signing up to compete.
“Jisuirou Tanigawa,” he responded a bit formally as she had provided both her own first and last name. But then the man gave pause, having learned throughout his few years here that usually, most had trouble pronouncing his name, much less memorizing it. So he provided an alternative, a bit of a smile making its way onto his face as well. “Though I also go by Jack.”
Of course, the moment she’d heard about it - a martial arts competition that if she won she could donate the prize money to her choice of charity - Jaehee had rushed to find more information. She’d done so, finding a table with fliers and people more than willing to give her more information. Of course this was all if she won but – if she did, she could help more people.
Tumblr media
The woman was surprised to hear a voice, eyes looking up suddenly through the rectangular glasses, to spot a man who seemed to want the same thing as herself. Well, she only supposed, seeing as he had a flier as well. “An amazing one, I just hope my boss will let me have the day off,” she replied simply, smile lightly gracing her face. Of course Mr. Han wasn’t evil, merely addicted tot he work he did. Hopefully he would understand she did not want to pass up such an opportunity…
“I am Jaehee Kang, it is a pleasure to meet you mister…” she trailed off, realizing she hadn’t yet asked his name. Whoops. A light blush covered the female’s face but she merely waited to hear if he would give his name at all. Hopefully he would.

'' it's starting to RAIN.. ''
Fall sentences

“Yes, it is.” The skies had FORETOLD of this for the entirety of the day, darkening dramatically as gray clouds ebbed and flowed with the light winds. It was good that it seemed to be only a steadily increasing drizzle as compared to a full THUNDERSTORM, significantly easier to bear through than to deal with wind and lightning.
“I am afraid I have no umbrella to offer you, but you may wear my hat to help keep you dry if you like.”

“You sound sick. Are you sick?”
Fall sentences
Tumblr media
There was a scratch beginning to develop in the back of his throat along with a fogginess that began to CLOUD his mind. Jack recognized the symptoms, knowing that he had little time to prepare before he would just crave REST and WARMTH when the illness would temporarily overtake him. Yet he hadn’t spotted any herbs that may be of use to him and help to stave off the impending cold, not wanting to trouble Sariatu in the slightest with his predicament, instead intending to power through it. Despite his best efforts, she had seen through his attempt at normalcy.
     “Er – well – yes…”

He had made similar observations – breathing through his nose was an IMPOSSIBILITY currently, his breaths coming to him as if he had sprinted up the side of a mountain and was unable to draw in enough oxygen. Not to mention the way his body felt almost as chilly as the autumnal air around him, yet his forehead was so WARM.
“Perhaps, but I will be fine.”

“Indeed,” he agreed with the assessment, hugging his arms tightly to help stave off the zephyr that rose momentarily, bringing with it the PROMISE of wintry temperatures later.

This land was STRANGE to him, but not the strangest he had yet to encounter -- and it was a good sign to him that the people who resided here largely were well-to-do and preferred normal routines. ( It decreased the likelihood of him running into large bands of bounty hunters, in the least. ) But it didn’t change the PURPOSE of his quest. The attitude of the other did little to disrupt the samurai’s calm demeanor, but it was telling of the stranger’s expectations. It was RARE that luck was on his side and saved him time by immediately providing what he was searching for, though he had to take it with a grain of salt. So Jack provided a tame smile, believing his best path was to try to flatter the man first based off of what he had evaluated of him, yet being mindful to not waste his time and instead get straight to business.      “Your reputation precedes you. I had heard of a genius mind that resides there, and became curious. I will admit that I have come to you in hopes of consultation.”
Tumblr media
Mojo lazily turned his gaze from the don’t walk light on the other side of the street to see who had spoken. The man he standing next to him was not what he’d expected, and the surprise manifested in raised eyebrows as his eyes looked the man up and down. It was painfully obvious he wasn’t from around here, but unless another volcano had forced its way through the surface of the earth within the boundary of Townsville–honestly that wouldn’t be the strangest thing to happen this week–this guy was looking for him. “Know of him? Of course I do,” he scoffed, looking back across the street. “I see him every day in the mirror.”

Upon watching the other sort through the bags, Jack began to realize the DECEPTION he had created, for it seemed like quite an amount for any traveler lest they had the intention of moving entirely. Yet it was well-played and intelligent, so smoothly implemented that even the samurai hadn’t thought to truly QUESTION it outside of merely pondering on the amount. In response to the man’s apology, Jack provided a simple nod and soft smile -- it was not something one needed to apologize to him over, understanding the importance of strategy that equivocated the importance of skill in combat, if not simply TRUMPED it.
He was similarly grateful for this man being so willing to aid a stranger, from creating the deception to help him out of a difficult spot, to patiently explaining the basic politics of the land, though the places he named sounded more FOREIGN than familiar. A land of samurai would have been quite a sight, but Jack had the sensation that it would surely be something entirely different from what formed in his imagination. So once more, Jack gave a nod of thanks and understanding, taking a moment to process the implications behind the stranger’s words. A dojutsu wasn’t unheard of, but nearly something of MYTH or LEGEND to him -- to have a man claim that his entire clan had such an ability was formidable, making him curious as to what else this land had in store for him. It was likely that regardless, he’d learn of some of these instances during combat, whether from bounty hunters or apparent misunderstandings.
Admittedly, the samurai was finding himself a little taken aback by the other’s generosity -- he wanted to doubt it, to let caution and cynicism take hold of his further decisions -- but he simply didn’t receive any signals from the man that there was TREACHERY intended. And if he had learned anything today, that lesson was that he was sorely underprepared for this new land. So Jack gave a deep bow of respect to the man.      “Then I thank you for you aid. I do not have much to offer in return, however. I hope that will be acceptable in trade for your time.” And upon straightening, he concluded it would be best to get to business, this man clearly intelligent and the samurai not wanting to insult that intellect by presuming to waste time. “I am called Jack.”
Once the bags were set down Neji got to assembling them in their proper way - as if he’d actually bring more than he could carry. As the other man talked, Neji tightened his bed roll, putting it back where it fit and soon had a fully assembled pack, once again.
“Well, traveller, forgive me my deception,” he said, nodding toward what was now obviously actually one bag. “I did not want to let anyone watching know I suspected something.” Though a traveller unfamiliar with Konoha was odd. He supposed, he was quite far from home but still. “Konohagakure no Sato,” he clarified, “it is a shinobi village to the east,” he said, “we’re one of the largest, quite famous in our own sphere of influence. Iron Country is the last remaining samurai country, further east and north than Konoha.” As for the Hyuuga…Neji resisted the urge to smile wryly. “We are a dojutsu clan,” he tapped next to his eye. “Anything beyond that is more than you’d be interested in.”
As he spoke, the man looked around and seemed to come to some sort of decision. The man’s words made Neji arch an eyebrow. “Well, just my lucky day to decide to be the good onlooker,” he said - even as he muled over the additional information. “I was here to meet someone,” he said finally, “they never showed. I don’t have a name, or I would ask if perhaps they were related to you, but as it stands, I think I was in trouble with or without you.”
He gave the other man an assessing look, and then a cool smile. “And as it happens, I would hate to come out here and have nothign to do.”

It seemed they were to never quite solve the MYSTERY of Halloween, Jack not even beginning to address that he wasn’t aware of Americans -- were they a race of some sort, perhaps some of the first ALIENS to colonize the earth? Yet those questions he kept to himself, not wishing to seem any further ignorant or strange than he already did to the woman, the information not seeming to be essential to know.       “I have trained the most in kenjutsu, as any other samurai. Though during my travels, I have found fellow samurai are FEW and FAR between.”
Tumblr media
“I guess you’re right about that.” She would never understand why Americans loved the holiday so much, it all seemed trivial to her. But the change of topics shifted her attention back to his gi, finding her eyes trailing over it once more. If he was wearing it, then perhaps he must be on his way to a dojo of some sort. “Is that so? Then maybe I should ask you to teach me. What is form of martial arts is your specialty?”

A thread where someone, who may or may not be close to Jack, treats him as the prince he actually is. He’s not used to it and uncertain, but it is still a balanced relationship between the two, Jack always trying to pay back the favors only to be stopped and spoiled despite his protests.
