so i lost a friendship group yesterday. they called it quits after 5 years.

they've been excluding us from things basically since this group formed (five of us). my partner and I have been having a really rough time with their new job hours and my health for the last 6 months and not once did any of the group actually check in with us in this time. all this started because we introduced them to a hobby and passion of ours (dnd), invited them to come be part of it for months, being told they had no interest. lo and behold, they start playing, albeit without us. they were more than happy to ask us for help and advice when they didn't know wtf they were doing, but they didn't want us involved at all. when told about how we were hurt at the exclusion, they took it as an attack, made it into a week long fight winding up in them saying "we didn't even think about you guys, we didn't think to ask you" and "we aren't good enough friends to have conversations like this". but having conversations between the other three while all five of us were on call was fine. excluding us from conversations by way of exclusively talking about things only they knew was fine. talking about nsfw things was fine. but not holding people accountable apparently, no we weren't good enough friends for that.

our main dnd group needs new players due to scheduling conflicts, our dm is also starting a second game and wanted us to ask around for players. so we ask our "friend group" as they're all online on across three different socials. they decline the weekend game, as it clashes with their soon-ending campaign. they don't reply about the Monday game at all. when we say "sorry for inviting you so much, we'll stop until you guys come to us as we just sound like a broken record" they call it quits.

we explain "hey, we only said that because hi, people pleasers, we felt like you guys didn't like us hanging out and we didn't want to annoy you more" but it's not good enough. they say the friendship has broken beyond repair due to them feeling "wounded". wounded where buddy? you guys were the ones who treated us as replacement friends, only "missing" us when your bf or best friend weren't around. your best friend who went a month without speaking to us, only to unfollow us on all socials right before you sent your "break up text" (which lasted 10 hours btw)

stupidly we stuck with this friendship, thinking they were actually going to see the inequality here (even with us bringing it up). it's been 5 years. I stuck through all the covid e dating breakups with the twitter doms who everyone knew were no good, but despite the warnings there was always the inevitable break up, meaning the friendships we made had to be severed immediately. so this shouldn't have come as a shock really. I'm the youngest in the group by years, I've stuck with the eldest one (10+ years my senior) through all the bs 6 week "they're defo the one" breakups. held their hand through all of it when I was fresh off the back of my most abusive relationship. I was 19 and I saw through it then. I'm 24 now and I'm fucking sick of it all now.

I don't even want a friendship after this, they were never there for me. not through my trauma healing, not through my miscarriages or abortion, not through my debilitating illness. I just want them to own up and have a fucking conversation about it all without them thinking I'm attacking them, when they promised I could speak freely without judgement. no prejudice where?
