have you forgotten that there are more ways to find diamonds than just mining. you could look through abandoned ships as of 1.13 and find them with those new treasure maps. you could find a desert temple and possibly get some from there, or from a mineshaft, or hell, even a STRONGHOLD would have something of interest.
