And how they all strongly associate love with destroying or losing oneself

i love having an overprotective dad character who is also a terrible terrible dad

he wants his kids to be strong enough to fight in a war all on his own so he can always always protect himself but also those kids will not ever ever EVER be Allowed to fight in a war in any way because like FUCK is he ever gonna let his kids get anywhere NEAR real combat

but also he will regularly duel his favorite son and destroy said son's mind and self esteem in a half-baked attempt to keep him in line (and, therefore, ""safe"")

It's hard to like, talk about certain OCs sometimes

Because I have such a clear idea in my head of what they're supposed to be

But i struggle with the vocabulary and eloquence required to specifically describe it, in detail

I love characters who are so, so self reliant

But not in the way that they'll never accept help ever

But that the help they ask for is very specific and in predetermined categories

They have built walls around them and shaped them in a maze, to keep themselves safe, and it's not so simple as "too stubborn to accept help", but not as idealistic as "they're just waiting for someone to prove they genuinely are willing to help"

Love writing characters who are constantly feeling some kind of fear, which influences their daily choices

Because there are so many ways to do it

And even two people with the same categoryof coping mechanism can still be completely distinct, individual characters

The way that Theo will mever have a life without suffering

The way he can't conceptualize things without adding in expectation of pain because experiencing agony is what he IS

The way that theo's body will be the first and last thing to ever betray him

If a single person encouraged me, I'd make a character about the inherent romanticism of being mutilated/destroyed

Azriel and Amari have tapped into a part of me so important, so specific, that I will mever truly be able to articulate it in a way that does it justice

There's a huge vibe difference btn the ocs that are softer than their original concept bc of their growth and change as characters ocer the years and versions

And the ocs softer than their original concept bc i would otherwise trigger myself or make myself feel like a bad person by extension

One of those is soft through strength, the other weakness

The people that love Vi can't fathom why he doesn't realize people like him, or think he's cool

But he doesn't even think that believing himself worthy of being loved is an OPTION, so

There's a little ways to go, there

Max: online far too much, has to be reminded rest of the world is real

Vi: online by necessity, and that's where the writing reference pictures are

Theo: online an average amount, mostly to communicate with loved ones

Andy: has never been seen offline, people wonder when he sleeps

Logic is so good

And a control freak

And hot

And had a severe panic attack because someone recognized him as a human being

And definitely doms just because he feels like he Should

And has it/its pronouns in his back pocket due to the Traumatic Backstory

And also he's hot

I love when being very similar makes people -esp family members- clash

Like Theo and Logic? Used to argue. A Lot. Like, going-to-fucking-war levels

But it's because they're using the same thought processes, from Opposite Sides of the problem

Vi is one of my few OCs who had two present parents his entire childhood

And his relationship with both parents is unique and individually traumatizing

I don't talk about his parents enough and they are such a deep part of why he is Like This

and also he hides it so much better than his issues with men, but vi is petrified of women with authority and that fear+trauma has led him to genuinely paranoid-esque behaviors when living near/around/with a woman of authority

Women he sees as equals, not a problem tho. So it's less obvious than his issues with men, as he was trained from toddlerhood that all men are above him in status so the concept of a man not being some flavor of authority towards him has not registered in his brain
