Summary: When a guitar is randomly sent into the glade, it felt as if a puzzle piece was clicked into place

A/N: Short one for y’all

“Why do you think they sent it?” Everyone whispered to one another, all peering in awe at the opened box down below them.

“What the bloody hell are they all looking at?” Newt asked, walking over to where you, Minho, and Alby stood in the back of the group.

The first in command looked over at him with a shrug, “Couldn’t get close enough to see.” He admitted.

You and Minho grinned at one another, “Maybe it’s some new weapons!” The boy exclaimed, you nodding your head vigorously in excitement.

The other two looked over at you with wide eyes, “For all of our sakes, let’s hope not.” Newt shook his head in disappointment at you.

Alby cleared his throat, seeming to have enough of the gawking boys, “Alright! That’s enough! Back to your jobs, all of you!”

Everyone reluctantly spread out across the glade, leaving the four of you alone, who all had the day off from your own jobs.

The group of you shuffled forward until you could stare down into the wooden box to see what the big deal was about.

“It’s a guitar!” You exclaimed in surprise, eyes widening at the instrument.

The leader and second in command exchanged a look of disbelief, “Why would they send this?” The british boy questioned.

The other boy shrugged in return, “Who knows why they do anything!” He exclaimed with a scoff, throwing his hands up and turning on his heel, “I have more important things to do then ponder the same question we all think about every day.”

You and Minho looked at each other with shit eaten grins, “I call playing first!” You each exclaimed at the same time.

Both of your eyes narrowed at one another in a challenging threat, “I call it.” You hissed at him.

“It’s mine first.” His voice was dangerously low.

Newt rolled his eyes at the duo, pointing a warning finger between each of you, “You two bloody idiots better not break the thing while trying to figure out who can play it.”

You stretched out your neck while Minho cracked his knuckles, “Don’t worry, Newtie,” You teased with a smile, “We have other ways of settling this.”

The boy rolled his eyes and released a tired sigh, turning around and going the way Alby had went, “It’s not my problem,” He mumbled to himself, “I’m not going to get involved.”

Right as you were about to lunge at the boy and vice versa, Frypans' voice rang out, bouncing off the stone walls, “Dinner!”

Both of you halted, eyes flickering down to the object before you, silently trying to come to a decision.

Minho was the first to step back, hands up in surrender while shaking his head, “Nah, man, it’s not worth missing Fry’s cooking.”

With that, he jogged off into the direction of the kitchens, leaving you grinning in victory because you had eaten a late lunch, therefore weren’t hungry.

As you picked up the guitar, a feeling washed over you. Holding it was just right. Like the sun on a hot day, or salt and pepper. It felt like it was a part of you.

Unconsciously, your hands moved to hold it in a way you somehow knew would work. How you knew, you didn’t know.

Perhaps in whatever life you had before entering the glade, you had played the instrument. It felt as if you had done it hundreds of times before, like nothing had changed from then to now.

A small smile tugged on your lips as you ran your fingers along the strings, letting a note loose.

Laughter filled the air alongside the smell of firewood, making for a rare night for the gladers.

You sat a little farther away from the large group, softly humming along to the unknown lyrics you quietly played.

“Hey, play us something!” Minho's voice drifted through the crowd, making you perk up in his direction.

All eyes were suddenly on you, your own widening when you realized he was talking to you.

“What?” You asked in disbelief, not understanding why he would think it was a good idea for you to play in front of everyone.

He smirked in your direction, leaning back against a log doubling as a bench, “I gave it up, so I think it’s only fair you play me something.”

You rolled your eyes, “You didn’t give it up, you just decided that you wanted food more.”

He shrugged, “Same difference.”

Silence fell over everyone, the only thing breaking it being your sigh of reluctance, “Fine,” You gave in.

After hesitating only a moment, you began to once again move your fingers across the strings majestically, releasing the beautiful sounds that it had to offer.

Simultaneously, everybody’s jaws dropped as they all gawked at you.

Your eyes fluttered shut, focusing on nothing but the melody that you produced, allowing the feeling of calmness that came with playing flood over you.

When the melody came to a stop, it was silent for a whole moment before a voice shouted out, “Play another one!”

And with a smile upon your lips, you did just that.
