so i had to end stream early due to internet issues, i'm fairly frustrated by this since i was having a lot of fun playing mw3, that and this is the SECOND stream in a row for this to happen. i wish i could just try again tomorrow but with me living in cali (and having NO ac in my home) i can't, all this next week it's going to be in the high 80s to 90s, and i don't want to risk frying my laptop to stream since even on these lower temp days it still gets pretty hot. that being said i'll be back to stream mw3 next Friday (June 13th) around 1pm PST! hopefully I'll have less scuff and more fun!!

bit of context for whats going on here Jasper (the kid) tried to help tame a large and aggrieve animal that he was told to stay away from, when the animal showed it's aggression was when Arlo (dad) got there to pick up Jasper. this is the after math. im really happy with how this came out tbh, like the blood color mixing, the bones, the meat! im really happy with this :} also a fun fact: today (June 3rd) is Jasper's birthday! did i think it very fucked up to do this art for her birthday? maybe did i semi rush this top get it out in time? mmmmaybe does it make me happy that i did this for their birthday picture? wouldn't you like to know weather boy.

this is a post in continuation of a post i did a few days ago! if you haven't seen it, it's ok but it'd give needed context to whats gonna be seen in this post and what I'm fixing to yap about!

Scripting!

(since tumbler lets me color text, when my oc Ambrose talks it'll be highlighted in blue, and when Walden talks it'll be in red, just to make it easier for you guys!) Ambrose ushers Walden into a room (either his office or a spare room.), there's a canvas on an easel, paint supplies, and a stool in the corner of the room. Walden takes in the room with a curious expression, turning to look at Ambrose with a furrowed brow. "ok, why the hell did you drag me in here?" Walden's voice flat, with a hint of irritation. what could Ambrose want that was more important than work?

Ambrose closed the door behind them, his expression unchanging as he met Walden's gaze. "Well, since you didn't like your last birthday gift, I thought I would try something new," his own voice lacked any excitement, he gestures towards the stool, looking from Walden to the seat. "Sit." Ambrose said as he walked to the blank canvas.

"…Ok…?" rather thrown off, Walden complied and sat in the stool, he couldn't see Ambrose behind the canvas and easel. he couldn't help but to wonder what the fuck his plan was, it was very unlike Ambrose to just… steal him away like this. it was weird, really weird. "So… are you gonna-"

He couldn't get through his question, Ambrose peaking out from behind to canvas and glaring at him. "Sit still and look at the wall," his tone had changed from that dull, and interested one from earlier. Now more snippy, like a parent on their last nerve with their child. "And no talking, I need to concentrate." He added before disappearing behind the canvas again.

Walden blinked, taken aback from the shift in tone. while yes he was used to Ambrose getting snippy, even agitated with him, he wasn't used to Ambrose's "dad voice" being used on him. Feeling compelled to obey from the voice Ambrose used, he sat still, not talking, just as he was told.

"Ok, I'm done." Ambrose said after what felt like forever of silence, standing from behind the canvas, Ambrose grabbed it, turning it so Walden could see it. "I'm a bit rusty, I haven't painted like this in…" he trailed off, he couldn't really remember the last time he had painted like this, it had been so long.

Walden stared at the painting for a long moment, at an utter loss for words. it was a painting of him? and it was a lot better than he thought Ambrose could do too. "wh- huh? when did you learn how to paint like this???" he asked, completely flabbergasted at Ambrose's talent.

Ambrose looked at the painting, head cocking to the side, then back to Walden. "Well- when you live as long as I have, you pick up on a thing or two." he said, hoping to dodge any more questions. but Walden looked even more curious and confused, so letting out a sigh he continued. "One of my kids, they really wanted to learn how to paint, but they were too scared to do it alone so I… I learned with them. I posed for them, they posed for me." He said with a bit of blush appearing on his face.

Walden couldn't help but to crack a smile, that was an oddly cute reason for learning how to paint, and from Ambrose of all people? Walden went to speak, he had only opened his mouth before Ambrose cut him off. "Don't, just take your gift and go. Not a word of this to anyone." Ambrose really didn't want deal with any sappy shit coming from his boss. And Walden did just that, taking the actually well done portrait of him and leaving the room.

when i get the idea for something, there are two ways it can go in the beginning. it completely depends on how "big" or "long" i see the project taking. like if its something that'll only be like one page? i don't go through the trouble of scripting it (which is rare but still-). but for things that'll take 3 or more pages get scripts. how i get ideas for what to write can very, this one in particular came came about after i had decided to paint Walden for his birthday. i had the thought "what if i do a small comic of Ambrose making and gifting the painting to Walden?". it took me maybe half a day at most to get the idea out and onto my computer, then i sent it to my dad to proof read and make sure all the spelling was good (mostly the dialog since i directly write onto the comic from the script). now how do i go about structuring scripts? well, when i first got into writing it was something like you'd see a more "movie script" approach (if and when i do one of these but talking about LS you'll see it there-), but more recently i've been doing a more "book" or "fanfic" way of writing structure. which is a lot more fun in my opinion, while there's nothing wrong with the other way i wrote, it just felt a lot more "lifeless" or "bland", but this newer way i've been doing feels like it could be a stand alone thing i could post. all that being said, time to show my script for this latest project! when writing i usually aim to have at least one sentence of dialog per paragraph, the only exemption to that for me is when i'm doing set up or need to explain something. this can be seen in the 5th paragraph, just after Ambrose "dad voises" Walden for the first time. outside of a few grammar corrections for posting, this is the original script! from writing to beginning the drawing, i usually do very little to no edits of the script. any edits are usually made while i'm paneling! speaking of!

StoryBoarding!

these are the storyboards for that comic, as you can see they are very, very bare bones! that's because these are meant to get the idea out, to see the rough placements of the characters, background, props, and speech bubbles. its not supposed to look perfect or even pleasing to the eyes! to help me not get so overwhelmed when starting a comic page, i normally start small, literally! those storyboards aren't done on the full canvas i use!

that black border is the size you see in the finished page, that pink one? that's the one i storyboard in! (the goober on the side is "Doodle", my son was watching me storyboard this and he thought it was funny how i draw in the characters and said that "the stick figures could be a character of their own!" so i drew one next to the box to make him happy.) i go from a (roughly) 210x280 mm canvas to a (again roughly) 30x40 mm canvas! and in combination with the size of brush i use (size 17), it help to just get the idea down onto the page without worrying about the smaller details! once i have every page roughed out i move onto the refinements!

Refinements!

as you might be able to see, when i get an idea for something i normally stick to it. but this is where i'll also where i do any and all adjustments to the story, mostly the wording or little bits of how it flows. i sometimes even play with character design here too, like if i have an idea of something small to put on one of my characters i'll likely put in there, just to see how i like it since i'll be drawing them over and over again in a relativity small amount of time. but going back to the "small amounts of story changes" bit. the ending of the comic seen here and the script are different, that's because at first i didn't have a good ending, then i thought "how would Walden handle getting given a gift he's been told not to tell anyone about?" or "how would Walden handle getting given a gift in general?". that lead me to the idea that, even with him trying to be seen as an ass, and or trying to keep an emotional distance from people, he still (obviously) gets attached and values the things people spent a lot of time to either think about or make for him. so that gave me the idea that he hung the painting in his room, to both keep his word of not telling anyone about it (because let's be real, he's not letting anyone in his room), as well as be able to see it everyday and appreciate the hard work Ambrose put into making it. another thing i want to mention here, since the refinement sketches are the place where i put in the words, it's also the place i mess with how a character talks. for this look at page 5, see how i made Ambrose's words more "fancy" compared to the pages before hand? that's because he's supposed to be an old character (over 500 years old), so when i was half way through writing his dialog and say that his words weren't too different from Walden's i knew i had to change something. what i ended up doing was a mix of cursive and print, this is supposed to give the feeling that he still sounds old but is trying to talk in a more "modern" way. another way i tried to make his speech "feel old" was when i was coloring in the speech bubbles.

i had made Ambrose's an off white, leaning more into a yellow to help with the "reading from an old book" feel. while with Walden i did a true white to help with the "i forgot to use dark mode :(" or more modern vibe! the difference can really bee seen when Ambrose cuts Walden off for the second time. also i've started to do this thing for when i write in text, for what ever character its for i use the color of their eyes to color their specific text. i've noticed it's helpful when i do a lot of dialog between characters, or when the character talking is off screen. there isn't much of a difference between the refinement sketches and line art, there's only a few in this comic and all on the same page.

the original sketch here has Walden drawn completely different and Ambrose's ears in a pointed down, i had known that i had wanted to at least change how i had drawn Walden as soon as i had "finished" the sketch, i really didn't like how he was looking with this one.

while this one, i feel l drew Walden a lot better and gave him a better expression, over all i think this Walden was a lot better than the other one. then Ambrose's ears are pointed up, giving him more of a agitated vibe.

this was the only other difference, it got all the way to the coloring faze until i decided to change where Ambrose is looking, i had felt that for Ambrose it would fit his character better to be looking away from Walden.

Bonuses!

this is the speed paint of the painting i did! it was my first time doing digital painting and it was a lotta fun, i want to do it more but i'm gonna be pretty busy these next few months so we'll see where i can fit it in!

Ending Yap!

i had bent to get this out the day after Walden's birthday post went live but i have adhd and forgot to get it all ready, but i had a lot of fun yapping about this! i might do something like this again when i've gotten further in LS's (Lavenders and Spiderlillies) production. i think going over how i write for my own story would be really fun, plus if i do i would yap about the world building that might not be seen as well in the comic itself. i might, might, also do something like this yapping about how i go about designing my ocs, i know i always love hearing about it when other people do. like hearing about that one very specific detail that they put in that isn't too noticeable at first, but when they point it out it's suddenly the only thing you can see. or if they put something on their oc that at first doesn't make since but when you get the context you go "i can't even think about this character not having that!". i love that shit, it's so much fun. but yeah, that's it! i hope you have a lovely timezone and thank you so much for taking think out of your life to read this ramble about my process!

Walden's Birthday Gift

since i forgot about Walden's birthday last year i was determined to actually do something this year, so me being me i did a *lot* bc i don't know how to moderate myself lmao- i had originally planned to do the painting since i had been wanting to get into digital panting, then i had thought it would be fun to do a little comic to expand more on Ambrose as a character! it was really fun to make all this stuff, i have a lotta wips and plan to make a post tomorrow about my process! from scripting, to comic thumb nailing, to final sketches! all while yapping about my thoughts through the hole thing! Crona's Winter Outfit

my son has this habit of sending me things that he thinks are "Crona core", so i took a few of those, modified them, then drew this! i didn't intend for this to come out near Easter but it's fitting with him being bunny themed lmao i had a lotta fun drawing this, i did a few new things (like using a special brush for the hedges-) and it was a lotta fun experimenting with techniques that i otherwise don't use! also, i have a lot of things in "Crona's Wardrobe" and a lotta ideas of how to draw him in them, so you bet i'll be posting more of him in cute outfits in the future :} (you can thank my son for this)

He is the current royal scientist, he was promoted to the job after his predecessor went missing. as the royal scientist it's their job to make sure the hole of the below keeps it power, mostly by making sure the core is functional. out side of his royal duties he's been working on workable prospects, ever since the war a lot of puppets where left crippled or completely without a body. in his work he ended up making Nova's body, it's very bug inspired since they love bugs and in his free time loves doing research about anything in relation to the fun little creatures. he's also a very "stick in the mud" kind of person, not liking when people give him nicknames or go against the rules.

“Child Of The Dungeon”

Rozū.

Rescued by Thistle, and given shapeshifting abilities as well as immortality.

Considered Thistle’s pet, even wears a metal collar that allows Thistle to find her wherever she is in the dungeon, which was important when she was a toddler.

Killed her real father in retaliation for what he did to her mother on their expedition.

Very violent, likes/eats any kind of meat or blood as a result of the shapeshifting abilities. (Even human flesh)

Thistle protects her fiercely, considering her the only untainted creature he’s met.

Has trauma, but forgets it as a PTSD response. Certain things trigger it…(lightning, anger, yelling, the smell of thick, smothering fragrances.)

Gets incredibly ill when she sees most human men, as a trauma trigger from her past. (Which was centuries ago..)

Has a very bad biting problem.

Teeth can bust through metal and leather.

Pansexual. Was never taught by thistle about attraction…

Fond of Laios, finding him warm and loving, if even a little bit dumb…

Laios secretly brings her leftovers if there are any.

Likes to shift into creatures bigger than Laios.

Chilchuck doesn’t trust her. Chilchuck, Kabru, and Marcille are the only three who have seen her bloodthirsty side. (Eating flesh and drinking blood.)

Chilchuck finds her disturbing as she can change the way she looks on a whim, meaning she can get away with murder. (And has…but he doesn’t know that)

Rozū finds Chilchuck cute, and likes his scent. (Iron and leather.)

Unfortunately Chilchuck has been bitten by her before.

Marcille understands her need to do whatever it takes to protect those she cares for…unfortunately she has seen exactly how far Rozū will go. (Murder and eating raw flesh and blood…)

Marcille is cautious, but protects Rozū…

Rozū is incredibly protective of Marcille as she reminds her of her momma before her biological father killed her…

Rozū goes to Marcille for trauma comfort…

Rozū sees him and thistle as father figures. (However thistle doesn’t like Senshi for taking his “pet”…)

Rozū unfortunately has a tendency to snack on raw ingredients when he’s cooking which makes Senshi frustrated…

Kabru wants to kill her, as he truly believes that she is the personification of misfortune.

Rozū likes him, and trusts him, but is wary as he’s a human man…

Has bitten Kabru as a defense mechanism when they first met.

Kabru has witnessed her violent behavior and thinks she should be eradicated.

Shuro hates her and she hates him.

Rozū believes he abandoned fallin and wants to eat him and rip him to shreds.

Fallin doesn’t quite understand her, but will protect her if in danger.

Both love eating monsters, but fallin refuses to eat raw flesh and blood.
