So the end of the world is coming right? So what do you do? We suggest help your neighbors... Stone Soup... While I recognize I may break my arm trying to pat myself on the back, I wanted to point out how something small can really help someone else out, and this might be the thing that is really needed right now. Our sewer main needed to be cleaned out, so why not use those tools to help out your neighbors while you're at it? This ounce of prevention might save several hundreds of dollars of problems in the future. If you're stuck in the house and don't know what to do, I challenge you to find and take care of something that your neighbor needs help with. It's the little things that we do that'll make our community stronger and able to get through hard times together. www.cabercarter.com (at Happy Valley, Oregon) https://www.instagram.com/p/B-DIytzheqR/?igshid=1fnjiifgybw6j

"Leave your message with your clients" notes from day one JLC Live Portland. Thank you to @davidlupberger at Remodel Force, for "selling your why". www.davidlupberger.com Have you ever been at the store and ran into a previous client then had a 15 minute conversation? It's true that the only person that knows your family as well as your priest and physician is the contractor that spend 6 months in your home during a remodel. Great talk and reminds us that ethical, excellent work is vital to home owners who trust you with the largest investment in their lives. Thank you David! www.cabercarter.com https://www.instagram.com/p/B5rWWZsBbT_/?igshid=q0kkgyy411l3

Service Bulletin: Homes built in Happy Valley from 2000 to current are having trim and siding issues. I’m seeing mold behind the siding and trim that is completely falling apart.
We use PVC trim on our remodels because they will never dry-rot, fall apart and are about the same price.
If you have a home in Happy Valley that was built in the last 15 years, you most likely will be seeing this on your home. If you can get a home inspection or call us to mitigate the damage.

I’m placing a piece of trim and look to see these guys flying down the hill. What a seriously fun hobby. Thanks Tyler and Jason for showing me the sport of longboard drifting. Very cool guys.

Hey all carpenters... Frozen adhesives will go bad quickly and are a pain in the butt to work with. So this is the "caulk box" to keep your caulk and adhesives at an optimum temp. At night plug this into shore power in your trailer/rig and it keeps all your adhesives at the correct temp all throughout the next day. Simple and effective. Next stop @fastcapllc for design improvements. One day I might even give old @thepaulkworkbench a run for his money on construction inventions. JK Hey maybe the guys in New England and in the NE would need it? #keepingcraftalive #vintagebuilders #askthisoldhouse #askacarpenter #toolaholic #craft #craftsmanship #toolsofthetrade #carpenter #woodworking (at Boring, Oregon) https://www.instagram.com/p/B3lgXdihfL0/?igshid=u83yozmphz0c

Today I watched my brother pack and leave for deployment. As a veteran seeing him leave brings worry, fear and respect to those still serving, especially in these times. We have to be strong for them, to show their home is safe and they don't have to worry about their civilian life while deployed. It might seem trite, but it reminds me a little of why we do this in construction, to feed our families, and fix people's homes. A lot of the time people only need work done once their home is threatened. In a way, they are fighting their own battles with the same conviction and focus needed to keep their families safe. But we as members of communities that have been tested, know it will be ok, that these battles can be won. However today, seeing my brother pack off for another war zone, it helps to bring it all into focus. As a veteran I got into this work because it fulfills a part of me that requires the same attention, phisicallity and curiousity that brought me into the service, however it isn't the same. Seeing a soldier leave for a deployment always leaves me feeling like I'm not pulling my weight and that there are larger forces at play than our daily battles. Perhaps in a small way we can do out part by  creating a circle of community that is stronger together, that learns from failures, that has shared ideals, and shares those ideals with the work we do every day. To build the security that together we can solve almost any problem facing someone, that frankly no one is alone in their battles. With this, maybe, just maybe we can help the community and be a resource, that we can remind the community that it will be ok, that we can help them and be a force multiplayer for safety and security. Perhaps I'm rambling, but as I said goodbye to my brother, I felt pride that we can build communities that our friends and loved ones feel safe in, want to come home to, by being a sheep dog among wolves, even in construction. #keepingcraftalive #veteran #bluestar (at Boring, Oregon) https://www.instagram.com/p/B3gpdhfBXGn/?igshid=rl5m5sjc9qr2

Over the summer we finished a deck project in Dundee. The home owner was an engineer which was great to have on hand if needed. Everything went well and the homeowners were happy to look out over the valley to capture the stunning views. Pro note, talk to the guys at Parr. We used the “rain-escape” system to help manage rain flow, with the added benefit of a 450 sq ft covered patio below. Also, when bidding, don’t forget composite decking needs sway bracing, especially when building on an elevation. #finehomebuilding #parrlumber #customhomes #customhomebuilder www.cabercarter.com (at Dundee, Oregon) https://www.instagram.com/p/BrDc-nRAuHd/?igshid=1vcki6msyrcm8

What do you do when you need custom windows built in a historic fashion and there isn’t a supplier? Ask you carpenter/engineer father to come out of retirement and help build them on site... We get into this business because of the examples set by the older craftsmen, for quality and unbending will. Thank you pops for your 50+ years of experience and knowledge, and your help keeping craft alive. #keepingcraftalive #carpentry #thisoldhouse #customhomebuilder #custombuilder #kentonpdx #pdx www.cabercarter.com (at Portland, Oregon) https://www.instagram.com/p/BrDeccagd01/?igshid=2vjg6ls4vx96

A customer asks me "can you look at my dryer, I think I need a new one or something is wrong" Me: "um...What does your dryer vent look like?" Home maintenance is something we are happy to help you with especially for our long term friends and customers. Give us a call and we'll go through the house with a fine tooth comb. A simple check from us around the house can save you from thousands of future repairs. Caber Carter also has video snakes we use to scope down walls into pipes and dryer vents. We can see areas you often wouldn't think of looking and we can help you figure out what the problem is before it becomes a nightmare. An ounce of prevention... www.cabercarter.com https://www.instagram.com/p/B20gOGZh374/?igshid=e4i1lpxhnba2
