Arborist Caboolture
Arborist Caboolture
Choosing and planting the right trees is only the first step in good tree care. Regular maintenance and inspections by a qualified professional are essential to keep your trees healthy and beautiful. A professional can spot and treat pest infestations, dead limbs, and other problems that you might not notice. They also have a deep understanding of safety protocols and follow standardized procedures for their work.
Before starting a job, the worker should thoroughly examine the area and the tree. He should make sure that the tree is not in a position where it could fall on people or structures. He should also ensure that there are no overhead power lines nearby. Moreover, the work area should be free of any other tripping hazards, and the area should be at least twice as wide as the height of the tree.
Allround Tree Services provides qualified and professional tree removal, pruning, stump grinding, and emergency storm damage services for Bribie Island, North Brisbane, Caboolture, Kallangur, Narangba, Burpengary, and Landsborough communities since 1994. How to Safely Perform Tree Felling

Tree felling is a hazardous and complicated job that requires extensive knowledge and training. It can have major consequences if not done properly, including damage to the property and serious injury or even death of a person working in its vicinity. This is why all forestry workers must use proper equipment, wear protective gear, and remain fully alert at all times during tree felling.
Before starting work, a worker should thoroughly examine both the area where he intends to cut the tree and the tree itself. This includes checking whether the tree is in a location that could cause it to fall on people, vehicles, or structures. In addition, he should make sure that there are no overhead power lines near the area where he is going to cut the tree. If any of these conditions are present, the tree should be removed by a professional.
Moreover, the area around the tree should be free of other obstacles that may interfere with your operation or the fall path. Make sure to clear all tripping hazards, and keep the area at least twice as far away from the tree as its height, in order to prevent injury in case it falls in a direction you were not expecting. In addition, the area should be marked by signal coloured warning signs to help inform other workers and passers-by of the potential danger.
Next, the worker should assess how far the tree will fall once he cuts it. To do this, he must take the tree’s lean into account as well as its crown asymmetry and snow-load. A simple method to estimate the length of a fallen tree is to hold an ax handle at arm’s length with one eye closed and then back away from or move toward the tree until the top of the axe is level with the treetop. This is an approximate measurement, however, and should be adjusted if there are other objects the tree might fall on nearby.
Once the worker has determined how long the tree will be and where it should fall, he should make a notch at the base of the trunk. The notch should be at least 25 inches wide and extend to the apex of the felling cut. He should also score a line that connects the apex of the notch on both sides to mark where the back cut should be made.
Finally, he should ensure that no one is in the fall path and then clear two escape routes on the non-fall side of the tree. In this way, he can get away quickly and safely in case the tree falls in a direction that was not planned.
It is also a good idea to have an assistant watching the top of the tree and alerting you when it is ready to fall. An assistant can also warn you of any sudden changes in wind direction or movement that might indicate the tree is about to fall, thereby giving the logger time to react accordingly.

The Basics of Tree Care

Tree care requires an in-depth knowledge of trees, shrubs, soil conditions and a variety of living and non-living factors that can affect them. In order for a tree or shrub to reach its full potential, a professional needs to understand how the plant grows, how nutrients are delivered, how insects and diseases attack, how fungi function and how climate, wind and rain effect the plant and surrounding area. In addition, the tree care professional must be able to evaluate all of these issues in a changing environment and act on them as they change.
The first step in effective tree care begins with selecting the right tree for your property and location. Then, planting it properly. And finally, keeping it well maintained with regular pruning and inspections by a qualified arborist. When done correctly, these actions will help your trees survive and thrive for a long time.
When a new tree is planted, it goes through a period of adjustment after being moved to a different location. This is referred to as transplant shock and can last for several weeks. During this period, the plant may appear wilted and a bit weak. This is normal and it allows the roots to start stretching and growing in their new home. During this time, it is important to water regularly and keep the soil moist, but not too wet. It is also a good idea to fertilize, but only after the ground has thawed and the root system can absorb the nutrients.
Once your trees are established, it is a good idea to start pruning them annually once they are older than 3 years. This will remove dead branches and encourage growth. It is important to prune to the correct shape for your yard or property, as this will keep the plant healthy and free of disease. Pruning is best done in the winter or early spring, before new growth begins.
Adding mulch is also beneficial to the health of your trees. Mulch helps to retain moisture and keeps the soil loose, which in turn helps the roots develop. We recommend using a mulch with a high organic content, such as wood chips or partially decomposed manure. Mulch should be placed no closer than 6 – 12 inches from the base of the trunk. It is also a good idea to remove weeds and suckers from around the base of your trees. Weeds and suckers compete with your new trees for water and nutrients and can sap the life out of them.
When looking for a qualified tree care professional, choose an ISA-Certified Arborist. They are trained to spot problems and issues that you may not be able to see, such as insect infestations and dead limbs. Plus, they have the expertise to handle heavy equipment like chainsaws and a deep understanding of safety protocols. They also carry the proper liability insurance and follow standardized standards of practice for all of their work.

What You Need to Know About Tree Removal in Caboolture

Trees provide a variety of benefits for both urban and rural communities. They add texture, colour and contrast to the landscape, offer a cooling effect, and are home to native animals and birds. They also provide shade and privacy, reduce wind speeds and erosion on the soil, and help with water filtration.
In order to remove a tree, a permit is required. Permits are issued by the City’s Director or designee, and require a ten day public notice period, and posting of a notice in the front yard. The applicant must submit a report signed by a certified arborist and a City staff evaluation will be completed prior to approval of the permit.
If the tree is in a protected area or is located on City right-of-way, the applicant must contact the Right-of-Way Division or Permit Processing for additional requirements. These include a tree inspection and/or a specialized field assessment.
In general, a permit is not required for the removal of trees less than 10 metres from a dwelling, but permission must be obtained in cases where a tree is deemed to pose a significant risk of damage to property. The City may also determine that a particular tree is to be removed if it is an obstacle to a safe and accessible road.
The best option is to get a qualified arborist to come out and assess the tree. A good tree lopping Caboolture will know exactly what you need and be able to make a recommendation as to whether the tree should be removed or perhaps if it should be trimmed. If the tree is a health or safety risk, the arborist will recommend that it be removed.

The Benefits of Hiring a Tree Service

Trees are a beautiful addition to any landscape, but they also require proper care and maintenance. Whether your trees are looking overgrown or simply in need of some trimming, a professional tree service can make all the difference. Having healthy, well-maintained trees will not only increase the value of your home, but it will also contribute to a healthier environment and reduce the risk of property damage from fallen limbs and roots.
Among the most important services that a tree service company offers is pruning, which includes removing dead branches and trimming back overgrowth. A company can also provide fertilization services to encourage tree growth and health. In addition to these common services, a tree service company can also treat trees for insect infestation and disease. This is particularly helpful for evergreens, which are susceptible to pests such as the spruce budworm and pine beetle. These companies have the right product solutions to exterminate these pests without harming the tree.
If you’re thinking about hiring a tree service, it’s important to find one that is experienced in the type of work you need done. Ask friends, family, and neighbors for recommendations, or look online for local companies. Once you’ve found a few potential options, take the time to read reviews and check their licenses and insurance coverage. A reputable tree service company should be more than happy to provide you with references from past clients.
Safety is the primary reason to hire a tree service. An unmaintained tree can pose a serious danger to people and property, with falling limbs or even the entire tree itself. In some cases, a tree may have to be removed entirely if it poses a significant threat, such as growing too close to the house or car, or impeding traffic flow on a road.
In addition to reducing the risk of falling limbs, a tree service company can help protect the foundations of your home, driveways, and sidewalks from damage by invasive roots. They can also prune and trim trees to keep them from overshadowing your house or obstructing views. Aside from these safety benefits, properly trimmed trees can boost curb appeal and make your property more attractive.
A tree service company can also assist with a variety of other tasks, including bracing and cabling, which help to enhance the stability of weaker trees. These professionals know how to install these supports correctly, which helps minimize the chances of damage or failure.
Aside from being able to perform a wide range of tasks, a tree service company can save you the hassle and stress of handling large projects by having access to special equipment that is typically too costly for homeowners to afford. These include cranes, bucket trucks, and wood chippers. Using this kind of equipment allows the arborist to complete the project more quickly and efficiently, while saving you money in the long run. It’s also a good idea to contact your home insurer before starting any work on the property, as some policies cover the cost of damage caused by improperly maintained trees.

Stump Grinding Caboolture

Stump Grinding Caboolture
When a tree is cut down on your property, the stump that remains can be unsightly, as well as dangerous. It may serve as a trip or fall hazard and can even attract unwanted insects to your garden. Stumps can also impede lawn mower access, making it difficult to maintain your yard. Fortunately, there is an easy and inexpensive way to remove old stumps: Stump grinding. This process involves cutting and grinding the stump down to below ground level, using a machine called a stump grinder. The result is wood chips that can be used for mulch or to fill in the hole left behind by the stump.
Many people are surprised to learn that stump grinding is not included in most tree removal services, so they must schedule this additional service separately. However, a company that provides both tree and stump removal services can handle the job more efficiently and at a lower cost than if you hire two separate companies to complete the work. Stump grinding should be performed as soon as possible after a tree is removed, since the stump will continue to grow and can eventually become tripping or falling hazards.
Stump grinders have a sharp, powerful blade that chews up the stump and some of the surrounding roots, turning them into sawdust-like mulch. Riverbend Landscapes & Tree Service uses a professional-grade stump grinder, which can handle the toughest of stumps while remaining portable enough to fit through most garden gates. It’s important to clear the area before attempting to grind a stump, and to protect adjacent plants with hay or cardboard. It is also important to contact your state’s 811 Before You Dig hotline and have underground utility lines marked before beginning the project.
While some tree stumps can be replanted after being ground out, it’s usually more practical to have them removed completely by a professional. Stumps that are not removed can also become tripping or safety hazards, and they may grow into invasive species like maples and oaks.
The base price for stump grinding is determined by measuring the diameter of the stump in inches, including any surface roots. When measuring, it is important to go “dirt-to-dirt,” meaning that the measurement should be taken from the farthest edge of the stump to its closest point in the soil. In addition, it is important to take measurements from multiple locations around the stump, as it can be tricky to determine its exact size when there are multiple angled roots. The final cost will also be affected by weather conditions, as grinding is not safe when the ground is wet or saturated.

The Basics of Stump Grinding

Stump grinding is the process of grinding down tree stumps to below ground level, typically using a machine called a grinder. It’s not a project for the average homeowner, but is an effective way to remove old tripping hazards and make the yard more usable. Before beginning a stump grind, you must first assess your landscape and determine how far the stump needs to go down. It’s important to measure the stump from multiple spots, including the edge of the stump and the surface roots. Then, consider the diameter of the stump (in inches) and how spread out the roots are, as these will factor into the cost of a stump grind.
If you’re planning to do it yourself, be sure that you have the right equipment for the job. Most stump grinders that can be rented through hardware stores are not large enough to tackle a full-size tree stump with extensive roots. You’ll also need safety gear, such as heavy boots with steel toes, pants, ear plugs, and safety glasses. These items, plus the cost of fuel for the grinder, should be factored into your cost estimate.
Before starting, clear debris from the area and relocate or shield any fragile plants. Also, be sure that there are no underground utilities in the immediate vicinity of the stump you plan to grind. Contact your state’s 811 Before You Dig hotline and have utility lines marked before beginning any work.
After putting on your protective gear, set up the stump grinder and begin grinding. When the blade gets close to the root, stop and turn off the machine. Sweep the blade from side to side and lower it into the stump a few inches at a time. Be careful not to overheat the blade or damage the grinding wheel.
The wood chips produced by stump grinding can be used for mulch or to cover exposed soil. However, you should also be aware that stump grinding does not completely remove all belowground roots. In some cases, the stump and remaining roots will resprout from their buried location, which can be addressed by hiring an arborist for another round of stump grinding.
Stumps that aren’t ground up will eventually re-grow, and they can become tripping hazards or lawnmower obstacles. By having them ground up at the same time as the removal of a tree, you can avoid this future expense.
Not only does stump grinding improve the aesthetics of your property, but it also prevents regrowth that may require another costly tree removal attempt. In addition, stumps that are left unground will attract insects such as termites, carpenter ants, and wood bees, which can then migrate to nearby healthy trees and your house. Stump grinding is a safe, effective, and affordable solution for eliminating these pesky nuisances. So, if you’re ready to get that stump out of your yard once and for all, call our team for expert advice! We offer complete stump grinding services.

The Dangers of Tree Lopping and Pruning
Trees are a natural part of our environment that help to balance the local ecosystem. They provide shade, fresh air, and even play an important role in preventing soil erosion and flooding. They are also a great way to improve the aesthetics of your property. However, a lot of people do not realise that indiscriminately removing trees – especially large ones – can be very dangerous and lead to the onset of several different problems. One such issue is tree lopping which involves indiscriminate cutting of branches for the sole purpose of reducing size. It is a very dangerous technique and should only be performed by qualified arborists with the right knowledge of the correct methods of pruning and shaping a tree.
Inexperienced landscapers are known to lop the trees that they work on because it is a cheap and relatively fast way to reduce their height. In most cases, this is done because they feel that the trees are too big or pose a danger to their personal safety or that of their neighbours. Unfortunately, lopping a tree will not only damage it but also create significant health risks for the surrounding ecosystem.
One of the biggest issues with tree lopping is that it often leaves open wounds in the trees. These can be highly susceptible to disease, pest infestation, and fungi which can lead to limb or even tree failure. Additionally, the new growth that a tree produces after being lopped is typically weak and poorly formed which can greatly increase the risk of them falling and injuring or damaging someone or something else on the property.
Another problem with lopping is that it can starve a tree of its energy reserves. When a large percentage of a tree’s canopy is removed during lopping, the tree will go into shock and try to reproduce what it has lost. This puts a tremendous amount of stress on the tree and can be fatal in the long run.
Unlike lopping, pruning is a much more delicate technique that focuses on modifying the shape of a tree through the careful cutting of branches and training them to grow in certain directions. As such, it is a more sustainable solution for those who wish to limit the size of their trees or change how they look on their property. As long as proper safety procedures are followed, pruning is a safe and effective option that should be considered when looking for the best Sydney arboricultural services.

Tree Lopping Caboolture – Beware of the Untrustworthy and Incompetent

Trees contribute a lot to the environment in providing shade and preventing erosion. However, the value of a healthy and balanced tree goes much further than that. They offer a variety of benefits for the property owners including enhancing the appeal of the area, adding beauty and boosting its functionality. They also help in creating a healthy atmosphere by filtering and cooling the air, making the place more livable and providing natural shelter to humans and animals. Hence, taking care of them is vital. One of the best ways to ensure that your trees are healthy and balanced is by getting them regularly pruned. This will not only keep them looking good but it will likewise prevent them from falling over and damaging your house or the surrounding property. This task is commonly carried out by the expert and licensed tree lopping Caboolture experts.
In case you are looking for a reputable Tree Lopping Kurwongbah service, then you have to beware of the untrustworthy and incompetent companies that do not take their work seriously. They simply want to feed their equipment and therefore they tend to give unnecessary reports. For example, I have seen some terrible arborist records that suggested 10 of the periodontal trees around a property need to be removed. This was clearly not the situation as you will find out later on.
Another typical scenario is a developer having to submit an arborist record before starting the development project. This could be anything from a simple report stating the exact trees to be protected through to a more comprehensive one indicating exactly how to achieve this and what type of pruning or full tree removal is needed.
A Grade Tree Services safely stump ground 4 large tree bases in a recent job on the Sunshine Coast. The client was very happy with the result. Contact them today for a free quote!

Pruning Trees For Health and Attractiveness

Trees need pruning to keep them healthy and attractive. Some of the most common reasons are to correct unsafe branch structure, encourage flowering and fruit production, prevent wind damage or to help protect against disease and insects.
Proper pruning also helps trees and shrubs grow correctly, preventing the buildup of dead limbs that can weaken the plant. Dead or damaged limbs can fall during storms, causing property damage, injury or even death to people and pets who are under the tree. Pruning reduces the risk of these types of accidents by maintaining proper distance between the tree and the home or other structures.
Many times, the pruning needs of a plant aren’t immediately apparent. It may take a while before the plant starts to show signs of overgrowth or becoming unhealthy. However, a little bit of periodic pruning can help prevent the problem before it becomes unmanageable and costly.
For example, it’s important to prune deciduous and evergreen shade trees properly. This includes removing crossing or crowding limbs, removing inward-growing limbs and thinning (reducing the density of a crown). It is a good idea to remove any dead or broken branches from a tree as soon as possible to reduce the risk of falling debris during a storm.
Another reason to prune a landscape tree is to eliminate branches that are obstructing sidewalks, driveways, or roads. This is especially true in areas where the traffic volume is high. Pruning a landscape tree to improve visibility can help prevent vehicles from driving into pedestrians and bicyclists.
When performing a reduction cut, it is important to make the cut at least a third — preferably half — of the diameter of the limb you are removing. This leaves sufficient leaf area to take over the photosynthesis work of the branch you are removing, and it helps reduce the stress that the wound will receive during the healing process.
It is also important to preserve the branch bark ridge and collar when removing a limb. This helps to ensure that a callus forms quickly, sealing the cut and preventing fungi from entering the wound and causing decay. A proper cut should also be slanting to help prevent water from collecting in the wound, which can slow the healing process.
The best time to prune is during dormancy, which lowers the risk of infection in open wounds and allows the tree to heal faster. It is also a good time to prune ornamental or landscape trees that bloom in late winter or early spring, such as azaleas, rhododendrons, lilacs, magnolias, flowering plums, and forsythias. These plants bloom on wood that is produced during the previous growing season. By thinning these trees prior to their spring blooming, you can often get an earlier and more abundant bloom. It is important to remember that pruning can be a complex task and that an improperly performed pruning job can harm your plant or even kill it. It’s essential to hire a professional that understands the complexities of trimming large trees and shrubs.

Steps in Tree Removal

Many trees can live a long time and become very large, but even the healthiest of them will eventually need to be removed. Some reasons for removing a tree include it becoming diseased, falling in high winds, or just growing too big to maintain in the landscape. When a tree is ready to be removed, there are a few steps that must be taken to make sure it is done properly. Some of these steps can be completed by the homeowner, while others must be done by a professional to ensure safety.
The first step in a proper tree removal is clearing the area around it. This will allow for easy access to the tree as it is removed and will help to prevent damage to anything nearby. A good rule of thumb is to leave an area that is twice as wide as the height of the tree and will be clear of any structures, fences, or vehicles. In addition, the area should be free of any tripping hazards, such as loose rocks and debris.
Next, the tree must be trimmed to remove dead or damaged branches and to make sure it will fall in the desired direction. Ideally, a professional will be hired to perform this step because it requires specialized equipment and knowledge of how to do it correctly. Having an experienced tree remover trim the limbs can prevent the need to cut them later, when they fall, and will also improve the final appearance of the landscape.
If the tree is located near power lines, the utility company should be notified before any work is started. Then, a certified line-clearance tree remover should be called in to ensure the lines are shielded or de-energized before any work is done. In addition, a trained worker should be accompanied by a second, equally qualified remover who can communicate with each other to avoid confusion during the process.
It is also important to note that some trees will require a permit to be removed, so it is crucial to check with your local city or county about any regulations before beginning work. While the cost of a permit is relatively low, failing to obtain one before starting can result in expensive fines later on.
After a tree has been removed, the stump should be ground out. This can be done with a stump grinder or by hand using a shovel. A shovel is recommended because it will allow you to dig deeper into the soil and expose more of the roots. It can be a very rewarding project that can take anywhere from a few hours to an entire afternoon, depending on the size of the stump and how extensive the root system is beneath the surface.
The most important thing to remember when having a tree removed is that it should only be done when necessary. A dying or damaged tree can pose a threat to anyone in the vicinity, including children and pets. Additionally, it may be time to remove a tree if it is damaging property or interfering with the natural landscape of a home or business.

Tree Trimming and Pruning

Tree trimming and pruning are necessary techniques that will help you maintain the health of your trees and shrubs. However, they should be conducted only by a certified arborist. This is because they require specific equipment and proper safety guidelines.
Pruning is a method that involves removing dead, dying or diseased branches, stubs, and overgrown limbs to allow the rest of the tree to grow in a healthy way. This helps the entire tree to get maximum sunlight and airflow through the canopy while keeping the risk of disease and pests low.
Trimming is an alternative method that removes overgrown limbs on shrubs and hedges to control their size and shape for aesthetic purposes. It also eliminates excessively dense bushes which may block essential sunlight and moisture from reaching your landscape.
When pruning trees, the objective is to make sure that all of the tree’s limbs are evenly spaced so the foliage will grow in a balanced and attractive manner. Generally, trimming is only needed when the tree looks too large or awkward.
How often to trim and prune a tree depends on its appearance, as well as personal preference. Trees should be trimmed once or twice per year to maintain the overall growth of the tree.
The One-third Rule:
During any one pruning season, you should not remove more than a third of the total crown of the plant. This is especially true for mature or older trees. Leaving the remaining branches sufficient leaf area to take over the photosynthesis work will help keep the tree from becoming weak and losing its color, texture and shape.
Reducing a Tree’s Height:
As with pruning, reducing the height of a tree is a difficult process. You can try to slow the growth of the tree by making cuts just above lateral branches that are at least a third of the diameter of the branch you’re removing. These cuts should be made at a 45-degree angle, sloping away from the center of the tree to direct growth outward.
This is a better alternative to topping, which involves cutting the top of the tree and letting it re-grow over time. This can be effective for young trees, but isn’t recommended for mature trees because it may have adverse effects on the tree.
Thinning is another method of reducing the size of a tree by pruning back to its original point of attachment. This procedure conforms to the tree’s natural branching habit and results in a more open tree, emphasizing the branches’ internal structure. It also strengthens the tree by forcing diameter growth of the remaining branches.
When thinning, you should always remove the terminal (bud or branch) back to a lateral bud or branch that is at least a third if not half the diameter of the branch you’re reducing. This will ensure that the remaining lateral branches have sufficient leaf area to take over the photosynthesis and fruit bearing functions that the removed branch would have otherwise provided.

What an Arborist Can Do For You
Trees are an important part of your landscape and the overall aesthetic of your home. They add to the natural beauty of your property and help protect it from insect, disease and weather damage. But they also require careful care to stay healthy and strong. A qualified arborist will help you maintain your trees’ health while ensuring they look their best.
They can provide a range of services for your trees, including consulting, pruning, tree removal and stump grinding. They can also advise you on when it’s safe and appropriate to remove certain types of trees, such as those that are dying or diseased.
Keeping your trees healthy requires expertise that you don’t have yourself, and it’s something an arborist has years of experience in. Their knowledge and training allows them to properly assess your tree’s needs and recommend the right care for it.
The first step in tree care is to choose the right type of tree for your property. A qualified arborist can help you decide on the most suitable species for your landscape, taking into account soil type, light availability and climate. They can also help you select the best location for your new tree and install it correctly to ensure it will thrive and look its best for years to come.
Next, it’s important to keep your tree healthy by regularly trimming and removing branches that are damaged, diseased or causing other issues. An arborist can do this safely and efficiently, removing damaged or dead branches without causing any damage to the surrounding area.
They can also reshape your tree to improve its shape or reduce its size for safety purposes. This can be done by removing limbs that are too close to other structures or access roads, reducing their weight or allowing them to grow more evenly.
If your tree is too large or obstructs your view, you may need to have it trimmed or removed entirely. An arborist will evaluate and diagnose your tree, advising whether it’s safe to remove or prune it and which method would be best for your landscape.
It’s important to remember that tree stumps are usually left behind after a tree is removed, and it can be difficult or dangerous to remove them by yourself. This is why you should hire a professional to take care of the job for you.
When you’re looking to hire a tree specialist, it’s important to make sure they’re licensed and insured to do the work. You should also make sure they’re a member of the International Society of Arborists (ISA).

Tree Felling – How to Safely Fell a Tree

Tree felling is a dangerous job that can result in serious injury or death. It is a job that should only be undertaken by skilled and experienced workers who are properly equipped with the necessary safety gear.
Before attempting to fell a tree, you should always plan the cut so that when the tree falls, it does not come into contact with any other trees or objects. It is also important to clear away obstacles such as fences, old stumps and overhead wires so that they do not interfere with the fall.
You should also be able to estimate the height of the tree so that you know where it will land when it falls. A simple measurement technique involves using a stick held at arm’s length and bending it so that the top of the stick lines up with the tree’s crown.
Once you have a good idea of the height of the tree, you can start making the felling cut. The first cut should be a notch that is about one-third of the way down into the tree’s trunk. This is called the hinge and will guide the tree to fall in the desired direction.
Make the notch in a way that it is deep enough to support the weight of your chainsaw but not so deep that it will break under the weight of the cut or the wedge. The notch should be at least four feet high, and the bottom of it should not be closer than two feet to the ground.
After the notch, cut downward on the side of the trunk that will face where it is going to fall, at an angle of about 70 degrees. Be sure to cut at a slow pace so that you do not cause the tree to sway or swing when it is falling.
A safe escape route should be created around the tree so that you can retreat when it starts to fall. This should be at a distance of about 45 degrees behind the tree in both directions, and it should be cleared of branches and other obstructions that could trip you.
When you’re finished, wait a few minutes to make sure there are no dead branches or other debris that can fall to the ground and hurt or kill you. They are called widowmakers and are a major cause of accidents.
Felling is not an easy task and it requires a great deal of planning, focus and caution. It is a job that should not be attempted on a day when you are tired or sick, and it is best to hire a professional for the work.
If the tree is too tall to reach with a saw, it may require a rigging cable to remove it from the ground. This can be a time-consuming process, but it is often the only option when there’s no space for it to fall safely.
You should never try to cut a tree down when it’s windy or raining, as this can cause the limbs to blow away and potentially injure you. This is especially true if you haven’t practiced using the right sawing technique or are working in conditions that are too harsh for your body.

How to Properly Take Care of Your Trees
Trees are one of the most valuable features of any landscape. They provide beauty, shade, and even reduce energy costs for buildings on your property. Keeping them healthy and protected is essential to their longevity and beauty.
ISA Certified Arborists® know that good tree care is the first line of defense against many health issues. It starts with the selection of the right tree species for your location and then extends to proactively identifying and preventing problems before they arise.
Proper installation is also crucial to the tree’s long-term health and vitality. It’s best to hire a professional who can properly site your trees and take into account a variety of factors such as drainage, soil type, light availability and climate.
Newly planted trees need plenty of water to overcome shock and get established. Planting techniques should include a deep hole that allows the roots to sink into the ground and backfilling the hole with a mixture of soil and mulch. The watering you do during this process helps the root system get a head start on absorbing nutrients and oxygen from the air.
Once the hole is filled, spread a layer of organic mulch on top. Mulch can conserve moisture, add organic matter to the soil, control weeds and help your new tree produce better results. It should be at least 2-4″ thick over the root zone and away from the trunk flare, according to the NGA.
After your tree has been planted, water it every day until the initial week. During the following weeks, water it twice a day for the next three months, or as needed until it’s well-established in the ground.
It’s important to keep your newly planted tree hydrated because it can quickly become dehydrated and suffer from root rot or mold. Make sure to use a ring of soil and mulch around the base of your tree to create a “dish” shape for the root system to soak up water.
The ring can be filled with water multiple times to ensure that your tree gets the water it needs throughout the summer and into the fall. It’s best to check the soil beneath your mulch between waterings and be sure that it is moist, but not soaked.
When a tree is properly pruned, it can reduce its overall density and stress from gravity, wind, ice or snow. It’s also a good way to get rid of dead or diseased branches and to improve its overall structure.
Avoid trimming large limbs that are close to electrical lines. This can stress out a tree, making it more susceptible to damage from storms. It’s best to have your trees properly trimmed away from power lines by a trained and licensed arborist, or at least to have any pruning done with an ISA Certified Arborist®.
Trees are an integral part of any home’s exterior, but they need to be properly cared for if they are to thrive. A well-cared for tree provides beauty and shade, but also can protect your home and property from insect, disease and weather damage.
