I’m sure this has been said before somewhere in the fandom or maybe it’s canon and I’m forgetting but does anyone else think in the book version, the White Walkers are into the cold/bring the cold with them/want the world to always be winter because corpses rot slower in freezing temperatures? Like, corpse White Walkers, corpse wights, maybe whoever created them was trying to keep the first one or first handful from rotting so they gave them ice magic? Like clearly fire magic can be used for necromancy because of Lady Stoneheart and Berric Dondarion , so maybe someone using that kind of magic or an “icy” version of it created the army of the dead, then they had to come up with a way to keep their army from rotting before it could do what needed to be done, hence the ice. Plus doesn’t R’hllor have his opposite “The Great Other” and the army of the dead is called the Others. Plus the symbolism of “the song of ice and fire”, maybe resurrecting someone in R’hllors name gives them back their previous sentience because R’hllor wants an army of the living and willing, whereas resurrecting someone in The Great Others name results in mindless drones because the great other cares more about having an army than having a willing one, plus we see based on all we know about the fire priests and priestesses and their beliefs that they know about the army of the dead and believe the Great Other is responsible. All of this to say, maybe the Great Other or whatever person on its behalf didn’t create them to be icy as a direct parallel, maybe in the sequence of events the Great Other used ice magic simply to keep his corpse army from rotting and R’hllor became a fire based god in response. Idk I haven’t done a reread in a while I might be contradicting some important canon information but it feels right
