Update on my shelves! I was running out of space on my 3 bookcases, so I bought another Billy this week and added a fourth unit. Really happy with how this looks and how things are spaced out
The bottom two shelves on the left are most of my tbr books

A library scenario:
You have checked out things that are due on Friday, December 24th. Your library is closed that day due Christmas eve, and will not be open again until Monday the 27th.
You return the things on the 24th anyway.
Because my local library does that and I'm not sure how normal that is.
Same thing if you return things after they close on the day the books are due, or if you return them on time but they are closed that day for whatever reason, like weather or a power outage.
The library I actually like (good people, good selection, much more accessible, etc) that's about an hour drive to get to, does not do that kind of thing. (They do still have late fees, i think, but if your items are there when they open next, you don't get charged.)

the infuriating thing is that there is genuinely so much good queer literature out there, contemporary and not, but there is also a sizeable chunk of readers who think that a book only "counts" as good queer literature if it's a) unproblematic, b) contains romance as its central focus, and c) has the characters state their orientation and/or gender identity directly to the audience using socially acceptable 21st-century terms (as opposed to resorting to cowardly tactics such as Subtext and Themes)

Everytime I read Frankenstein, the same line makes me put the book down and stare at the wall. Itās my favorite line in the book; it has its own highlighter color in my annotations. The first time I read it, I literally detoured after my last class just to tell my lit teacher how much I liked the line because I couldnāt wait until second period the next day. Hereās the line:
āLife, although it may only be an accumulation of anguish, is dear to me, and I will defend it.ā
This is said by the creature. He wanted to live. He wanted to live life so badly even though he had had such a difficult one. He still loved the song of the birds and the smell of the flowers and the joy in the world even if he never got to truly experience that joy. I just. AHHHH.
He wanted to fight for a life he never got to live.

Spin this wheel first and then this wheel second to generate the title of a YA fantasy novel!
(If the second wheel lands on an option ending with a plus sign, spin it again)

anyways take heat waves seriously. heat strokes and heat exhaustion are real. drink water. wear sunscreen. stay covered or in shaded areas if you can. pay attention to your skin - if itās super flushed and your face is redder than usual, get under some shade and cool down IMMEDIATELY. pay attention to kids and elders too.

i'm not saying people shouldn't be reading more books, but i do think it's funny how many people thinking "reading comprehension" is just about how good you are at reading books and not like. criticial thinking skills.

And speaking of pronouns, flat-out my favorite part of the LOTR Appendices is when itās revealed that the Gondorian dialect of the Common Speech differentiates between formal and informal second-person pronouns but the distinctionās been lost in the Hobbitās dialect, so Pippinās blithely been using familiar terms of address with the Lord of the City, and thus helps to explain both why the Gondorians are so ready to assume heās a prince and why Denethor finds him so amusing to have around.
