I hit 10k words on my new fic and every fiber of my being wants to publish it, but since I am terrible at completing any task, I’m forcing myself to wait until it’s 75% of the way done.

Which means it’ll probably be in the 70k range send prayers

Also not to be the old man yelling at clouds meme but I hate AI so much that if Netflix DOES end up sneaking AI ads into shows I’ll just go back to my damn DVDs. I’m neurodivergent enough to happily watch the same 20 movies and box sets of 90’s sitcoms on repeat.

But seriously, there are few people I have met in real life who actually like AI, even fewer who said AI has improved their lives. I decided to waste an afternoon “talking” to the AI Chatbot on Snapchat, and I was so mean to it that it asked me to stop. And all I asked was how the hell I was expected to reply when it said “AI hasn’t taken over everything yet, so we just have to think positively!” Yet? Be so fucking for real right now.

AI is lazy. AI is stolen intellectual property that is converted into 1’s and 0’s before spitting out uncanny valley art with too many fingers, and answering questions with less veracity than a Wikipedia page on a recently deceased celebrity.

I hate it because it encourages people to stop thinking for themselves, and we already have a lack of critical thinking skills to begin with. It’s encroaching into our day to day lives and that is terrifying because I can’t find a way to remove it. Google, Snapchat, Instagram. All of them have introduced ai in some way and I hate it.

I’m not saying we need to go back to the Stone Age, but there is something creepy about reading something from a machine that is trying to emulate a human spark, but simply cannot recreate it. There’s something missing that a machine simply cannot copy, and I don’t know why we are forcing it so hard to try

I'm not sure fandom babies understand how much info they generally get on fics on AO3. Especially the ones who complain about certain kinds of content. TIME WAS YOU COULD NEVER KNOW IF THERE WOULD BE SHIT YOU DIDN'T LIKE IN FICS.

That provides... essentially no info on what's actually in the fic, y'know? It's 6 chapters and appears to mostly be about Frodo and Pippin, and it's rated G, but other than that, take a risk, right?

This was actually an extremely in-depth fic header at the time. There were a lot of people who didn't bother adding notes, word counts, or even characters of focus. "Warnings" was an optional entry, and I only bothered adding it bc the fic had significant spoilers for an episode that had aired recently. There are other things I'd tag on it now, but those weren't "tagged" at the time by most people.

And some of y'all bitch that AO3 allows thoroughly-tagged content that you can easily avoid and not accidentally read, and if you accidentally read it bc it's not tagged, you can REPORT it????

Nah. Fuck that and fuck you. AO3 should not censor content posted to it, but I have not seen a fic in YEARS that doesn't have more info about the content of a 100 word drabble than I would've ever given for a 4k word fic back in the day. Not because I specifically had bad habits, but because WE DID NOT PROVIDE THAT INFO AT THAT TIME.

Sorry just. I saw something earlier today being critical of AO3 and just. Y'all don't understand how good you have it. You really really don't. And on the one hand I'm glad that you always had this quality of tagging, but on the other fuck you for acting like it's not fabulously thorough for asking if there's common triggers in it.
