I've been resource gathering for YEARS so now I am going to share my dragons hoard

Floorplanner. Design and furnish a house for you to use for having a consistent background in your comic or anything! Free, you need an account, easy to use, and you can save multiple houses.

Comparing Heights. Input the heights of characters to see what the different is between them. Great for keeping consistency. Free.

Magma. Draw online with friends in real time. Great for practice or hanging out. Free, paid plan available, account preferred.

Smithsonian Open Access. Loads of free images. Free.

SketchDaily. Lots of pose references, massive library, is set on a timer so you can practice quick figure drawing. Free.

SculptGL. A sculpting tool which I am yet to master, but you should be able to make whatever 3d object you like with it. free.

Pexels. Free stock images. And the search engine is actually pretty good at pulling up what you want.

Figurosity. Great pose references, diverse body types, lots of "how to draw" videos directly on the site, the models are 3d and you can rotate the angle, but you can't make custom poses or edit body proportions. Free, account option, paid plans available.

Line of Action. More drawing references, this one also has a focus on expressions, hands/feet, animals, landscapes. Free.

Animal Photo. You pose a 3d skull model and select an animal species, and they give you a bunch of photo references for that animal at that angle. Super handy. Free.

Height Weight Chart. You ever see an OC listed as having a certain weight but then they look Wildly different than the number suggests? Well here's a site to avoid that! It shows real people at different weights and heights to give you a better idea of what these abstract numbers all look like. Free to use.

Indie Game Spotlight: Turovero

We’re back with another Indie Game Spotlight! This week we’re taking a look at Turovero, a traditional JRPG with a dark story and psychological themes. Four archetypal RPG heroes ascend the celestial tower Turovero in order to defeat an ancient evil known as the Dark One. But not everything is as it seems, and the group must uncover the twisted truths, hidden within the tower, about their world…and themselves. Oooooh!

We spoke with Queenie, the lead developer, writer, designer and composer for the game, who basically did about 80% of it on their own—assisted by a team of talented artists (all on Tumblr by the way: @genkaiko, @caffeineandcarpaltunnel, @pleasedrawmore, and @meakersneakers) who provided the major art assets.

What inspired the story and characters in the game?

I’ve always had a thing for games that start normally enough but then take a dark and twisted turn (my first game, Prom Dreams: A High School Love Story, was also kind of like that). I also love JRPGs and adventure games, as well as the storytelling inherent in a lot of RPG Maker horror games, such as Ib, the Strange Men series, etc. So, essentially, I decided to combine all of those things into one game, and thus, Turovero was born!

How long have you been working on Turovero?

In total, the actual development process took around 2 and a half years. You’d think I’d learn after the 16 months my first game took to complete…

How did you choose the style for the game?  

Two factors: first, how can I get these characters as anime and JRPG-ish as possible, and second, how can I make it using the RPG Maker sprites and resources I have, along with my admittedly limited spriting abilities? I will admit that the final “look” of everything did require a bit of trial and error.

Are there any funny or unique stories to how you created a certain character?

I must confess that the knight character, Sigurd, was designed with one thing in mind: whatever I personally found attractive in fictional guys, LMAO. He’s an amalgamation of every video game boy I ever had a crush on. Sorry, not sorry. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

What genre of game would you like to make next?

I’d like to keep making dark, horror-themed games. As for gameplay type, I’m actually considering doing a visual novel at some point, in addition to RPG/Adventure games.

Which game completely changes its plot when you change one letter in its title?

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Tim. Please give Tim his ocarina back. It’s special to him :(

Turovero: The Celestial Tower Version 1.0 is now available!

Turovero: The Celestial Tower is freeware, dark fantasy role-playing game created with RPG Maker VX Ace.

Players will take on the role of four young adventurers - Sigurd, a brave and kind-hearted knight, Leilia, a gentle and motherly cleric, Edric, a gifted yet sharp-tongued mage, and Ruby, a cheeky, fun-loving thief - who have no recollection of their lives prior to meeting one another. Determined to free their world from the influence of an ancient evil, the Dark One, the group sets forth on their most perilous journey yet as they climb the mysterious divine tower, Turovero.

However, as the heroes ascend the Celestial Tower, they begin to realize that not everything is as it seems. Just what is the Dark One that plagues their world so, and what truly happened to the Four Gods of legend? The answers to these questions lie in wait for them at the top of the tower… but do they truly want to discover them?

Turovero: The Celestial Tower features:

A marriage of some of the best elements of RPG Maker games: the dungeon-crawler gameplay and aesthetic of old-school JRPGs with the mystery, intrigue, and macabre elements of the RPG Horror genre.

Hi! I just wanted to say that I first saw your popular Zelda comic when it was posted 5 years ago and instantly fell in love with it. I would go back and reread/listen to it all the time and it even helped me through one of the darkest periods of my life. Eventually I lost track of it and just assumed I'd never see it again but I finally found it for the first time since then and started crying because it means so much to me now. I'm working on commission work now while there's a bit of downtime from my freelance gig, so here's a little Zelda warmup I happened to like.

I'm slowly training myself to not feel guilty about drawing fanart/self-indulgent things every once in a while instead of sticking strictly to work or studies. 

It's a steep uphill climb.

You're "King" LOZ post is amazing. I love that song and the fact that it was put into LOZ context was like...wow! And the art is so emotional and listening and looking at the same time is like heartbreaking you know? Like if I see this on my dash when other people are around I have to skip it because I'M A BIG BABY AND I CRY BECAUSE IT'S SO PRETTY AND SO SAD AND AAAHHH!! ANyways it's wonderful and I love it.
