SUMMARY: SATURDAY - SUNDAY WEEK 3
Caitlin’s cousins in Dublin contacted her as a courtesy to let her know they’re planning to sell the Wandering Rocks Pub. After half a day thinking this over, upset, she asked them if they would be willing to keep it if she was there running it. They agreed. Caitlin couldn’t bear giving up the chance to return home and possibly at least get proper closure, so she gave notice at the Admiral’s Arms, said goodbye to Katherine, and got a flight back to Ireland Sunday Evening.

There was no way to make the other world sound particularly good, even if she somehow had incentive. It didn’t have many qualities left. Caitlin felt kind of bad about bringing the mood down, now, but chuckled quietly at Harry’s bluntness. “Don’t mind at all. Uh, 6 years. There abouts. It was one of those didn’t think you’d ever come back situations, and then-- fell into a portal. Don’t suppose you’d know how the Fortis plan of closing those is going?” She asked suddenly. “I got word of it, couple months ago, then....nothing. Can’t imagine that’s an easy job.”

Having rolled himself into the lift, Harry listened carefully and took in everything the woman was saying. He was still desperately trying to get his head around the idea of a whole other universe somewhere close enough to this one to travel to. And somewhere so similar to their own world, but worse in so many ways. As the elevator rattled, Harry sat quietly, not really sure what he was supposed to say. “Wow, that uh, it sounds - well if you don’t mind me saying is sounds bloody awful.” He said with a small, sympathetic smile. “How long were you there?”

Caitlin had spent the last fifteen minutes fussing with the fickle stereo. She’d gotten it fixed, but she wasn’t sure if it was the combination of button pressing, wire removing and returning, or kicking that worked. Whatever the case, she was just back behind the bar when Porter walked in and returned his smile with one of her own. “Evening; haven’t seen you in a while, Porter.”
“I’m alright; and you?" She gestured behind her. “Drink? No charge,” she offered easily. They’d first met when Caitlin was doing the rounds with every bar that had a Looking To Hire ad. Though they didn’t know each other long, he was a friendly face, and she was glad to see him.

Part of running the pub, Porter found, was keeping up with what everyone else was doing. If some other bar down the street had something figured out that was going to attract more customers, then Porter wanted to know about it. But it wasn’t in a hostile, gotta-be-the-best way - in fact, Po already knew and was friends with most of the near-by owners.
So when he strolled into The Admiral’s Arms, he smiled brightly and walked straight to the bar, waving at a familiar face behind the bar. “Good evening Miss Mahony, how’re we today?”

She was saved just a moment when the elevator doors opened and the greatest difficulty was deciding on a floor to click. But Caitlin relaxed from Harry’s many apologies. “It’s alright, I’d be curious myself,” she smiled. Her face turned pensive a minute as she stared off, recalling it. “Long and short of it is the quiet. All the world felt closer and emptier, if you can imagine that. Communities felt more tight but most of us were independent; all the loss couldn’t help bring that on. There wasn’t much taking for granted attitudes left, either.”
Caitlin stuffed her hands in her pockets and shrugged as she refocused. “Ireland continued as Ireland but the UN was in nearly everything, too. It was everywhere far as I know. That might be the most interesting for ya,” she offered, realizing she’d been talking of mostly feelings and not facts, as he’d probably be more interested in.

Harry saw the woman’s hesitation, and knew then that he should back off. He didn’t want to make her uncomfortable, no matter how great his curiosity was… but… maybe just one question. “Okay, sorry, just, I mean, well, what was it like, really? The culture and things like that?” He asked, eyes wide as he waited for an answer, suddenly looking at his hands a little awkwardly. “Sorry, I uh, I know you probably wouldn’t want to talk about it, it’s just so fascinating, you know?”

“Nice to meet you, nevermind the circumstances. Bonding through frustration and all that,” she commented with a smile. Caitlin shrugged. “Suppose we do, don’t we?" Her interests were wrapped in the here and now, with Fortis and Katherine and Peter, but she was well aware of the significance of everything happening.
“Agreed,” she said with a wry look. “But I’m afraid that requires more effort than the hateful judgment and destruction.” She turned her head at the yell from the owner in the back. Caitlin smiled at Maxine. “You ever need another ear, I’m happy to oblige. But in the meantime consider the drink on the house,” she nodded and then headed back to see what the fuss was about.

“Amen,” Maxine said, sighing deep, and forcing herself away from the television to give her attention to Caitlin. She couldn’t be entirely sure if it were out of pity or obligation or the slim chance of genuine interest that the other woman was listening to her. “I’m Maxine.” She replied.
She shrugged, “I don’t blame you for not followin’ us. Were I not born and raised here, I’d probably be just as content to let the news go in one ear and out the other,” She admitted. “But we’re here and may as well pay Big Brother some mind.” She conceded.
“But it’s always nice to hear, that you don’t hate them. I wish more people would go ahead and breathe and think this all through.”

At the angry look turned her way, Caitlin only lowered her brows. She wasn’t entirely put off by it given that it clearly wasn’t meant for her. That it was meant for Peter, though, only kept her brows low in confusion. “That...does not sound like Peter,” she commented quietly, almost as if to herself. She tried to think of something careful to say to Claire, but came up empty.
Clearly the other would know more about this situation than her, but Caitlin knew what Peter confided in her, at least. And she wanted to understand before she stepped into his potentially volatile office. “Whatever’s happened... Peter’s been fiercely stressed a while now. I’m not defending the man. Simply saying perhaps another punch isn’t the most productive of ways,” she said.
Sliding Doors || Claire & Caitlin || V8 W3 || Late Monday Morning
Claire still wanted to punch Peter in the face. Again. The first time just wasn’t satisfying enough for her and he was still being a jerk. Maybe, if she were lucky, Henry would have a comment on all this. He always seemed to have something to say on whatever she told him. “Yeah?” Claire turned and glared at her, though the anger wasn’t directed at Caitlin, she was just fuming.
“Well that’s because Peter decided it was a good idea to fire my dad, his freaking vice president, just because Peter basically had a temper tantrum.” She rolled her eyes and gave another angry huff. “He’s being such an ass and might go back into his office later to punch him in the face again. One time just wasn’t enough.”

Caitlin bit her lip. She’d accidentally peaked his interest now, hadn’t she? She found herself smirking at the last question. “You likely qualify in the need-to-know area if you’re Fortis, I think. Though can’t say I was given a pep talk about staying quiet,” she added. That had been a given. She smiled at Harry as they waited on the elevator, stuffing her hands in her pockets. “Ask anything you want and I’ll try to answer well enough.”
Labyrinth || Harry & Caitlin || V8 W2 || Thursday Afternoon
“Oh. Oh!” Harry pressed the button for the elevator and looked up at the woman with a surprised expression. He’d heard so much about the other side form a number of sources, but now he was actually talking to someone who had experienced it first hand. “Oh wow, that’s… I mean, can I ask what it was like?” Hal wheeled himself back a little so he could see her properly. “or i it one of those need-to-know type things?”

Caitlin smirked in laughter, then stuffed her hands in her pockets. “That does sound the more comfortable option. I am going to find that dress but with that open offer I’m returning to appraise your shoe. Afraid mine are runners or boots. I do have some of a jewelry and scarf collection I can offer you,” she rolled her shoulders with a smile.
A glance at the clock and she headed back to her room. “Give me ten and I can be ready,” she called back.

Fetch Back The Time || Peter & Caitlin || V8 W2 || Late Sunday Morning
[TEXT: Hey there! Are you free soon for that coffee?]
Caitlin lingered on her phone a moment after sending the text before setting it aside. In an uncharacteristic moment, she’d had no problem sleeping in this morning, so she had done just that. Her coffee date with Peter hadn’t been far from her mind once she’d woken up, though. Even if she had to keep reminding herself that ‘date’ was not the proper word. She distracted herself by transplanting the fern she’d bought into a pot, frowning occasionally at the negative news channel running on the TV.

“Okay,” Caitlin responded with a smile over her shoulder. She knew she made Katherine uncomfortable with the question and felt bad about that. But she hoped that by acting casually about it, Katherine would be more at ease. “Well, I know we haven’t talked much over it before,” she began.
“But I went and talked to Peter. After Wednesday.” Caitlin let that sit a minute as she washed the bowl and then rinsed it. They’d only talked the basics of her knowing Peter from before. She had yet to share her Sunday plans with Katherine. Was that wrong? Even she wasn’t sure why she hadn’t.
Turning the water off, she turned around as she dried her hands. “The explosion was naturally the topic before Peter brought up the other world and it put my mind on something.... Do you remember who was big over here, in the other world? Of the politicians. My remembering the European names isn’t much applicable.”

“Really? Sounds like loads of fun, all the abilities you can study now,” she said, considering it. Of course, her actual knowledge stopped at the basics. But she could appreciate its importance. She smiled wryly at Harry. “Found myself testing for the Shanti virus after trapped on the other side of a portal for a time. As it is, I know some friends here from before,” she explained with a shrug.
Labyrinth || Harry & Caitlin || V8 W2 || Thursday Afternoon
“Nice to meet you Caitlin.” Harry gave her a smile before heading back towards the lift. His brows lowered slightly as she spoke. He would probably have known her if she worked in the building, but as far as he knew, she was a stranger to him, so why would she have been visiting so much? “I’m a geneticist, studying abilities, that kind of thing.” A fairly standard answer, but logic told him that going into details with someone he didn’t know probably wasn’t a smart idea. “What’s brought you around so often then?”
