This is one of the sweetest one shots I've read! 😭. Thank you @sjsmith56 for writing it! I've read it a few times it's so sweet. 💜
It’s Been a Long, Long Time
Summary: A recurring nightmare of a woman who died in Bucky’s arms during the war keeps waking him up. Sam does some research to help his friend figure out what the dream means.
Length: 3.5K
Characters: Bucky Barnes, two named female original characters, Sam Wilson, Steve Rogers, Tony Stark
Warnings: traumatic death of a character, angst (Bucky’s)
Author’s notes: This one-shot is inspired by a cheesy 80’s movie, called Made in Heaven, basically true love will find a way even if death occurs. Although it starts with a sudden death it ends in the fluffiest way. The song title, used as the one shot title, is associated with Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter at the end of Avengers Endgame. Because this is set in an AU where Steve stayed in the future I have used it for Bucky. The song was written in 1945 by Jule Steyne and Sammy Kahn.
🎶
It was Christmas, 1944 and the Howling Commandos were in London, England on a well-deserved break. He was at a dance, drinking and watching the couples dancing. The few single women there were in high demand, and he just didn’t feel up to cutting in on the lucky guys who had a dancing partner. Then she walked in, wearing a blue dress and a smile. Her presence was like feeling a warm spring breeze caress your face.
“May I have this dance?”
That’s all he had to say for her to turn that smile towards him, place her hand in his and let him lead her around the dance floor. When another soldier came to cut in she looked at the guy with surprise.
“I’m dancing with my fiancé,” came the words straight from her mouth in this lovely British accent. When the man murmured his apologies and left she looked up at Bucky. “You don’t mind being my fiancé tonight, do you?”
“Not one bit,” he said, totally taken by her vivaciousness.
They danced until the band called it quits then headed out into the night to catch a bus to her flat. Just a few months previous the blackout conditions had been relaxed allowing for the use of lighting levels at the equivalent of a moonlit night. It was still dark, however, and pedestrians were warned to be on their guard while crossing the roads. As they walked, the last bus suddenly drove past them and they realized they would have to walk the full distance. Bucky kept an eye and ear out while he and Miss Sabrina Cooper strolled, holding hands as they shared their lives. When they arrived at the door of her building she looked up at the handsome American soldier.
“I share a bedroom with my sister so I can’t ask you in,” she said apologetically. “Would you meet me here tomorrow morning? She’s going to Bath with her fellow for the weekend. We can spend the day together and you can stay the night.”
“Only if you’re sure,” replied Bucky. “I wouldn’t want you to get a bad reputation.”
She laughed and he felt the effect of it down to his core. He was hers and would be there in the morning with bells on, as the saying went. When they kissed goodnight it was like tasting the best dessert that Bucky’s ma ever made, it was so sweet and tasty that he couldn’t get enough of it. As Sabrina watched from the step Bucky crossed the road to find his way back to his billet. He had only gone a few yards when he heard her call his name then run into the street towards him for one last kiss. To his horror a lorry appeared out of nowhere and struck her down right in front of him. Just like that, she was gone, dying in his arms. Then a man’s voice from the dark told him he had so many days to stop it from happening again.
Lately Bucky had been experiencing the same dream. For the past ten nights he had relived this memory from his past, and it was driving him crazy as it seemed to be a countdown. The first night the voice told him he had 30 days. Now on this most recent experience it was down to 20 days, and he still didn’t know why this was happening or what he was supposed to do. Seeing it was well after 2am, he got up and came out to the kitchen in Stark Tower then pulled open the fridge, looking for something to eat.
“Again?” said Sam’s voice as he entered the space. “How many nights is that?”
“Ten,” stated Bucky. “What are you doing up?”
“Had a date,” explained the other man. “Told me she wanted to stay friends.”
“Ouch,” said the super soldier, pulling out some leftover Chinese food. “Want some?”
Sam nodded his consent and Bucky divided it up between the two plates, heating up Sam’s first before heating his own. He pulled out a beer for each of them. The two men sat next to each other as they ate the leftovers. After several minutes Sam took a drink of beer and looked over at Bucky.
“What do you think it means?” he asked.
“I don’t know,” replied Bucky. “I mean, it really happened, right? She was hit by the truck and I know she died because she died in my arms. I couldn’t get to her in time. As for the significance of it, it’s beyond me. It’s not even happening at the same time of year or the same city. Why now?”
“Maybe something like it is going to happen again and it’s a precognition thing,” said Sam. “Maybe you’ll save someone’s life for real this time.”
Bucky smirked. “Sure, that’s got to be it.”
He shook his head, still irritated at experiencing that real life nightmare over and over again. When he finished eating Sam was only half done so Bucky put his dishes in the dishwasher and said goodnight to his fellow Avenger. Sam finished a few minutes later and put his dishes away then leaned back.
“Friday, can you start a search for me, my eyes only?” he asked.
“Certainly, Mr. Wilson,” said the female voice. “What would you like to know?”
“Check newspaper databases for London, England during the month of December 1944,” said Sam. “You’re looking for the pedestrian death of a young woman, age unknown, name Sabrina Cooper. She was hit by a truck. There may be an American soldier who witnessed the accident.”
“Is it possible the pedestrian survived the accident?” asked Friday. “That would increase the possibilities of an accurate result.”
“Sure, add that to the mix,” said Sam. “Any results can wait until I wake up tomorrow. Goodnight, Friday.”
“Goodnight, Mr. Wilson. Sweet dreams.”
He slept in the next morning, not waking up until after 10 am. After a quick shower he came out to the kitchen, finding no one there. Making himself a coffee he was just about to sip it when Friday interrupted his actions.
“Mr. Wilson, I have results of the search you assigned me this morning,” said the friendly female voice.
“Already?” exclaimed Sam. “Let me hear them.”
“Sabrina Cooper was struck down by a lorry in the Chelsea area of London, early in the morning of Saturday, December 23, 1944. An unidentified American soldier, a Sergeant in the army, witnessed the accident. She died in his arms.”
“Hmmm,” said Sam, thoughtfully. “There’s nothing else?”
“That is correct,” replied the AI.
Back to square one.
An hour later, the two men, along with Steve Rogers headed out for a run through Central Park. When they stopped for a break, more for Sam’s sake, they all sprawled on their backs in the grass. Bucky sat up first and looked around at the people walking nearby. Something caught his eye and he stood up.
“Buck?” asked Steve, looking in the direction that his friend was looking. “What is it? Trouble?”
“No,” replied Bucky, sitting down again. “Just saw something familiar for a moment. A woman in a blue dress but I don’t see her now.” He looked at Sam. “Don’t say it. She didn’t look anything like her.”
“Ah, the woman from your memories who you’ve been dreaming about,” said Steve. “That’s ten nights now. You never talked about her when you got back from your leave. None of us knew what had happened.”
“I only knew her for a few hours,” said Bucky. “Then she was gone. Wasn’t much to tell.”
“It must have bothered you,” replied Steve.
“It did,” said Bucky. “She lived with her sister who was going to Bath for the weekend with her fellow. Sabrina asked me to come back in the morning and stay the weekend.” He smiled. “I would have spent a lifetime with her.”
“You did,” said Sam. “It was her lifetime.”
Bucky couldn’t disagree with his friend’s apt observation. When they returned to the compound Sam retreated to his room.
“Friday, could you do another search related to the search I requested earlier?” It answered in the affirmative. “Sabrina Cooper had a sister, first name unknown, living at the same address. She planned to go to Bath with a male friend that day. Is she still alive?”
“I will perform the search with the new parameters,” said Friday. “Shall I extend the search to any descendants?”
“Yes, please,” responded Sam.
He showered, changed and headed out to the kitchen area where several people were cooperating on preparing a meal. Sam offered to help but was told everything was in hand. When the meal was ready he took his share, sitting at the large table where others were reading a newspaper, or browsing on their tablets while they ate.
“Mr. Wilson,” said Friday. “I have a result on your search. Would you like me to share them here or in your room?”
“Here is fine,” said Sam.
“The name of the sister was Deidre Cooper. She was engaged to Flight Lieutenant Wallis Overton, a pilot with the Royal Canadian Air Force. The couple married in 1945 and she immigrated to Canada with her husband at that time. They had three children. Their youngest son, John Overton, born in 1952, married Teresa Fielder. Their oldest daughter, Marianne London was born in 1973, and is currently a resident of New York City.”
“That’s it?” asked Sam, as Bucky looked strangely at him.
“No, Marianne is a widow, and lives in the Chelsea neighbourhood of New York with her daughter, Sabrina London, born December 23, 1994.”
Sam looked at Bucky. “I played a hunch,” he said. “Maybe you’re meant to save someone who was connected to Sabrina Cooper in some way. She was born on the same day 50 years after your Sabrina died. You’re welcome.”
Steve grinned as the others asked who Sabrina Cooper was. Bucky left the explanations for Sam and Steve while he acquired Sabrina London’s address and workplace. He planned to go the next day to begin his surveillance of her but that night they got the call for another mission that took most of them out of town for 2 ½ weeks. While he was away the dream continued with the countdown marching it’s way to the end. With 2 nights left the team returned to the compound and no one was surprised to see Bucky run to his room, shower, change and leave.
“Should we provide backup?” asked Sam. “To be honest, I kind of want to see this through.”
“I agree,” said Steve. He looked around at the others. “Anyone else want in on this mission?”
〰️
Bucky was already in the Chelsea neighbourhood of New York when the rest of the team decided to get in on the action. He found the address soon enough and set himself up to watch until someone came out of the main door of the apartment building. It was the doorman and Bucky realized that he might not have much luck with the residence so he sought out Sabrina London’s workplace, a record store that carried 78s, LPs, and CDs. When he stepped inside he smiled at the sound of Duke Ellington playing.
“Hiya!” said a cheerful voice and he looked to where it came from.
Suddenly, he was back on the dance floor in London as he saw Sabrina’s Cooper’s double behind the cash register, wearing a blue dress and a smile.
“Hi,” he replied. “Nice store.”
“Thanks,” she said. “I grew up listening to a lot of different genres and after I got my degree in musicology I decided to open my own place and bring music to the masses. There’s nothing wrong with digital music but there’s nothing like listening to the older stuff on vinyl, you know?”
“I agree,” smiled Bucky. “You carry any Benny Goodman or Harry James?”
“1940s fan, huh?” she said, then she looked at him again. “Have we met before?”
“Maybe in another life,” joked Bucky. “I’m Bucky, Bucky Barnes.”
“No shit, sorry,” she blushed. “I have a potty mouth sometimes. You really are him so the 1940s thing is for real. You must have seen some of those artists live.”
“I did,” said Bucky, stepping closer to the counter. “Billie Holliday, Benny Goodman, Cab Calloway, Count Basie, Lena Horne … I saw them in the clubs. The best way, in my opinion.”
She leaned forward, cradling her chin on her hand as he spoke. “Wow! I’m so jealous,” she replied. “I would have loved to have seen those people perform live.” She stuck her hand out. “Sabrina London. Owner, manager, soon to be ex-owner, ex-manager.”
“Why?” asked Bucky, watching her intently.
“Even though I’m in the middle of New York City I don’t really get enough business to make a profit. I’m barely keeping my head above water. Add in a jerk of a building owner who doesn’t seem to understand that you have to maintain these older buildings so that plumbing leaks don’t damage one’s inventory … sorry, I’m venting.”
“You need someone to invest in you,” said Bucky. “Your business, I mean. Maybe buy the building and restore it to something iconic. I’m pretty sure this was a high end retail store back in the 1940s. There has to be marble columns behind the drywall and hardwood floors beneath this sheet linoleum.”
“I wish,” she smiled. “You don’t think Tony Stark would be interested, do you?”
“If he doesn’t I might know a guy or two,” said Bucky. The sound of the door opening made them both look and he grinned as Sam and Steve walked in. “Hey, may I present Sabrina London, owner of this establishment. Sabrina, Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson.”
Steve looked all around, hearing the music. “We should be coming here to look for our music, Miss London. This place has character.”
“Just not enough business,” she said, “but go ahead and have a look. I can talk music all day.”
“Motown?” asked Sam.
She gestured towards the wall and he went over, beginning to flip through the selection. The door opened again and Tony Stark walked in, looking all around then seeing the young woman.
“Is this her?” he asked.
Sabrina looked at him, puzzled. “What do you mean by Is this her?” she asked, looking between Bucky and Tony. “Have you been watching me?”
“No, nothing creepy,” said Tony, to Bucky’s glare. “You might as well tell her. You got any AC/DC or Metallica in here?”
She gestured to another wall then looked at Bucky for an explanation. His face turned pink then he took a deep breath.
“Are you named after Sabrina Cooper?” he asked. “She was the sister of your great-grandmother Deidre Cooper.”
“How do you know that?” she asked, a crease appearing between her eyes as she frowned slightly. “It’s a family thing.”
“Because I’m a genius and I invented a very sophisticated AI that can search almost anything,” said Tony loudly from the heavy metal section, three LPs already in his arms.
Steve looked sympathetically at Bucky. “You might as well tell her the truth,” he said. “I’m going to look for some albums.”
Bucky ran his hand through his hair. “It’s just that I met Sabrina Cooper on December 22, 1944 at a dance in London. We connected and I walked her home to her flat in Chelsea. She told me her sister was going to Bath for the weekend with her guy and wanted me to spend the next couple of days with her. I was charmed by her and agreed. She ran across the road to kiss me one more time.”
“You were the soldier,” interrupted Sabrina. “She died in your arms.”
Bucky nodded. “For the past 27 days I’ve relived that night over and over, and the only thing that changes is at the end a voice says that I have so many days to prevent it from happening again. It’s been counting down from 30 days. Sam got the idea that maybe I was meant to save someone with a connection to Sabrina, and Tony’s AI came up with your name. You were born exactly 50 years after the date that Sabrina Cooper died, and your great grandmother was her sister. You live in Chelsea here in New York and your last name is London. It seemed to make sense at the time. We can leave if this bothers you.”
“You think something bad is going to happen to me?” she asked. “You came here hoping to prevent that?”
Bucky stuck his hands in his jacket pockets and shrugged. “Sounds crazy, I know.”
“It does sound crazy,” said Sabrina. “But what if I told you that for the past 27 days I’ve had a dream of a young WWII soldier, dancing with me to Bing Crosby’s version of It’s Been a Long, Long Time which is weird because it came out in October, 1945 at the same time as the Harry James version, but this dance that we’re at was just before Christmas, 1944. In this dream I distinctly remember saying to a guy who wanted to cut in that I was dancing with my fiancé. At the end of my dream a woman’s voice says I have so many days to find this soldier. It’s been counting down from 30 and reached the number 3 last night.”
The others had come over as Sabrina related her dream, looking back and forth from her to Bucky. He just looked at her, then leaned across the counter and kissed her for several moments before stepping back.
“Then I would say we found each other again, Sabrina,” he said. “We get to start over again, if you want.”
“It took us long enough, didn’t it?” she smiled. She looked at Tony. “Could you buy this building and fix it to its original glory? I’m a great tenant and you’d be helping a small business owner in the heart of New York City.”
“Sabrina Fair, it would be my delight to help a small business owner with the treasures that you have here,” he said, grinning like a schoolboy.
Six months later
Sabrina London looked up at the door as it opened to the arrival of her fiancé, the Avenger Bucky Barnes. A skiff of snow flew in as he entered. The place was full of people shopping for the perfect Christmas present and he stepped around the lineup of people at the register.
“You’re back!” she said, coming out from behind the marble topped counter as her assistant beamed.
“Wasn’t going to miss this weekend,” said Bucky, looking at his watch before kissing Sabrina. “It’s not everyday that I get married. Everything’s ready according to the wedding planner. All we have to do is say the words and we’ll be husband and wife.” He looked up and nodded to the assistant, Jenny. “You ready to let your boss go for the next two weeks?”
“Absolutely,” she said. “Go, get out of here.”
Sabrina went into the back, got her coat and purse, then pulled her boots on. Bucky helped her into her coat, making sure her scarf was covering her neck, then with a wave he opened the door again and followed his fiancée out the door. A limousine, courtesy of Tony Stark, was waiting for them and Bucky opened the door for her, before sitting inside. Nodding at the driver the couple sat back and Bucky put his arm around her shoulders.
“We have to make one more stop,” he said. “I need to practice something.”
“What?” asked Sabrina. “You said yourself everything is ready.”
“I know, but this is for me,” said Bucky. “Indulge me.”
It didn’t take long before the limousine stopped at the Rink at Rockefeller Center. The giant Christmas tree was lit up and the rink was full of skaters.
“We’re not going skating,” said Sabrina. “I don’t know how.”
“No, we’re not,” said Bucky, “but we do need to get on the ice.”
Making their way through the crowd they stepped onto the ice near the tree, where a large rubber mat had been placed. When they reached the mat the music playing for the crowd stopped and a song came on, sung by Bing Crosby.
Kiss me once, then kiss me twice
Then kiss me once again
It’s been a long, long time
A photographer took several pictures of them as the snowflakes fell and Bucky smiled at Sabrina.
“They wanted a picture and I wanted to practice our first dance,” he said. “How much more romantic is it than being under the falling snow in front of the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center? I’m so glad I found you Sabrina Fair.”
She laughed, as much at the situation as at the nickname that Tony gave her.
“I’m so glad you found me, my handsome soldier,” she replied.
The couple danced closely together on the rink in the heart of New York City, continuing the romance that began 80 years before in London during blackout conditions of a world war. It had been a long, long time but they were together now and they thanked whatever forces brought them back together, as they should have been from the start.

Mob J.B Barnes

_______________________
James Barnes was not a man you triffled with. Not if you wanted to live anyways.
He sat in his VIP box in his night club, leaning back on the couch as one of the girls he knows sucked him off. The door was locked as soon as she came in so it was just the 2 of them.
"That's it Dot. Deeper... Good girl."
The only sounds for the next few minutes were of her sucking his cock as he gave words of encouragement. A few minutes later he came down her throat.
As she went to her haunches & wiped her lips looking at him with lust in her eyes he grins at her. Tucking himself back in his pants he got up before helping her up off the floor. He gave her a peck on the cheek as he escorted her to the door.
"Remember, if you behave I'll let you cum as much as you can handle later."
Giggling, she winks at him.
"Or, I'll misbehave to draw it out."
Chuckling he pats her on the ass.
As soon as she's gone the smirk is off his face as one of his right hand men come up to him.
"John is here."
"Has he done anything yet?"
"Not yet. He seems to be on his best behavior."
"Keep an eye on him. If he tries anything you know where to take him."
"You got it boss."
"Thanks Sam."
Pouring himself a drink he goes over to the railing to look over the crowd & to see if he can spot John.
A couple of minutes later of watching the dance floor a woman catches his eye.
She wore a royal blue velvet flapper style dress that ended mid-thigh with no sleeves.
He was unsure of her hair color as the lights kept changing. He watched as she danced with her friends. He didn't realize he was smiling as he watched them dance somewhat silly. He watched them head back to their table as a familiar figure walked by it.
If he wasn't watching he probably would have missed John slipping something in one drink.
Straightening, a muscle worked in his jaw as he quickly made his way down signaling a couple of his men.
He looked at his other right hand, Steve.
"He put something in a woman's drink. You know what to do."
With a nod he went another direction while James went to the table were 3 woman sat.
"Excuse me ladies. I believe you're drinks have just been spiked."
All 3 looked horrified then 2 looked at their friend with her half full glass.
"If it's alright with you, I'll take you to a doctor I know who will help at this hour.
As she went to stand she staggered a bit.
James steadied her looking into her hazel eyes that were holding confusion & fear. Her friends also stood. The blonde eyed him suspiciously.
"We're going with you."
The other one spoke up as well.
"How do we know you didn't get someone to do it, then you swoop in like a hero?"
He grins at their protective nature.
"If you came in a car you could follow us."
The women exchange a glance before nodding.
The blonde stepped forward into his space, her gaze hard.
"If you did have a hand in this I'll gut you like a fish."
As they made their way out with his arm around her shoulders to help her walk Dot stepped in front of him with her hands on her hips.
"I thought we were leaving together Jamie?"
His jaw clenched.
"Not now Dot. This lady needs help."
Dot looks her over with disdain.
"So, get one of the guys to take her as we'll be busy." She gave him a sultry gaze.
He quirked an eyebrow as her friends were about to say something.
James looked at them. "Take your friend outside. The fresh air may help."
The blonde glared at both of them as her and her friend gently guided her outside.
Once they were out of earshot his gaze darkened as he looked at Dot who placed her hands on his chest smirking.
Not saying a word he grabbed her hands roughly while leaning closer to her.
"You EVER try to tell me what to do again it will not end pretty for you. Because you seem to forget WHO I am."
He pulled back slightly to see that she had paled at his words.
"Do I make myself clear Dot?"
All she could do is nod as he let go of her wrists.
"Good. Get the fuck out of my club. We're done for the night."
He watched with satisfaction as she scampered away. Straightening his jacket he headed outside expecting to see the 3 women there waiting. Instead he saw Steve there, and across his chest frowning at him.
"That was fast. Thought you'd last longer."
James flipped him the bird.
"Where are the ladies?"
"Clint is escorting them to the hospital as their friend seemed to be getting worse & they didn't want to wait for you to be done with your plans for the night."
His eyes blazed with anger.
"Fucking Dot stopped us at the door & tried to tell me to get one of my men take her."
Steve's eyebrows shot up towards his hairline.
"Are you fucking serious?! Who the fuck does she think she is?!"
James eyes fill with mirth, his smile cold.
"She's been getting more full of herself so she'll get a reminder of who she isn't."
Steve snorts as they head to the black SUV.
"She seems to think otherwise with how much time you've been spending with her."
"After what she did tonight by trying to order me around.... maybe it's time she takes a vacation somewhere."
Chuckling Steve pulls away from the curb.
"So, hospital or to go visit John?"
"Hospital. John can wait. Make sure all expenses are paid as it happened in my club."
The next morning she woke up to a throbbing headache while being thankful the lights were dimmed.
Turning her head slowly she saw the man from last night sitting in the chair typing on his phone.
"Hi?"
Snapping his head up he looks at her with surprise. Leaning forward he spoke softly.
"It's nice to see you awake miss Grimm. They said you'd have a headache when you woke but it should be gone before lunch."
"It feels like someone is performing a drum solo in my head."
His lips twitch as he poured her some water then helped her drink it.
"Thank you Mr.-?"
"Barnes. My club is supposed to be a spot for people to enjoy themselves. I feel responsible for what happened to you last night."
Frowning slightly she rests her head back down.
"You can't control what people do Mr. Barnes. Although I am glad you spotted it happening."
"You can call me James."
She started to feel sleepy even though she just woke up.
"You can me Zoe. It's nice to meet you James, I feel sleepy."
He smiles softly as her eyes drift shut & she quickly falls asleep.
Her saying his name made him feel warm inside for some reason.
"Enjoy your nap Zoe. Your don't have to worry about anything."

Broken Man: Angst(?)
____________________________
This is my other blog. I hope someone likes this🥺. Any mistakes are my own😁
____________________________
As an elder Steve Rogers sat on the bench after he gave Sam the shield everyone felt the air thicken.
A dark portal started opening in front of Steve, black tendrils appeared at the edge while spreading outwards.
A slender arm appeared aiming a WWII gun at him.
A female figure stepped out as the portal stayed open behind her.
She was dressed in a forties outfit. Hair done in a simple style. Looking at him she quirked an eyebrow as he looked at her in shock.
"Hello Captain America. You really shouldn't have gone back. "
He frowns slightly. "What do you mean miss? Do I know you? You look a little like Peggy."
Leaning towards him a little, she smirks.
"She was my great grandmother. Not from this time-line. You made sure of that! "
"I'm sorry, I wanted my dance."
She saw the others take a step forward.
"One more step gentlemen & you will have a mess to clean up!" Everyone froze.
Sam stepped forward hands raised.
"Can I ask who you are lady? "
Bucky spoke up as well. "And why do you have a gun pointed at him? "
"Story time! The Steve Rogers from my time-line decided not to go back as he actually thought about the children she already had with someone else." She looked at Bucky with fondness. "And he didn't want to break the promise to you about till the end of the line. He was selfless. Unlike this Steve Rogers who didn't care about his best friend! Who didn't care about the children she had from another man! HE CHANGED THE TIME-LINE FOR HIS OWN SELFISH NEEDS!! If you really cared for your Peggy you wouldn't have gone back! If you really cared for the man that she chose & the children she had with him! You wouldn't have gone back!" She wiped a stray tear away.
"So you're going to kill me? "
Giving a humorless chuckle she leaned closer to him to whisper in his ear.
"Death would be merciful for you. What I'm going to do will just crush you." She took a strep back towards the portal smirking. "Why else am I dressed like this for? I'll be seeing you soon Steve you just won't see me. "
With that she steeped through the portal & disappeared.
The others rushed forward to check on him.
He let it a loud gasp as tears filled his vision.
Sam noticed his wedding band disappear as he looked at Bucky before kneeling down in front of him.
"Steve?"
Blinking he looks at him before smiling slightly with sadness in his eyes.
" I couldn't come back Sam. No one would help me or believed me. Except Howard. Even he could only do so much. Pym refused to help. Peggy left me, accusing me of stepping out on her. I would never do that. You have to believe me."
Sam looks at him sadly.
"I believe you Cap."
Bucky swallowed hard at seeing his friend heartbroken as he placed a hand on his shoulder. "How about we go for a coffee & some apple pie?" Nodding he stood.
"Sam, can you take him to the car. I'll be right there." Bucky went to Bruce. "We need to find out what happened. Try & get a hold of Pym."
Bruce nods. "If all else fails, maybe Scott will know."
"Thanks Bruce. We'll see what Steve has to say & try to find out what that woman did exactly."
Across the lake with a Wakandan telescope in hand, a smirk on her face. She watched a broken Steve Rogers go to a car with Sam beside him. Lowering the telescope she sighs softly.
"The time-line is somewhat fixed as best as I could."
Her doppelganger stepped beside her.
"You could have gotten him to come back here from the past. Why didn't you?"
"Because this one was deserving of what he got. He only half heartedly looked for his best friend back then. Even with the knowledge he had of where he was. He still didn't put the full effort in. He could have gotten Stark to help him. It would have changed everything! But, he decided to keep putting it off & putting it off." Bucky's doppelganger stepped beside her placing a kiss on her temple while putting an arm around her shoulders.
"It's alright love. I'm with you."
"If I wasn't in love with my husband..."
She smiled at her. "There would've been a chance you and that Bucky met. But, I don't want to meddle anymore. This was my last stop before going home." She took her hand. Take care of yourself."
"I Will. You also."
Bucky chuckles.
"We will. We have a family to start."
Opening a portal they both step into it & disappear, going back to their time-line."
Taking a deep breath she looks out across the lake watching the car drive off thinking.
*Should I tell them? *
"One day. Maybe." Turning, she walks back towards her car feeling bad for Steve in a way yet at the same time she doesn't.

Two nights ago, JinAh passed away following a fight against cancer. She died in her sleep, in the arms of a loved one. She is now pain-free and at peace.
Thank you to everyone who showered our girl with warmth, love and support.

Masquerade 12
First, I do apologize for the delay. It was not my intent. Now, onward...
_____________________________
Two nights later the four of them wanted to surprise her. The twins filled the girls in on their discovery of finding Aleister at Brigid's home/store as well as letting them know what he said.
Ember wasn't thrilled with the idea of getting them to get together so they could talk. As far as she was concern Aleister deserves everything he gets. So, when the time came to take Brigid somewhere Ember swore she'd keep an attentive eye on her and told the twins that if Aleister even so much as looks at Brigid funny she'll rip his throat out.
___________________________________________________________
Brigid was excited as to where they were going. They wanted to surprise her for her first outing. When they got closer to their destination they blindfolded her.
Her heart was beating with excitement as they led her up some steps and through a door. After a couple of minutes they stopped as Ember spoke.
"Ready?"
Brigid gave an excited nod.
Naomi took the blindfold off causing her to gasp in amazement. They had taken her to the nearby observatory. Before her was the gigantic telescope they'd use. A man in a jacket approached them smiling warmly.
"Welcome! I hope you like the surprise your friends set up for you. They let me know that you enjoy the night sky."
Brigid nods as she looked at everyone who were grinning before looking at the man who pushed his glasses up a bit.
"I do. I love the night sky!"
His smile broadens as he extends his hand to her.
"By the way, my name is Thomas End." He gestured towards the telescope not noticing her slightly stiffen.
"Let me show you the stars."
Her friends look at each other a little concerned at the mention of his name but pushed it aside for the time being as he showed her the telescope up close and got her to sit in the special chair. Her smile came back ten fold as he showed her how to operate it.
Brigid was overjoyed as well as in awe of looking at the universe and neighboring planets. The milky way. Soon everyone taking turns looking at the sky before Thomas took them outside as it was clear out. Blankets were already laid out for everyone to lay on so they could be comfortable.
Thomas was discretely watching Brigid's face and the joy that filled her gaze and couldn't help but smile softly before joining her on the blanket. He cleared his throat slightly as he sat down.
"I hope you don't mind that I join you."
Brigid shook her head as she smiled slightly.
"It's okay."
"I hope you enjoyed yourself tonight? Your friends wanted to make you feel better. Yet, it seems there are still shadows hiding inside."
She looked at him shocked before drawing her knee's up to her chest to hug them as she looked up.
"No offence, but it is not your concern."
"None taken. I did not mean to make you upset."
A prickle of awareness shot down her spine at his tone.
"It's alright. Thank you." She frowns slightly at him. "You seem familiar."
He smiles softly."Perhaps we've met before in another time." With that he laid down on the blanket beside her.
Brigid looks at him a moment before doing the same as she turned her focus to the night sky. She sighed softly as she let the stars mesmerize her. After a little bit she started to feel sadness fill her as she swallowed hard before realizing the sadness wasn't coming from herself. Turning her head she saw Thomas laying there, eye's closed as tears fell.
"May I ask why you're sad?"
Opening his eye's he looked at her as he sat up before wiping his eye's smiling wryly while taking a deep breath.
"I wasn't even aware I was broadcasting myself or even crying." He took a deep breath, his gaze stays on his folded hands that were draped across his bent legs.
"I made a very bad mistake and it may have cost me the one I came to love." He gave a dry chuckle. "The funny thing is I never got to tell her. I got self absorbed and lost sight of what was most important."
Brigid smiles softly. "Have you tried to talk with her?"
He shook his head. "She doesn't want anything to do with me. Not that I blame her. Because of my actions she was injured by my hand. My heart aches at what I've done and I wish to make it right no matter how long it takes. I just don't know where to start."
Brigid could tell easily tell that he was sincere. "Perhaps have her friends help you to do something she'd enjoy and act as chaperones. If you explain yourself like you just did with me although minus the disguise."
Her gaze stayed straight ahead as he stiffened beside her in surprise before swallowing hard.
"What disguise?"
She looks at him resting her head on her folded arms as she sat like he did smiling softly as her eye's were soft and sparkling with un-shed tears.
"I can understand how you'd be unsure of my reaction to seeing you Aleister. I'd be unsure also."
She chuckles at his shocked expression.
"What?"
"How did you know?" The facade drops away revealing his true form.
Brigid shrugs. "A couple of things raised a flag that Thomas End was not quite who he seemed. The words you spoke and how they were said reminded me of you. Your grief is as real as mine when you projected. I picked up on your vibes, so to speak, and that confirmed it for me."
He looked at her with sadness and remorse. "I truly did not mean to push you away Brigid. I was so consumed with anger and hate that I hurt you so deeply where you were losing yourself."
Her heart jumped slightly at seeing his tears fall. "You did hurt me very badly Aleister. It seemed like you rejected me and everything that we were building together." She tilts her head slightly as she looked at him. "You've been suffering also."
He nodded. "I have. I experienced what you did. For the past 2 weeks I can understand what you've gone through and wish for everything to be the way it was. To even change my reaction to Balor finding Billie to you. Perhaps in time you can forgive me mijn geliefde."
She smiled softly at the endearment. "Perhaps we can start over slow."
Her heart jumped as his eye's light up slightly while a small smile formed.
"I would like nothing more Brigid." He goes to stand and offers his hand to help her up also before clearing his throat slightly he bowed to her.
"Good evening. I am Aleister Black and I was wondering if you would join me for dinner say tomorrow night?"
Brigid couldn't help but smile as she blushed.
"I think I would like that. Say, 6..."
He smiles softly. "That sounds perfect Brigid. May I pick you up?"
She gave a shy smile as she gave him the address.

Finally!!! I am sorry for taking so long with this. I hope my muse stays with me for longer this time. As I haven't watched WWE in 2 months or so now. I still see little blurbs here and there about it but as for actually watching it, I have no desire to see wonderful, talented people get miss-treated. And I mean everyone.

Masquerade 10
So happy people have enjoyed this story so far! I know the last chapter was sad, but it starts to get better. Not right away though. It takes time to make it right. Also, Ember is being a straight up savage in this chapter.
___________________________________________________________
Brigid was floating peacefully. Here there was no pain, heartache or doubt. Turning over she swam lazily back to shore. Here, she had no worries. Nothing to concern her. Smiling softly she waded out of the grotto, picked up a towel to wrap around her shoulders. A warm gentle breeze seemed to wrap around her in greeting. Going over to a blanket with a picnic basket on it she sat down and opened it. Reaching in she puled out some water and candied salmon. She frowns slightly at the slight pang she felt in her chest. Just then she felt like she was being watched. Looking up she sees a good looking man at the nearby tree line. Unsure, she stood as he stepped forward hands outstretched in a peaceful manner as he smiled softly.
"I didna’ mean ta startle ya lass. I was wandering when I saw ye. I thought I'd introduce myself."
He held a hand out to her.
"My name is Finn."
She shook his hand as she looked at him still a little wary.
"Brigid."
When their hands touched she reached out and felt nothing but warmth and concern towards her.
"Um, Would you care to join me?"
He gave a slight bow as he released her hand while smiling softly.
"I would be honored."
She lead him back to her spot and sat down. She still felt a little unsettled but decided to share her meal with him anyways as she hasn't seen anyone else here. Pulling out another bottle of water she hands it to him as well as some salmon.
"I didn't think there was anyone here aside from myself."
She tilts her head slightly.
"How long have you been here for?"
He took a bite of salmon frowning slightly.
"Truth be told lass, I'm not even sure where here is."
Brigid lifts a shoulder.
"A place were spirits go. A place of rest before they continue on their journey."
He blinks in surprise as she smiled softly and in understanding.
"You don't remember what happened to yourself?"
He clears his throat.
"Ah, no. Not really. You?"
He saw her eye's fill with sadness as she took a drink of water before nodding.
"I do."
"May I ask what happened. If not, that's alright. Ye don't know me."
She gives a sad smile.
"I don't mind Finn. Maybe it'll help us move on from here to where we're supposed to be."
He swallows hard.
"Maybe."
Brigid looked down at her hands as she started.
"Mine was heartbreak."
She lifts a shoulder.
"I wasn't enough for him I guess. I stayed by his side when he was really sick until he recovered and he tossed me aside like what I did was nothing. I was hoping he would've got in touch with me while we were apart so he could make amends."
She sniffles as she wiped her eye's before giving a humorless chuckle.
"That was a lost cause. He probably didn't even give me a second thought. He didn't want a mate. When he found out he couldn't get in my pants that easily he probably figured I wasn't worth the trouble."
She took a deep breath as she raised her gaze to his. She saw sadness and guilt in his blue eye's.
"It's alright Finn. It's for the best this way. He can go back to the way he was and I can move on."
He tilts his head slightly.
"Ye have anger inside you."
She gave a unladylike snort.
"Of course I do. At him and myself."
"Why yerself?"
"Because if I didn't go to that masquerade I wouldn't have met him and started to fall in love with him. I wouldn't have trusted and believed in him."
Finn looked behind her to the tree line when she wasn't looking before back at her.
"If ye had the chance ta go back would ye? And would ye do anything different?"
She smiled."Of course. I wouldn't go to that party because I wouldn't have met him and I wouldn't be in this position. I would be living my life with my friends and my little book store." She frowns slightly. "Except for Matt and Jeff Hardy."
She wrinkles her nose slightly. "I could so do without them. They were completely twisted and demented." Her gaze then turns sad as she took a breath
. "I feel bad for Roman and Seth. They lost their friend to Matt."
She smiles sadly.
"Things are meant to be this way."
"Ye think so?"
She shrugs.
"Yes. My friends will be sad for me but they can be rest assured I'm not in great discomfort anymore."
She frowns slightly.
"Great discomfort... Perhaps pain would be better as well as sad. No, I'm still sad."
She frowns harder.
"And definitely angry."
She looked sharply at him.
"Before you appeared I wasn't thinking of any of those things. Just enjoying a lovely swim and good food."
Quickly she stands glaring at Finn as he stands as well. "Who are you and why am I thinking those things?! I was quite content and at peace before you showed up!"
Finn holds his hands up.
"Brigid, ye need to calm down lass. Yer not making this easy."
She caught a glimpse of black eye's and his skin briefly changing colour before it was gone.
Finn mentally cursed as he saw her go pale as she looked at him and knew she got a glimpse of his other half. The one she already had met.
"I know you, don't I? I've seen you before."
Reaching a hand up she gently rubs her temple as a headache was quite quickly making itself known. Before she knew it she was staggering and would have fallen if not for Finn catching her. She felt very dizzy and disorientated as she looked up at him.
"Why couldn't you have left me alone? I was happy here. Nothing hurt."
Silent tears spilled free.
Finn looked sadly at her.
"I'm sorry lass. I didna’ mean ta make you upset like this."
Leaning down he placed a gentle kiss on her forehead.
"Rest now."
Those were the last words she heard as her world went black.
______________________________________________________________________
Brigid woke with a gasp as she grabbed the sheets tightly while her gaze darted around the room before landing on a figure whom rushed to her side.
"Brigid! Thank the Goddess you're awake!"
"Ember..."
Brigid coughed weakly at her dry throat. Ember gently eased her up into a sitting position before handing her a glass of water with straw for her to sip out of.
Ember sat carefully on the edge of the bed as she looked at her and smoothed some of her hair back.
"We were so worried for you Brigid. We almost didn't make it time. From what we figured out you mixed to much of that special herb into your drink and wound up drinking some of it."
Brigid saw tears in her friends eye's quickly build and spill over.
"If I didn't come along at that moment..."
Brigid reach out and took her hand in hers.
"You know I'd never leave like that Ember. I was just so tired. The nightmares were so bad..."
Her own tears quickly built and spilled free.
"I couldn't sleep more than 4 or 5 hours at most. My appetite left me. No matter how much I wanted to eat I couldn't. I know everyone was worried for me and was trying to help."
Brigid looked down at her hands as sorrow filled her.
"I'm sorry I let everyone down."
Ember placed a hand over hers getting her to look into her eye's
"You didn't let anyone down Brigid! If anything you showed us how strong you are. You were trying your best to overcome things out of your control."
Ember smiles fondly at her.
"If anything, we are so glad that you're awake. Are you hungry? I can make you something light and nutritious. Wait, are you hungry?"
Brigid smile softly.
"Actually, I am. Perhaps some toast with honey?"
Ember beams before hoping off of the bed.
"Yes! Of course! I'll also let the others know."
With that she bounded out of the room leaving Brigid to smile at her friends enthusiasm. Taking another drink of water she placed the glass back on the side table with a slightly shaky hand. Sighing softly she leaned her head back and closed her eye's. After a moment she heard soft whispering causing her eye's to shoot open as her gaze darted around the room. Her heart was pounding in her chest as her hands twisted in the blanket. She knew she was nowhere near strong enough to defend herself much less anyone else. Her throat felt tight as she silently willed Ember back upstairs. She felt tired still but was scared to close her eye's again. Biting her lip hard enough to draw blood Ember came back in with a small tray.
Seeing Brigid in distress caused her to quickly put the tray down before rushing to her friends side.
"What is it Brigid?"
"I was relaxed and closed my eye's when I heard whispering."
Brigid was terrified everything was starting over again.
Ember could smell and feel her friends distress coming off of her in waves. Reaching out she laid a gentle hand on her shoulder while smiling softly.
"I know someone who can help with things. If you like?"
Swallowing hard Brigid nods.
"How long would it take for him to come here if he's willing."
Ember grins.
"Not long at all. If he's not busy he can be here within half an hour."
Brigid took a deep breath.
"Yes please."
Standing, Ember got the tray and placed it over her lap. Brigid smiled softly at the two slices of toast with honey, a glass of orange juice and small bit of scrambled eggs.
Ember shrugs.
"Just in case you feel like eating a bit more. Eat what you can while I go call him."
"Yes mom."
Ember saw the twinkle in her friends eye before she left the room. Gently closing the door she walked to the stairs before bolting down them and out the front door while pulling out her phone. They answered on the second ring.
"Hey, I need you here asap. It's about Brigid."
She listened a moment before smiling.
"Sweet. We'll see you soon. I'll send you the directions."
Hanging up she looks up at the window with a heavy heart as she remembered.
___________________________________________________________________
Ember, Aleister and Balor went around the side of Brigid's family home and saw her stumble and fall. Ember and Aleister called out her name at the same time as all three rushed to her side.
Aleister gently turned her over as Balor picked up the almost empty glass and took a sniff as they tried to rouse her. His nose scrunched up at what he smelled before looking at Brigid's still form.
"She used to much of a special herb in her drink. She needs aid now."
Aleister scooped her limp form up as Ember quickly showed them where her room was.
Laying her gently on her bed with tears in his eye's, Balor placed a hand on his shoulder.
"You two should wait outside while I help her. We donna want her waking and seeing ye just yet Aleister. Miss Moon, perhaps ye can keep him company and under some control."
Ember grins coldly at Aleister as she dragged him out of the room.
"Gladly."
In the hallway she snarled at him as she shoved him hard.
"She wouldn't be in this predicament if it wasn't for you and Balor wanting to see how long Billie could last under torture! Because of your selfishness she was slowly wasting away thinking that you decided you didn't want her anymore! She believed she was yours and that you grew tired of waiting for her thinking she was just another 'conquest'."
She shoved him again and again as he kept his bowed in shame.
"Why should any of us let you near her again after the shit you did? What kind of mate leaves their other half without some sort of reassurance that everything is going to be alright? What kind of mate are you anyways?!"
A hand on her shoulder had her spinning around snarling louder as she fought the change.
Balor stood there looking remorseful.
"Tis my fault that we lost track of time. We let our hate for Billie cloud our better judgement. It didna’ take long ta find her. She groveled at first then tried ta seduce the both of us."
Aleister finally spoke.
"That was like tossing gasoline on a already burning fire. Rage and blood lust filled me. Because of that I lost control and blocked everything out of my mind. My wolf wanted to rip her to shreds but that would have been too easy, too merciful. We wanted to see her suffer for the wrongs she did. I forgo my mate, the one I was supposed to protect and cherish..."
His voice cracked as he sank to his knees cradling his head in his hands as sobs wracked his frame.
Ember got to her haunches in front of him looking concerned, head tilted slightly. Then with a silent snarl she reached out and yanked his head up by the hair getting him to look at her as her eye's glowed brightly.
"Now you have an idea, a small taste of what Brigid went through every night and day. The hell she went through because of you and your pathetic vendetta. So, Aleister, how does it feel knowing the possibility of losing your mate?"
Balor spoke as he yanked her up.
"Enough Miss Moon! The blame falls on the both of us! Right now our concern is getting Brigid awake and on her way ta being healthy. After tat if she wants nothing ta do with Aleister then we'll have ta respect her wishes."
Ember takes a deep breath.
"Agreed. I'll be downstairs getting a drink."
Before she goes she looks at Aleister.
"I hope you have nightmares. Gut wrenching ones like she had. May you understand the suffering she has gone through. How much she wishes she never went to that Masquerade and met you."
With that she left the two men in the hallway.
