Why world's top fashion houses prefer Como silk?
The Story of the golden silk seems to have two parallel beginnings: one, in China around 3000 years B.C, one around the same period or maybe later, in the Mediterranean regions.
In fact, ancient Romans knew a type of silk called byssus, that came from the Mediterranean are. It was very expensive.
With the arrival a more resistant silk form China, the production of byssus ended. For centuries, the secret of the imperial Chinese court has been hidden. Around year 1000, the technique was already spreading through Sicily and then, the rest of Italy.
It was around the 1400 DC, thanks to Duke Ludovico Sforza (called il Moro, the name of the Mulberry tree -nourishment of silkworms) that silkworm culture developed enormously. It's then and there that the most prestigious silk was born.
Since the 1500 Como Silk has been used by Nobles and Kings all over Europe and today, thanks to the Quality, and the unmatchable design and screen printing colours, the most luxurious fashions "houses" commission their exclusive pieces here.
Como is considered the World Capital of silk. Why Como for silk? Quality. The downturn in the economy and cheap production in China has seen an influx of silk houses migrating to the east. However, while people and machinery can move, tradition cannot. Tradition is rooted in Como.
That's why we have chosen Como's precious silks for our Scarf-Jewels and contrasts on some of our shirts.
