3: What’s your favorite line of narration?

this sickening paragraph near the end of chapter 4. i feel like it really encapsulates how Robin feels about love. she's scarred and she's scared and she involuntarily wants Arven but she doesn't want to want him, and she's dreading falling more in love with him because she feels it's a given she'll be hurt and he'll leave... and i think this paragraph does such a good job of conveying that mindset of hers, and how it makes her dance around her feelings for so long.

4: What’s your favorite line of dialogue?

I've got two. one is funny, one is serious

this is a tiny excerpt from Robin yelling at Penny in chapter 7. i love this line because it is so incomprehensible to the average person, but it just makes so much sense to me. Robin is saying that if Penny wanted to, she could easily be a passable, normal, attractive white woman. she's speaking in code, however, and her message gets completely lost because Penny doesn't quite speak her language. This line has always tickled me just because it's so absurd to see written out but it makes sense to me!

and this one is just a gut-punch from the Robin/Arven fight in chapter 15. When I came up with this one, Arven comparing Robin to his father, how they both avoided their more complicated feelings by just hiding from Arven, I was like 'oooohhh... this might be too much' bc i didn't want to make Arven's breakdown unforgivable, but i also wanted Arven to not just be ranting and raving for no discernable reason. he's held onto the little grudge against her (she did this 5 chapters earlier) because she really did follow the Turo handbook. she felt guilty, so she avoided him. especially bc she's the most important person in his life at that time, that really stung for him. so then he throws it back in Robin's face, knowing just how much she loathes Turo for what he did to Arven... ooohh it's got Robin angry and guilty at the same time.

5: What part was hardest to write?

Probably the flashback to Robin performing 'Last Dance' in her school talent show in chapter 5. i find it really awkward to write performances. at least that one, i was able to use Robin's thoughts and hindsight on the situation to flesh it out, but it was still really annoying. Either that or the scene where Mabosstiff is healed with the last Herba Mystica in chapter 9, that one was rough for me lmao. i still don't think that was my best work, it didn't feel climactic enough for me

9: Were there any alternate versions of this fic?

I'm not quite sure what this question means lmao, so i'm gonna interpret it as "was there anything that almost happened in the fic that didn't?"

so my original plan was to drag out the romantic tension all the way to chapter 15. no kissing, no confession, despite the fact that they admit in narration that they're in love from chapter 6/7-ish. i decided, especially after I got the idea for the devious kiss in chapter 9 (late addition, only thought of that after people started begging me to let them kiss) that it would be both unrealistic and cruel of me to do that. you mean to tell me that neither Arven or Robin are gonna wanna clarify after that mess? Robin's just gonna be mad at him forever? i let them kiss again in chapter 11 just to keep them in an awkward relationship limbo in Area Zero.

also, the fight at the end of chapter 15? wasn't supposed to happen. the fic was supposed to end with the confession, but the plan had to change bc i let them kiss. what, was I just gonna end this behemoth of a fic on a limp note, a confession both parties mostly knew at that point? no! i had to throw in a bit more drama. so i threw a fight in there, triggered by Arven's trauma and grief, so that the fic could end on a more dramatic note.

also, Robin was originally bulimic but i cut that out just bc i felt like it was irrelevant and just added shock value and not much more. in bad taste, if you will.

oh, and Caitlin and Chrys were supposed to only find out about Robin and Arven by snooping on them at first. that idea got scrapped pretty quickly so i could expand Chrys' role.

10: Why did you choose this pairing for this particular story?

i'm a BIG arven fan. Love that man.

also there were some parts of ScarVi that i felt were really weird. Arven is a lot more zen about his dad calling the player than I thought was realistic, and he grieves very quickly and easily, which I call bullshit on. he should be all fucked up inside you guys! so i wanted to expand upon his grief a whole bunch, especially with how he'd respond to the player character taking the lead in his story and how he'd find a way to love them anyway. so the fic was conceptualized as Arven/Player Character. as for why i threw Robin in, why not? when you write the player character (Florian/Juliana), you're basically writing an OC because the source material gives you very little to work with. so i decided to use Robin for it bc i think she's fabulous. I'd come up with Robin for a Fakemon region i was writing. She was gonna be the player's rival, who turned out to be working for the evil team all along, but she did so bc the evil team leader was Oskar, her father, and she'd been ignorant of his craziness for a while. That's also where I got the idea to make Caitlin her aunt lmao. they would've had a fierce Multi Battle. Mega Gallade and Mega Gardevoir!

15: What did you learn from writing this fic?

that i can, in fact, write pretty quickly if I'm passionate about what I write. also, writing Robin has really helped me vent my own frustrations about being a lovely transgender lady. her attitude about love at the start of the fic is largely mine, except i have yet to be proven wrong lmao. also, i learned you can make a character unrealistically fabulous and still have them feel like a human. i'm consistently surprised that people like what I write lmao. one commenter told me they thought Robin was well written and I was so gagged. This bitch? Miss Mary Sue Poots herself? I gagged so severely. very happy about that.
