Gee ffxiv it sure is a good thing that we have two moons and only the first one was a fucked up spaceship. I'm so glad the other moon is just a normal moon and not a fucked up spaceship. Sometimes me an babe ( @zombiesockfuckinglovescardfight ) have very serious lore for our xiv guys. And sometimes. The Yo-Kai event starts and I stare at Shogunyan for too long and then I look at him and I say,

“Now hear me out. What if Ishi learned how to be a Samurai from this cat.”

anyway the actual point of fandom is to inspire each other. reading each other's fics and admiring each other's art and saying wow i love this and i feel something and i want to invoke this in other people, i want to write a sentence that feels like a meteor shower, i want to paint a kiss with such tenderness it makes you ache, i want to create something that someone else somewhere will see it and think oh, i need to do that too, right now. i am embracing being a corny cunt on main to say inspiring each other is one of the things humanity is best at and one of the things fandom is built for and i think that's beautiful

One thing that really gets me about Urianger comforting Minfilia in Amh Araeng is that when she says Thancred hates her, Urianger never actually says, no, he doesn't. He says instead, none of this is your fault, and the original Minfilia wouldn't hold anything against you, and in typical Urianger form he says some things about fate and faith, and his words are kind and beautiful--but he also completely sidesteps the question of how Thancred feels about her.

And I think this moment is very reflective of Urianger's relationship to Thancred and child!Minfilia as a whole. It reflects what we see when we first see all of them together in Il Mheg.

Urianger knows that the way Thancred behaves toward the girl is hurting her. He's spent enough time around the two of them to see that plainly. Theoretically, he could say something to Thancred about it; they're obviously close friends, and if Thancred was going to value anyone's opinion, it would be his. But he doesn't say anything, because he still feels guilty and responsible for all of it: about their Minfilia going to the First and what happened to her there, and thus for what both Thancred and child!Minfilia are going through now. Even though Thancred has never outright blamed him for it (however he may feel privately, which I think is hard to say), it seems like Urianger still feels like he has no right to say anything.

So he tries to compensate instead. He's kind to Minfilia, connects with her in his own way and gives her books, and by the time we see them together he's obviously become something of a familial figure to her. I would say that he and Thancred aren't so much raising her together as they're doing it... around one another. Thancred is gruff and cold and holds Minfilia at arm's length emotionally so that his protectiveness comes off harshly even when it's well-meant, and Urianger dotes on her and tries to make up for it all while avoiding the actual problem.

So that conversation in Amh Araeng is both touching and maddening to me, and it really drives home what's maddening about it when, upon overhearing it, the Warrior of Light turns to Thancred to ask him if he has anything to say to Minfilia--who has just said, out loud, that she thinks Thancred wishes she was dead--and Thancred just says, "Not today."

And so they both go on avoiding the actual problem, for just a little longer.

urianger initially approaching ryne (when they first meet) with the experience of babysitting the leveilleur twins (as this has been working well with the pixies) but finding that children who know what they want and will order you around and are of a higher social station than you and who you "serve" and have other adult family (who are their direct guardians) who they know cherish them behave very differently and respond very differently than a child who has been taught to be quiet and meek and to live in the corner of a cage her whole life, who has never had an adult respect her or value her autonomy or opinion before, who will not speak unless spoken to, who is certain at every turn that all care will be taken away from her in some fashion, who has spent her whole life being told she is worthless, and will feel existential guilt over literally any perceived misstep or failure... urianger having to develop a different approach to childcare than the one he's used to because a confident child needs different treatment from a deeply traumatized one

Vierapril Day 26 - Crystaline/Style

Oops all Tuesday??? When given free reign to pick his own clothes and not working he’ll change from the maid dress to comfier fares- he tends towards closed toe shoes more than Chuu, and looser pants but snugger shirts (at least the bottom layer). He’ll also readily wear longer skirts (knee length and longer) because they have excellent freedom of movement and they tend to look nice. He also wanted longer hair for Keathan to brush as a tactile sensation and bonding/relaxing activity.
