Back in Time! How to Celebrate New Year’s Eve Twice?
Tumblr media
The last day of 2018 is coming. Nothing can make you happier than a New Year’s Eve party. What? One is not enough, then come again. Yes, you didn't get it wrong. On December 31, 2018, you can spend New Year’s Eve twice.
Back in time? How to do it? In fact, it is very simple. There are 24 time zones across the globe. The earth rotates from west to east, so people on the east side see the sunrise first, and the east side is earlier than the west side. If you cross the International Date Line from west to east, then you subtract a day.
Knowing the theory, what you have to do now is to cross the East Time Zone to the West Time Zone. By walk? Too slow. By boat? Still too slow. Of course, it is by plane! The fastest way to cross the time zones is only by plane. However, such special flights are really scarce. Let’s show you.
If you take flight UA890 by United Airlines on January 1, 2019 from Shanghai Pudong International Airport, by the time you arrive in San Francisco, you will find you go back in time and return to December 31, 2018. Therefore, you can celebrate New Year’s Eve again.

In addition, so long as you take flight from East Asian countries (China, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, etc.) on December 31, 2018 to the United States and Canada (except Guam and Saipan, USA), you can welcome 2019 twice. However, the first New Year’s Eve will be spent on the plane. For example, if you take flight CA7205 by Air China, departing from Beijing at 17:25 on December 31st, you will welcome 2019 during the flight, and when you arrive in San Francisco, the local time is 13:00, December 31st.

We also recommend the following flights for you:
CA981 (PEK, Dec.31st 13:00 -JFK, Dec.31st 13:30)
MU587 (PVG, Dec.31st 11:30 -JFK, Dec.31st 13:25)
AC032 (PEK, Dec.31st 18:50 -YYZ, Dec.31st 18:45)
MU207 (PVG, Dec.31st 12:05 -YYZ, Dec.31st 13:25)
(The above time is local time)

What kind of the oddest things occurred on airplanes you have encountered?
There are always kinds of things happened on airplanes, something good, bad, weird or annoying to others. It seems normal to us, and we often pay more attention to the reaction of cabin attendants.
Recently, a Japanese Twitter user did not encounter something quite so wild on his flight. When the cabin attendants asked passengers if they wanted something to drink, a man beside him asked for a window. The passenger had presumably chosen a window seat, but rather than being greeted with a stunning view of the pristine white clouds outside, there was only a blank cabin wall where the window should be. Naturally, this would have upset the man since he was unable to enjoy the biggest perk of having a window seat.
Eventually, the flight attendant quickly returned with a piece of paper and promptly taped it to the wall. We don’t know if the man appreciated the azure blue clouds and tranquil ocean featured on the drawing, but some Japanese netizens thought that the flight attendant was very clever to deal with this passenger’s unreasonable demand.

So, if you were the flight attendant, how would you deal with the annoying demand? And have you ever encountered some oddest things occurred on airplanes?

Passenger screening at U.S. airports soon may be accomplished much faster, more safely and less intrusively with a new technology that is about to undergo final testing by TSA, the Transportation Security Administration.
The “passive terahertz” screening can screen multiple airport passengers at the same time from a distance of up to 25 feet away without emitting any radiation. So, we don’t need to stand directly in front of the device. Of course, the new device also can read dangerous objects hidden under some passengers’ clothes. Each scanner can process up to 2,000 passengers per hour.

Do you remember the “old days” when you could say goodbye at the airport gate to send a loved one to board a plane? Or you could welcome them with a hug at the gate of a domestic flight? It is really an exciting experience, isn’t it? Now, the opportunity has come back! The Seattle-Tacoma International Airport are trialing its new “Visitor Pass Program”, which allows people without tickets to enter the domestic gates only after a TSA screening. Besides, the new trial allows 50 visitors per day, and you need sign up online before 1:30 p.m. on the day before a visit. Visitors with passes must also have a photo ID and go through the same TSA checkpoint as ticketed passengers. Another exciting hour is that you also can shopping or dining at the post-security area. Image that you can again give the one you send off or welcome home a big and warm hug at the first time, your happy hour may last a long time.

“Alexa, ask Virgin Australia to check me in!”

Guess what, what your voice can be used for in our daily life? Talk, singing, voice message```
Now your voice can be used in another way. If you are a Velocity frequent flyer of Virgin Australia, you can check-in for your flight with your voice. You can link your membership to Alexa, Amazon’s online virtual assistant, and say “Alexa, ask Virgin Australia to check me in”, and then you will receive your boarding pass to a nominated mobile number.
Also, you can ask questions to Alexa to get your flight departure time, Velocity number, flight number and booking reference.
By the way, have you ever imaged what your voice can be used for in other ways in future?

77-hour flight delay? What do you want airlines to do except for apology?
Tumblr media
I don’t know whether you were stranded in an airport before because of rainy weather, air traffic control, mechanical issues or some other reasons. And I believe that if it happened to you, it would be absolutely a nightmare.
Last week, an eight-hour flight from Orlando to London on British Airways was badly delayed because of mechanical issues, so that over 200 passengers were left stranded to endure a 77-hour flight delay at two different airports. The worst thing was that some passengers even slept on the terminal floor of JFK Airport. Passengers were furious as they were stranded without information or availability of food and drink, and only a few were given rooms. Besides, the British Airways staff also arrive at the airport lately. Eventually, a relief plane was sent by British Airways to JFK Airport to take the passengers to London. And a British Airways spokesman apologized for the long delay.
How crazy it was! When I heard that news, the only thing I thought about was why it is so hard for airlines to offer satisfactory irregular flight services. It is unavoidable to delay because of objective factors, but they could do well in the services.
For me, when a flight delay happens, I want to receive the flight information announcement as soon as possible, and the airline can offer fast ticket changes and refunds service. Of course, we need their staff to communicate with us timely and offer proper ground services, including delayed meals, accommodations, etc. I think the above I mentioned is basic for delayed passengers. Passengers should take them into consideration when you choose an airline to start your journey. After all, no one wants to be messed up their trips because of unexpected events.
So, what do you want airlines to do except for apology and compensations when flight delay happens?
