I keep hearing people say things like "I'm afraid of AI" or "AI is scary". I think people have the wrong view here. AI shouldn't be scary, we shouldn't be afraid. We should be angry. There are people in this world who want to improve AI, these people are the enemies of humanity.
AI is going to revolutionize surveillance and misinformation. If you value knowing the truth about anything, you should be very angry that AI is being developed still. If you wanted to control the population, AI is the perfect tool to generate convincing propaganda and surveil your dissidents. Imagine for a moment, that the cops can just create video evidence of you committing a crime, or of you admitting, this is possible soon. This is only what the government can do with it, think about how bright the future is for advertisers, who will soon be able to generate ads targeting you based on every facet of your life even better.
Artificial intelligence is an existential threat to humans (the people, not the billionaires), and it needs to be stamped out and forgotten before it destroys the truth online.
Idk. Maybe I'm just some crazy person for wanting to be able to trust anything ever, for wanting to make sure my government can't mind control me or track me down even better and arrest me with evidence of crimes I didn't commit. I sure as hell feel like I'm going crazy, because everyone seems ok with AI being such a widely used thing. Where are our protests? Are we just giving up? What the fuck guys?

I'm not a fan of cops, but I hate Larpers more. Not real larpers, not the people who are cool and dress up and swordfight and stuff, they're chill.
I hate the idiots who dress up like cops and act as private security for grocery stores and other businesses. At least real pigs pretend not to be owned by companies. Have some fucking self respect not to pretend to be a class traitor. These tacticool idiots are all over if you look for them, and they want you to see them in their tac vests and cargo pants, and they want your respect, or at least your fear.
God, can you just be normal? Can you at least not lick the boot to the point of imitation? Fucking morons.

random anecdote for father's day: one time during a long car ride my dad asked me, "you're familiar with Murphy's Law, right?" and i was like "isn't that the one about how anything that can go wrong will go wrong?" and he said "yeah, exactly" and i said "why do you ask?" and he went "well, have you heard of Cole's Law?" and i said "no, actually, what's that?" and he said "it's mostly lettuce and carrots with a little dressing mixed in"

Art is a sport
One common thing I see among artists who are just starting out is that they are very precious about their work -- ironically, way moreso than experienced artists. They need to get every line JUST right, because in their mind, getting that line just right is what stands between the piece being bad and it being good. I was like that too, for so long that I'm still struggling to catch up because of how it hampered my progress.
Being precious about every line is kind of like a track sprinter starting a run, but then restarting every time their foot lands in any slightly suboptimal way. This is comes off as silly, because we know that the "unit" of what they are doing is a sprint, and that they would make their greatest progress by finishing the full sprints, because that's how they train.
Well, similarly, the "unit" of art is a finished piece. What stands between the sprinter and the time they want isn't 1 individual step, but 1000 sprints. What stands between the beginner artist and making art they like the look of isn't that 1 line, but, i'm sorry to say, 1000 pieces.
Taking note of any mistakes you made afterwards is something done by both the experienced artist and experienced sprinter -- this is healthy and helps you improve. But you can do that later, after you're done.
That line is good enough.

Yesterday, I said goodbye to a coworker of mine. He's leaving the company, and I'm not sure I'll still work here in September either.
I should probably mention that he's not dead. Gene and I would always exchange pleasantries when we saw each other at work. He'd smile and say hey and I'd say hey back. We didn't really speak much else to one another, but we always smiled and nodded when we saw each other. I'm kind of sad that i might never see him again, but in a kind of fulfilled way. I don't know if this makes any sense.

There's an ad going around that claims to be able to identify your trauma by asking you what you see first in an image. In case anyone was thinking, this test probably has less validity than an inkblot test. Inkblot tests are not used today, because they don't actually do what they claim to do. If anyone has a study they want to cite to contradict this, feel free to send it to me and I'll take a look.
Scams like this benefit from the mysticism that surrounds psychology, and they are parasitic pieces of shit. Stay safe, stay informed, don't fall for bad tricks.
