Everything about it is wrong. Opeli knows this: she is a cleric, and High Cleric no less, and the vows she took when she was twenty-one explicitly forbid these pleasures, but Soren is difficult to refuse at the best of times because he is her friend, and he is charming, and he knows that she's tired and that she works harder than she'll give herself credit for and that she deserves a little fun every now and then even if he has to coax her into it with a lopsided grin and mischievous eyes.

It's not an excuse. She should have rebuked him. She should rebuke him now. But his mouth is hot, and his eyes are hungry, and Justice help her, so is she even if she will never admit it.

It's been years, decades, even, since she's allowed herself to be so weak and had someone else in her bed to hold her and kiss her and move within her, and it's all so wrong, wrong, but—

She arches against him, a bitten-off cry slipping from her lips as she seizes around, her mind and her senses overwhelmed with the way his hips grind against hers while his mouth works against her jaw. His hands are so strong and so large and around her wrists and it's so possessive, and so scandalous that she likes it, the display of power, the opportunity to submit. And through it all, his eyes are soft: as if she might be a goddess herself, and as if this is his version of devotion and worship.

How can Opeli deny him when he looks at her like that? How can she refuse him when he makes her feel so wanted, so lo—

She does not allowed herself to finish the thought, especially as he muffles a grunt against the side of her neck, fingers tightening around her wrists as he judders into her, his breath heavy with release.

Silence settles over them, broken only by their ragged breathing, and Soren presses his forehead against hers, relishing their closeness and hesitant to pull out and away. He does in the end, and Opeli misses his touch immediately as he releases her wrists and rolls carefully off her, chest still heaving as he blinks through the darkness and post-orgasmic haze.

He'll leave soon. He always does, because she'll ask him too, because they can't stay in each other's quarters like this, and because she is still High Cleric and he is still Captain of the Crownguard. Something in Opeli's chest aches at thought. She has grown so used to him being here, and the bed is too cold and too large for her alone now that she knows how it feels to share it.

He should go. She should ask him to. But then he shifts and sits up, and Opeli's hand darts out to grasp his.

"Stay," she blurts.

He blinks at her through the darkness.

She blinks back. Then she draws her hand back and looks away. "It's late," she says lamely. "You should rest."

His lips twitch a little. "Is that what you want?"

Opeli takes a breath. She has never been good at admitting to her wants, but here it is dark, and it is safe, and she's too far gone to pretend it isn't. "Yes," she whispers. "I want you to stay."

He smiles. Then he settles back into her bed and folds her into his arms, her head against his chest, his heartbeat drumming steadily against her cheek.

It's all wrong, she tries to remind herself, but the thought shrinks, and all she knows is how it all feels so right.

i went back to the assassin colors because i think it just suits rayla so well. callum made her the horn cuffs, and she braided his hair. i also gave callum thigh high boots because he deserves to be a bit cunty too. overall, i like their current designs, and i wanted to just update it for their early 20s.
