Newbie, if you leave this hospital knowing only one thing, and, god save me, it seems there’s a pretty good chance that just might happen, let that one thing be this: that medicine in a collaborative effort and that means your opinion is just as important as mine. So, let’s see if you got the gobstoppers to take the lead and be me.
JD’s stomach was in knots as he entered the doctors’ lounge. It was empty, aside from Dr Cox, and with good reason. The entire aura of the room was filled with sadness, anger, and confusion, and anyone who had been working at the hospital longer than a week knew better than to enter Cox’s bubble when he was emitting a sense of that particular cocktail of emotions.
The young doctor adjusted his grip on the box of Krispy Kremes he picked up that morning. He knew nothing could really change the way his mentor was feeling right now, but something sweet always helped him when he was feeling down, and he felt he had to give it a shot, whether or not it blew up in his face.
JD cleared his throat and slowly approached and sat down next to the older man on the couch. “Hey Coxer…"he said quietly, as if he was afraid to speak too loudly, which he partially was. "I…um…I brought you…” He couldn’t finish his sentence, and instead held out the box, ready for the explosion that was likely to occur.
