Spoilers for GSNK Chapter 168 (Thoughts and Discussion) Part 1

NOZACHIYO NATION!!! WE'RE WINNING!!!! WE ARE WINNING!!! This whole chapter isn't just nozachiyo crumbs anymore this is an entire loaf of nozachiyo bread* given to us by tsubaki izumi and I'm so OBSESSED

(**this was actually confirmed by tsubaki izumi as this whole chapter really was ab nozachiyo and it has a higher page count than usual!!!!)

god this chapter was the highlight of my WHOLE ENTIRE WEEK. this single chapter was able to capture more of chiyo's personality and quirkiness while also focusing on nozachiyo's closeness and how they just work so well together. THEY'RE SO SILLY I LOVE THEM SOOOOOO MUCH. feel free to read through my thoughts and reactions bc i SWEAR i can't be the only person im talking about this with

Disclaimer: these translations/interpretations of events are NOT 100% accurate. i could only say that my understanding of Japanese is pretty decent and I've also cross-referenced the kanji/words i didn't know before with a jp dictionary + my general knowledge of the word but either way, I could, at least, understand the gist of what's happening within the storyline

the way this all started bc nozaki noticed that he and sakura had been meeting/seeing each other EVERYDAY and how he wanted to use this as an advantage for a special chapter in his manga...classic nozaki.

(unfortunately for him he could never know what's going to hit him after all this... )

also them 'seeing each other everyday' was sakura's doing bc she memorized his class's schedule HAHSHSH

from what i can understand, the dynamic this time is between two childhood friends who had always been close with each other (or at least in 'proximity' as shown by how the tsundere ML seems to come to pick up the FL to go to school often) and what happens when one of them (the FL) starts avoiding the ML, and the ML going through the dilemma of realizing that he may have taken her, and their time together, for granted which pushes him to realize how important she actually is to him

the way sakura even describes this is so funny bc she said something in the lines of "realizing that the biggest fish is always the one that gets away even if you pulled on it strongly" and nozaki just agrees even though the story was presumably something that's more akin to a "sweet reconciliation between two childhood friends ❤" LMAO

sakura is just so fucking funny i love her so much and she's so real!!! What she says here is basically just her VERY excitedly telling nozaki how much she loves and enjoys reading scenarios/stories where the ML/guys suffers A LOT and she's just like me fr. she was even adamantly asking nozaki to "make him suffer a lot ok!!" TWICE and was very much looking forward to seeing that happen HDHAGSGS

she also doesn't even care ab the heroine's personality as long as we also see her being hurt in the first half of the story HSHAHAHS

^^side note: i also love at how in the beginning of the panel nozaki was like "you're really getting excited over this, aren't you, sakura?

what happens next is sakura asking what help did nozaki need and does she need to avoid him for this to work. nozaki affirms it as so and then asks sakura on her thoughts about the whole schtick...and she...in usual sakura fashion, says that they need to lay down the work and prepare for the "avoidance" part of their act/roleplay.

so she suggests that nozaki should order and boss around sakura for at least a week (an example of being treated 'wrongly') and then after that she'll start to avoid him for a week (because of him being 'terrible' to her lol) so that the whole thing could work out and nozaki would feel the loss of sakura not being with him (especially after taking advantage of her).

"that's something that could happen in a manga!" nozaki comments lol

nozaki excitedly agrees and asks sakura if she's willing to cooperate in this roleplaying thingamajig in which chiyo, once again, in usual sakura chiyo fashion, actually just wants to take advantage of the fact that she's going to be ordered around by nozaki as part of the preparation instead of their simulated "distance makes the heart grow fonder" shoujo manga/romance trope that they were supposed to be focusing on lol

nozaki's friends are back!!! and they're even funnier and very supportive of sakura's crush on nozaki as ever!!! nozaki gave them a heads up about how he's going to treat be treating sakura badly by calling her over and bossing her around for the entire week

2n-3rd panels show nozaki calling over sakura and telling her to do this and that with her (VERY HAPPILY) going along with it. nozaki is then making a very tense "look at how natural for her to come over every time I call out her name" face while the other two are just looking at this in pure admiration and awe witha "of course it's natural for sakura-san to come to nozaki whenever she hears him speak her name" THEY'RE SO SILLY

looool nozaki was actually expecting his friends to tell him off because of how terrible he's being with sakura but instead they even give chiyo some snacks as a reward for her being succesful at gaining his attention lol

nozaki then tries to provoke them again by snagging a piece of sakura's meal saying "ohhh this one has a lot of calories so I'll be taking it away from you" AS IF THAT WAS A 'BAD THING' TO DO

naturally, his friends are happy for sakura since she didn't just get her decreased calorie intake, she also got nozaki to eat from her meal while nozaki is just thinking of how terrible of a person these guys are for supporting the "bullying" he's been doing to sakura hdhshs

nozaki here was initially telling sakura that something just feels wrong with ordering her around and he just can't get into the whole schtick anymore, but sakura refutes by saying that he feels that way because he's been ordering her to do things that he doesn't even want her to do and asks him to think of something that he truly wants to do / ask of her to do or help out with doing said thing

nozaki figures out what he wanted and it was basically pictures of an operation room LOL he also with wanted pictures of body parts that are preserved through formalin and also doctors in their white doctor's coats lmaooo

first panel tl: and so for the whole week, nozaki was in a really good mood. (cue to him pointing to the stuff nozaki wants sakura to take a picture of)

first panel, continued: the girl right next to him was at his beck and call, willingly following his orders. nozaki himself, was really enjoying this whole thing.

the two then explains the situation to mikorin, stating that by next week, sakura would now be avoiding nozaki (in contrast to how they've been together this whole week)

mikoshiba asks how the week has been for sakura and sakura only says that the camera's memory had increased by 3x and mikorin was like "you and the camera spent a lot of time together, huh"

sakura responds, "I've been trying to stabilize the camera for 1/3 of the time though..."

mikorin: you've really definitely spent a lot of time with that camera, didn't you..." HDHAHSHJSN poor sakura

M: sakura, how'd the week go for you?

S: the camera's memory was multiplied by 3x

M: you've gotten closer with that camera more than nozaki, haven't you?

S: I've been trying to stabilize the camera for 1/3s of the time, however...

ANYWAYS i will be ending the part 1 of the discussion here as it will be too long if i talk about the whole chapter in just one post TT but overall this first half (8 pages out of 16) is really good, funny and provides a necessary build-up for what happens in the second half which i will be talking ab shortly on a different post 👀

this first half just needed to be talked about regardless bc i really love how things started going down after this lol
