Week 7
I created a funny little video with the purpose of making sure i understand and remember after effects as i have used it before. I added images and audio to certain segments as well as adding some gifs that involved windy weather because of my love for cold weather. When u first started after effects, i was confused and hated it, but as time went on and i started to get the basics and hang of it, it's truly fun. implementing stuff became easier and i see and seen the potential of after effects, i'm nowhere near that as i am creating very simple transitions like moving a rectangle from side to side and triggering the opacity, as well as using ease-in and out. The one thing i actually found challenging was the project itself as i couldn’t come up with something that could last 10 seconds and decided to just throw things and they sorta managed to work, as it’s quite funny to me at least. i did want to make a moving animation but that would just straight up be an animation and nothing to do with after effects other than doing something minor. Overall the whole project went well and didn’t have any struggles other then planning out the idea.

For the self portrait assignment, i’ve decided to go with a half illustration and half real photos for both side. and mix in different elements like a beach with the burn effect as well as alter the photos a bit. I picked my approach by going illustrative on the right and having the background be real images and altered a bit with the color burn and the patch tool with a low brush. just to give the painting a bit more to it. I went with a purple color to show some sort of “emotion” due to me looking sorta angry as my friend pointed out but i wasn’t actually mad in any form, so i went with a purple due to me thinking it was the best combination for that feeling. the right side i went for a real image and altered it by drawing part of it over and also using the dodge tool on my face just because I felt like it. the background this time was just a brush to alternate with rights background being realistic. my images cuts off as well at the bottom so i added a white sweatshirt to my black sweatshirt to be cool but instead left it with two eyes so thought it was funny and left it. i’m not so happy with the final result though as I would've liked to go with a more illustrative route but I wouldn't be able to use the tools we used during class time so I opted to do half real and half illustrations. i feel like i can really express myself more with more illustrations as well as i find most of these tools to not be effective due to me really just doing stuff with intention and i still felt lost even though i did have intentions with each move. another reason could be me not really liking this form of art style, i tried something new like being more abstract, i didn’t like it really much but i would not have figured that out if i didn’t actually try the art style out.

Week 5
For my photoshop images, i created two images involving similar images, for example i would take an image of a sky and would incorporate it with a hot air balloon of a separate image and try to do something with it. I used the smudge tool and the burn tool quite a bit as well as the spot healing brush as those tools really alter an image. Everything worked well for this assignment, not much was actually hard to do as all the tools were very straightforward to use. the only hard image I truly had a hard time with was the clone stamp but I figured it out later in the project and after that it was very simple. Breaking the image was in my opinion very boring as I'm not really into alter images as its a very mind numbing experience. it doesn’t convey a story other than my main intentions, breaking the image was just not fun to me. I prefer my projects to be an image created that makes sense, like I'm changing the image in order for it to make sense and have the purpose of fixing it or making it better to look at it like adding unnatural shadows or lighting but it would enhance the image and make it pop out more. I also felt lost during the process of breaking my images as I didn't know if what I was doing was actually fulfilling the assignment and just felt like I was doing random actions to just convey a different narrative that made zero sense. Which leads back to me liking/wanting to create something that makes sense and doesn’t confuse anyone

Week 4
For the two gifs i created, it was me getting used to photoshop's animation system as i’ve used other forms of animation softwares, which in my opinion are slightly better then photoshop but that may be due to me just starting. what worked well for me was the layers and drawing as it was very simple to just create layers and convert it to actual frames/clips. what was challenging was being able to place those frames/clips into the proper spot, as sometimes it would actually skip over one of my frames and wouldn’t allow me to access it and would have to do some sort of maneuver just to interact with it. that made it very frustrating to continue working. GIFs i feel like are a good way of supporting certain animation but at the end of the day i feel like normal animation or other forms of animation can tell a deeper story and have more room for decoration. all of this could be implemented into a gif but it won’t dish out the same amount of emotion a normal one minute animation would. as well as you are very limited to the amount of time since it’s a gif. I created a torch to start off to get used to photoshop and made it sit where its flames were moving to mimic wind blowing in the “background”. for my next god it was a character whose hair was blowing in the wind. I wanted movement to be involved and thought that hair movement was the best way to convey movement in the short time I had. both were very short so i would like to make them longer if i had to go back as well as add more detail to them.

Week 3
For Trimble, I felt that it was more beginner friendly and very easy to use compared to womp. it may be due to me not being really into it or not enough care to actually learn how to use the program but i felt like it was easier and more fun.what worked really well was how i was able to create simple characters without any struggle, and sure they were very boxy and couldn’t get into much detail like I normally would but it was straight forward and just a start with the program. For Womp, it was way easier to create reflective objects as it already had the setting applied but the amount of material that was available compared to Trimble is way more. The challenging part was creating certain “mouths” for these characters because sometimes it would ruin the inside of the box or just protrude out more than it should, creating a weird extra box as well as cutting up other objects. Unlike Womp where everything feels a little too challenging to use due to it feeling more complex and the struggle behind that was actually creating anything to begin with. I don’t think I would ever use this softwares personally unless I want to have the layout of my own house created by me. But unlike the last software polycam, this one feels like it could be used in the future for creating a starting point in building a house. To see how the customer wants their house built, it’s easy and straightforward where I could see people skipping the progress of actually creating a traditional blueprint. I myself have never used any other applications to create 3d models, so I can’t compare it to anything. I’ve never been interested in creating 3d models as well, but these programs seemed to make me want to check it out more in the future, especially seeing other people’s work.

Week 2
When I started off, I would double take photos on each angle to try to make sure the rendering was as accurate and looked like it was real. What also worked really well in creating a smooth render was to use the maximum amount of photos I was allowed and make sure I got every little angle to create a realistic enough render. The challenging part was when I tried to make it look more janky and abstract. I started off trying to move my camera fast to make the rendering be more abstract but it ended up failing multiple times, which led to another attempt of making less radical movements, as well as lowering the amount of photos. This would also end up failing and I took a new approach by not doing any absurd movement and keeping my camera steady, as well as changing the lighting and distance from the object but I decided to continue to do less images to make the app have a harder time. After using the app myself, I can't really find a reason you would want to use this in any real life scenario. It looks more of a toy something alongside a drone where it doesn't really do anything but it's cool. It has potential to be something where people could use it in creating a template of a building as a starting point as well as creating an end result to show to clients or what amazon is doing where you can place furniture in your home to see how it would look. But I feel as if it won't be as effective since there could be a lack of depth as well as I feel a blueprint outshines it in every way. Mostly due to it being around for a long time, That's why I feel as if it's more of an app you use for fun instead of it being something serious. While working on this assignment, I found that the Smoother version was too normal. It has nothing special to it and is just the object at lower quality. But the broken version was more fun to create and gave me an interesting result. It was connected to other objects as well as light wouldn't match, and had the look of a cyber truck. The smooth one had nothing to it, nothing changed other than its resolution, and looking at it from an art perspective. It didn't create anything that would make it “pop”. The broken version has a form of personality to it as there is a certain goal and intention you are attempting to create. You can be more experimental and really push the app to its limits to create something unique and fun. Going the broken route when creating images like these, is one of the best ways to go about using the app polycam. You have so much more freedom in creating interesting pieces of art. Going the smooth route and attempting to make it look like a photo in real life, can be a great challenge for you.
