Can you be too lazy to actually post stuff?
Anyway, just some moana redraw stuff I did for funsies, cause i was still on this bitch and something that I failed to mentioned just realized is that she also has more prominent smile line, hence why people think she looks weird aside from the obnoxious “disney filter eyes”. I know i heard there was a time crunch in the production, but holy shit how do you fuck up your own main character. Also i saw the new trailer for Zootopia2 as well and I guess its an overall aesthetic change because Nick and Judy also looked weirdly smooth and chubby. This is like when Shrek5 trailer dropped, everyone was pointing out how weird he looked.

I tried doing a screenshot redraw while I was studying her face and I hate how this ended up taking a long time to finish ugh
Here’s my other Moana art I did some time ago
Tumblr media
Edit: I did a lot of edits on the first piece 😭

She does looked more Elsa-ish, hence the “disney face filter” just the most generic of disney style.
(I’m really just adding more of these edits because its fun to do now lol)

Also I don’t think they changed her parents, the art book just says they just have a few wrinkles and grey hairs, Tui’s hair especially, very visible salt and peppers, but other than that they seem to be the same, though her mother’s face does looked more squished like she does sometimes, but idk

Ok so there was something about Moana 2 model that’s been bothering me, and I couldn’t stop thinking about what it is, so I decided to do a quick study (surprisingly quick..) of her face in first movie and the second one and retrace it.
I think the major thing that stood out to me is possibly her cheeks, cheekbones, and especially her eyes. She has this “disney face filter” on her and that makes her looked incredibly off.
Supposedly she looks older, but somehow she ended up looking younger and goofy looking? I also noticed similar things when looking at other recent wdas. The characters’ faces in those disney sequels tend to look more smoother, younger, compact(?) despite they were supposed to be older. It’s understandable if it’s a 2D animated film, but this is 3D, how did the quality decreased? I’m also not going to fully blame Moana 2 because it was originally suppose to be a tv series, so perhaps the quality control wasn’t as firm, but still I wish they didn’t go too off model so often in M2

No problem and yeah she kinda lost her uniqueness, I can’t tell if its her model or how she’s animated or the animators tend to exaggerate her expressions especially her eyes since it looks significantly larger. These two shots are probably one of the more decent ones, but her eyes are still larger, I don’t understand disney tend to make their characters looked weirder in the sequels especially if they ended up looking younger.

Now that I think about it her hair line must’ve done something too idk, but this was fun to do
Tumblr media
Edit: also its possible that they made her nose bigger, hence why they needed to make her eyes bigger, but when i was editing i ended up making her nose larger in my edits, so idk 🤷‍♀️
