Let’s not forget the reason behind Christmas. We are depraved sinners in great need of a Savior; without Christ, we would die under the curse of God’s wrath. By nature rebellious haters of God, we rightfully deserve His condemnation and judgment. And yet, out of His great love and mercy, God gave His begotten Son for those who shall believe in His Name. Despite the lingering ugliness of the flesh, those who would run to Christ and turn away from their sin would be declared righteous by God Himself before the divine tribunal. Not by one’s works, but by Christ’s alone. This is the beauty of Christmas: it is the story of a covenant-keeping God who, throughout generations, has never failed to fulfill what He has promised. He has provided a way for His chosen, and He will continue to protect and sanctify His people, until the time comes that He takes us home - spotless and blameless and fully conformed to His image. Rejoice, therefore, in the providence and grace of God. For you deserved death, and yet you were made heirs; you deserved judgment, and yet you were given mercy; you deserved wrath, and yet you have been clothed in the perfect righteousness of Christ.
