Our update on the Apple Pay phenomenon
For some time, we have believed mobile payments would change the way people pay for goods and services. Until very recently, the confusion in the marketplace was such that most consumers were wary and remained unconvinced this new technology would a) simplify the payment process and b) make that process more secure.
This article indicates that the advent of the Apple Pay system into the payments space has had a very real and measurable effect. While it is unclear whether the sample involved is based on only Smartphone users, or only Apple device users, it is clear that minds are changing and that retailers as well as other service providers are changing with them.
The inertia will, in our opinion, continue to be great and the percentage of the overall payments space will remain small for some time to come. Until then, and until all the lingering and still significant security issues are resolved, we expect payment cards, both credit and debit, will remain the tools of choice for the vast majority of US domestic consumers. Until that fact is reversed, we continue to advocate for the safe handling of those cards by carrying them in our #RFIDBlocking #CreditCardSleeves. Mobile payments technology leverages the same radio frequencies used for #ContactlessPayments with the cards you already carry; cards enabled for “Tap and Go” or “Wave to Pay” terminals found at many checkouts.
Our sleeves block the radio waves that arrive at the special chips, causing them to transmit your personal identifying information to the receiving device. Sometimes, those devices are rogues and unauthorized.
We truly believe our sleeves are” “The Secret to Keeping Your Data Where It Belongs!©”

CARMick Products Announces Market Launch of RFID-Blocking Folders
The management and staff of CARMick Products is excited about bringing to market another new product. Building on the success of its ID Preserver line of RFID-blocking sleeves and jackets, the newest addition comes in the form of a folder.
Unlike the sleeves and jackets, the Card ID Preserver Folders have no glued seams, so no amount of wear and tear will cause them to come apart like that. The folders will first be offered in a pack of five. Manufacturer’s Suggest Retail Price has been set at $25.99. Sales and promotions will run on an occasional basis and shoppers will be able to take advantage of lower prices at those times.
This new format is even closer to the actual size of a standard wallet card than the well-tailored sleeves currently offered. You can use each sleeve to protect one or more contactless wallet cards. For those who are so inclined, you can cut them to fit a wallet and use them as a lining. These are made of the same patent pending material as our Card ID Preserver sleeves and Passport ID Preserver jackets. As a result, they also block signals from NFC and BLE-capable devices.
As has been the case to date. CARMick Products will continue to focus its marketing and distribution efforts on the Amazon.com marketplace. The folders can be purchased from our product listing there.
We will have a full launch announcement in the next few days. There will be special launch prices and discount coupons as well.
Stay tuned! Tell your friends!
In the event this format appeals to you and you can wait a while, Amazon is currently accepting preorders for delivery to the USA. A limited number of items is also available for delivery from the CARMick Products office in Canada to locations there.
We remind all our customers of the fact that Identity Theft can occur anywhere; and in seconds! We strongly recommend carrying your cards in our sleeves or folders on a daily basis. Everyone deserves the protection these simple items can provide. Get some as gifts!

CARMick Products Explodes The Myth About Protecting Contactless Cards By Stacking We are always pleased about the fact our simple RFID Blocking sleeves and protectors address a real-world issue for people in their daily lives. In fact, some people believe they are not necessary at all. At CARMick Products, we are aware some people believe they can protect themselves from unauthorized scans of their payment cards and other RFID-enabled cards and documents by simply stacking them together. This short video demonstrates that is simply NOT the case. Other forms of protection are needed such as our Card ID Preserver sleeves and Passport jackets. We suggest strongly you should have a look. You will see people are profiting from the comfort of knowing their cards and passports are shielded from unauthorized scans. Be safe! Shield your payment and identification cards every day. It is our privilege to serve you and we look forward to doing so in the future.

Payments Industry And Banks Search For New Technical Solutions To On-Going Data Breaches
ComputerWorld recently published an article that provides a snapshot of the state of an on-going technical debate within the payments sector. Twenty-two banks are represented in a group pushing for wide adoption of “Tokenization” standards. These techniques help ensure the anonymity of data transferred as part of and stored at any point in the payments cycle between the purchaser and the issuing institution. This part of the solution is in addition to other key components like more secure payment cards.
It is a given of the process that the issuing institution will need to be able to associate the card number with the account holder. The issue that has led to many of the recent data breaches is that current standards call for and allow intermediaries to store the account number as well. The vast majority of the breaches are being perpetrated by accessing less-than=well-protected systems operated by these intermediaries.
The use of Tokenization would retain many of the current features of the payments infrastructure, allowing participation by multiple specialty players. They would be able to continue to accurately process purchases, refunds and other transactions. However, they would NOT store the actual card numbers. Thus, in the event their “tokenized” systems were compromised in the future, the thieves would obtain no useful or identifiable information.
While we expect some progress will be made and a minority of people will be able to abandon their wallet cards, we predict the cards will continue to be widely used by the general public for many years to come. Until these discussions can become real solutions, widely deployed in retailers nation-wide, at CARMick Products, we see complexity and confusion prevailing for the vast majority of consumers.
We expect this to will be the case, even if a move is made to go from magnetic stripe to the less sophisticated but STILL more secure EMV / PIN solution. We see people wanting to protect the RFID / NFC chips in the cards that will arrive, even if they choose to NOT use them. The fact our sleeves will also protect the EMV chip and the magnetic stripe from wear and tear are really additional value from an already inexpensive item.
Our 10-packs of Card ID Preserver credit card sleeves are always available on Amazon.com.
It is our privilege to serve you and we look forward to doing so in the future.

Mobile Contactless Payments Need The Smart in Smartphones
A post on the Banking technology site offers some insight into the technical foundations under review for the massive deployment of new mobile payments technologies. Simon Keates, a mobile payment security expert at Thales e-Security, cites the concerns and confusion that have led to years of delay in enhancing the security of payments in the USA. A contrast is provided between the physical security of a device such as an EMV chip and a logical implementation using a facility on a Smartphone such Host Card Emulation or HCE.
It illustrated the fact that discussion on this area is now moving due to the availability of the HCE technology and the impetus given by the most recent and on-going rounds of data breaches which have compromised the security of a significant number of cards and the related cardholders.
The article goes on to explain that “cloud-based” implementations have their own inherent risks since those systems would then become targets bearing the data of a large numbers of cards or accounts. That is shown to be no better than the current systems in the end for all the reasons related to the current data breaches.
Authentication is the key component in these schemes. The article provides details about the ways the phone’s location and proximity to other resources can be used to build confidence in the validity of a transaction request.
At CARMick Products, until these discussions can become real solutions, widely deployed in retailers nation-wide, we see the complexity and confusion prevailing for the vast majority of consumers. While some progress will be made and some people will be able to abandon their wallet cards, we predict the cards will continue to be widely used by the general public for many years to come.
We expect this to happen, even if a move is made to go from magnetic stripe to the less sophisticated but STILL more secure EMV / PIN solution. Mobile Contactless Payments Users To Number 300M In 2017
A report recently released by Juniper Research indicates they predict there will be 300 million users of mobile payments technology by the year 2017. That is still a far cry from the number of users of wallet card payment technologies, but it is a significant increase over the 100 million of 2013.
The report cites several reasons for the nearly three-gold increase, including the emergence of the HCE standard a possible “halo” effect from an successful launch of the Apple iWallet platform. It also indicates there is inertia and friction to overcome in order to achieve even those gains.
At CARMick Products, we conclude there will be continued complexity and confusion for the vast majority of consumers. While some progress will be made and some people will be able to abandon their wallet cards, we predict the cards will continue to be widely used by the general public for many years to come.
We expect this to happen, even if a move is made to go from magnetic stripe to the more secure EMV / PIN solution. As a consequence, we see people having to protect the RFID / NFC chips in the cards that will be issued, even if they choose to NOT use them. The fact our sleeves will also protect the EMV chip and the magnetic stripe from wear and tear are really additional value from an already inexpensive item.
Our 10-packs of Card ID Preserver credit card sleeves are always available on Amazon.com.

Mobile Payments with a Smartphone require an app
A slide show from Computerworld offers a primer on the various apps being used to complete mobile payments with Smartphones. There are variations and not all of them use NFC technology, but the message is clear: people want the convenience of being able to centralize their payment methods on one place.
Since a lot of people, especially younger ones, carry their phone everywhere and they are aware of the fact it can be used to make payments, the pressure builds on ALL retailers to offer a solution.
At CARMick Products, we continue to see complexity and confusion for the vast majority of consumers. While a specialized app used to pay at a location visited possibly multiple times a day can seem convenient in itself, overall, having 50 apps to pay at 50 retailers fails to excite most folks.
As a result, we expect wallet cards to continue in use for a number of years yet, even if a move is made to go from mag stripe to EMV / PIN. The consequence of that is that we see people having a need to protect the RFID / NFC chips in the cards that will be issued, even if they choose to NOT use them. The fact our sleeves will also protect the EMV chip and the magnetic stripe from wear and tear are really additional value from an already inexpensive item.
