What is the Geek Girl Project!?

Make sure to read the IMPORTANT paragraph at the end!  Fake nerd girl. You’ve all heard it at some point, some of you may have even been accused of it yourself. Lately being a geek and a female is something that has been debated and argued. From comic artist Tony Harris’ rant on facebook to Dirk Manning’s repost of a meme. You can hardly go to your favorite geek news site without seeing this debated. Now what does this mean to you and how does all this make you feel within a subculture that is known for taking in the widest variety of people and what they love? From Doctor Who to Dungeons and Dragons. This project is a way to show the world and the subculture that we love so much just who geek girls are. We are the girl next door, the daughter, wife, friend, the hot chick, the shy chick, we are just as diverse and complicated as the individuals in this world. There are no more fake nerd girls as there are fake nerd guys. There are posers in every subculture and I’m setting out today to show everyone out there that you can’t judge someone based solely on their looks. To do this I am setting up a photoshoot at The Comic Book Shop, Spokane Wa, 3207 N Division St on three separate days, morning and night, to make it more accessible for everyone! It’s a basic, come in what you normally wear and how you normally look every day, this way people can see that we really do come in all different shapes, ages, and styles . I would LOVE to get a least 50 females, whatever your age whatever you nerdism. There will be a basic full body shot with you holding a sign, that you can make yourself, with your nerdisms on it and a group photo at the end of the second day for everyone that can attend.*  Shoot dates available: Saturday January 19th @7:30 pm- 11:00 pm individuals Sunday January 20th @7:00 am- 11:00 am, then 6:00 pm -7:00 pm group shoot, and 7:00 pm- 11:00 pm individuals Monday January 21st @7:00 pm-11:00 pm  There will be a basic questionnaire that you will need to fill out. Asking what your interests are, the name you wish to be displayed with your picture, and how seeing all this rage against fake nerd girls and sometime females themselves affects you. This all will be public so remember that. Also there’s a chance there will be a video behind the scenes and interview segment of this. Please I know some people are really shy but this would be a great way to try something new and make some friends while you’re at it. Just gather up your courage and join!  This is a really personal project for me and I would not only love to see it succeed for the chance that it might help the geek community and the way females are seen within it. But also for the chance to build a very great community locally where females can come together and share their love for whatever their ‘nerdism’ is.  Please I am begging you share this with every lady you know in your life that has a passion for something geeky, it’s an open event. The most important aspect of this project is to help build a strong female geek culture here in Spokane, find new friends, and have a great time chatting and getting to know the people in your community. # Mun update

# Hey folks, friends and/or followers~ Just a update on me. Helps explain why I'm not really around...

Ooookay~ First. I miss all yous. A lot. It's kinda hard for me to lurk around and not be able to play. I feel like I'm on the wrong side of the fence on the playground. Toss me the ball sometime? I'll toss it back eventually, I promise.

Second, where the hell am I? Mostly, college. Then homework. Followed by mental decompressing. All of which may change with my internship starting up. 

The breakdown:

Taking 19 creds this quarter. Those of you who don't know, the max for a quarter-based university is 18. 

Taking the toughest class in my major. Learning about the theory, whats, and whys of operating systems isn't a skip through a field. Plus, my senior project.

Internship, probably going to take up 12-16 hours of time a week. May not seem like much, but when stacked on top of school, it's a little hefty.

Homework. 'Nuff said.

As far as college over all, I'm set to graduate in March and I plan to keep it that way.

Mental decompressing. I'm not going to lie, once I get done programming for hours, I don't really feel like typing some more. Weird, right?

Keeping my job at GameStop during weekends. Actually, a plus. I've dictated it my 'co-worker hang out time'.

The boyfriend needs attention too. Our comic nerd out time is rather important.

Trying to stay social. Keyword, trying.

I've got a stack of comics that only keeps increasing.*

Transformers: FoC needs to be played. I'm the biggest Transformer nerd you'll ever meet and I still haven't been able to finish my game.*

The last two could be interchanged with Tumblr quite easily, but I think I've explained whats up with me.

This is really a case of "It's not you, it's me." I've debated closing down shop but... Nah. I may be slow, but if you're patient with me, I shall get back to you. 

Admittedly, it's easier for me to get to the less lengthy posts. And for this reason, I am not a natural writer. (Seriously, why do you think I choose to program. Comes easier to me than English.) Everything that I've written that was good(-ish), was probably re-read by myself at least 15 times then edited and repeat. So with longer replies, it takes me a while. Just trying to keep it quality! Not that I don't with shorter posts. It just takes less time.

Anyways, that's the what up. Hope that helps explain where I'm at and why I'm not here. When I say I appreciate your patience, I really do mean it. I'm open to questions or comments if you have them.

Selina smiled curtly, "Thankfully, most people don't look up at the rooftops to notice." Her eyes continued to survey from behind her goggles, keeping the gun in her sights. She ignored the offer to sit and leaned against the wall, arms crossed over her chest.

"That's quite a mouthful..." She mumbled. "And what could the Supreme Headquarters International Espionage Law-enforcement Division want? I mean, you did mention alliance before. Mind elaborating?" Selina questioned curiously.

She peeked around, checking for the obvious wires or recorders that organized enforcement tended to be fond of. Once she was satisfied, Selina turned on a heel, facing the red-headed woman with hands on her hips. “So, what’s this about, Romanoff?”

I've already got programming assignments due. Overloading on credits is going to be the death of me. And my internship will make sure I don't get back up.
