I'm gonna say something that might be controversial to Fanfic writers but
If your fic is 30k words or longer then that, it needs to be broken into chapters. 20k is pushing it but is potentially fine.
Reason
If my page decides to refresh I will be spending at least 5 minutes looking for where I was up too.
It also kinda feels like it's more like a bot or person who copy pasted a fic from one site to another.
Reading a book or PDF that long and loosing your place is easier to find cause there's at least the page number or file number listed to find my location.
On AO3 if I'm not paying attention to where the scroll icon was then I'll have no clue and just have to scroll and stop periodically to find where I was
