let them be dumb fools thx. (baking cookies in which jing yuan is not doing much other than taste testing and using cookie cutters. dan heng is doing most of the work… they’re on the astral express. march and caelus keep pestering them for food. typical astral express crew banter ensues.)

The unfamiliar sight of the general of the Luofu trying (and failing) to crack an egg almost made dan heng burst out laughing.

Jing yuan turned towards the other presence staring deeply into the dark green eyes of the other in the room and adopted a grouchy face

“this was supposed to be a surprise; that’s why there was a do not disturb sign on the door..” the general states.

“i understand, but since the last incident you were banned from the kitchen unless you had supervision.” dan heng chuckles.

“that was caelus and march’s fault and you know it; now are you gonna just stand there or are you gonna help me.”

dan heng briskly walks over—eyes full of mirth—and places his head gently on his partner’s shoulder and wraps his arms around him, and takes the egg from the general’s hands. the archivist taps the egg against the counter, cracking it.

They both continue to work towards making there cookies (with an unhealthy amount of staring i mean come on guys the cookies are going to burn)

There cookies are eventually put in the oven they continue there conversation from earlier with Jing yuan continuing to blame march and caelus for the fire. whether it was the smell of the cookies or their names being spoken, march—followed by a much less hyper caelus—bust through the door.

March being March got bored of waiting for the cookies to be done and tossed a handful of flour at the other and creating a cloud of white powder while dan heng wanted nothing to do with it. jing yuan and Caelus immediately started fighting back (“to defend our honor.” caelus grumbles) causing more and more of the flour to rush into the air amidst the chaos, Jing yuan and Dan heng found themselves standing face to face, one covered in flour from head to toe. As they locked eyes, a mischievous smile formed on the general’s face. In that moment, he leaned in and shared a short and unexpected kiss with his lover, leaving their friends to their shenanigans. It was a lighthearted moment that dan heng didn’t expect.

There peaceful moment was stopped by the smell of something burning, and a disgruntled march ran to the oven, turning it off and opening it. forgetting put on gloves, she nearly burnt her calloused hands. she turns around, holding the slightly(very) burned cookies. She slowly backed out of the room amidst the chaos before turning and running Jing yuan quickly chased after her; while caelus and Dan heng sigh while wondering why they ever let the two of them in a kitchen together again.

*editor note: tbh march would have rlly nicely manicured nails but callouses bc she’s a bow and arrow user. plus a few frost burns imo bc she uses six phased ice. (from my beta reader who actually plays the game)
