SUS (2010) Review
Tumblr media
"OmG SuS LiKe tHe fUnNy AmOnG uS gAmE" -Sus is a 2010 British drama film directed by Robert Heath and starring Ralph Brown, Clint Dyer and Rafe Spall. It is set in a police station on the evening of the 1979 general election, where a black suspect is brought in and interrogated on suspicion of murder. It was written by Barrie Keeffe, adapted from his 1979 play with the same title, and takes its name from the sus law in operation at the time.
This movie is Brutal. There are only Three characters in the Entrie film, One of them is Black man and the over two are Conservative Racist To The Core policemen on the night Margaret Thatcher was elected Prime Minister. This movie Hurts to watch, but hurts more when you understand how Real it is, and how much of an effect the conservative party had on the United Kingdom.

Baby Reindeer (2024) Review
Tumblr media
I've never seen a more Accurate representation of SA I've ever seen in film or TV.
You won't fully understand it unless it were to happen to You. This wouldn't have been Anywhere as good if it were written by Anyone else.
Richard Gadd himself wrote it, making it the more Hard Hitting Baby Reindeer. since the stories based on the series Had happened to Richard Gadd, and he went on to Write it instead of Any other old writer.
And the fact he Played the role Himself, putting himself through All of that again for a series, Truly is Unremarkable.

holy shit tell me about the yard act music video lore!!!! that sounds awesome i haven’t looked into that at all but i’m sure it’s mega
Strap yourself in, I have a lot to say, I’m just going to cover from TCM to VFTN as it has the most coherent storyline, with the overload acting more as a setup for the universe the MVs take place in.
Right ok, so if you watch the MVs for trench coat museum as well as the where’s my utopia singles (plus vineyard for the north but I’ll get to that) it seems to follow the story of a group of conspirators looking to find “utopia” and the government/shady organisation trying to stop them.
Ok, so first we have Trench coat museum, which introduces our main protagonist, “the visitor” who seems to be hiding in the titular museum, which seems to possibly be some sort of base for the conspiracy, given that the visitor is able to get into the museum by having a barcode on her arm scanned (however the woman at the desk seems annoyed by this, so maybe she isn’t in on it). From here we’re also introduced to our two main antagonists, who (I shit you not) are called Dynamite Dave and Dudley Sunglasses, who are hitmen working to take down the utopia conspiracy on the orders of the government/the shady organisation (I’m inclined to say the government because in when the laughter stops, the police also seem to be against the conspiracy). DD and DS are seen at the end of the video, nearly catching the Visitor and forcing her to flee the museum.
One final note on the trench coat museum: we see Dr J Konopinski (a reporter working for “holy global enterprise” a media channel/cult who may actually be the shadowy organisation working against the conspiracy thinking on) in the museum as well, which confirms this takes place in the same universe as the videos from the overload as he is seen in them also.
Then we move on to Dream Job, which I have less to say about. Dr J Kon, seems to be giving what looks to be a propaganda piece for HGE with a catchy upbeat tone combined with lyrics talking about how you should accept and be happy with how the world has got worse (“welcome to the future the paranoia suits ya,”) to an audience of people who seem to be indoctrinated into this mindset, learning not to question what they’re told (“god knows what you’re talking about, but your eyes never lie when you look at me like that,”), which shows the power HGE has over the people of this world and why the conspiracy is searching for a utopia to hide from it. The video ends with Dr J Kon realising the visitor is a fugitive and ratting her out to the hitmen.
Then we have petroleum, which opens in the headquarters of the conspiracy, with what seems to be the leader giving a rant about how she knows utopia is out there and they just have to keep searching, showing that even though yhe world outside is a dystopia, those who can see that may be directing their efforts into folly rather than fighting back in ways that matter. However we do get one nice moment when the hitmen ask the band in the headquarters if they’ve seen the visitor, they don’t rat her out, although in the end this is all for nothing as the hitmen find the conspiracy, leading to a fight in which the visitor is dragged off.
We make hits is a funny one because it’s the backstory for our antagonists, Dynamite Dave and Dudley Sunglasses, showing how they were down on their look losers, subletting a flat, before becoming successful hitmen working for the shadowy organisation, I haven’t got much to say, it seems to take place before the other videos, being a flashback.
When the laughter stops takes place maybe a day or so after petroleum, with the visitor being thrown in jail with some clowns, who probably represent something but I’d need a whole other essay to try and figure that out. The woman running the jail seems to be the same woman who was fronting the TCM, although I can’t say for certain, which may imply she was the reason the Visitor was found in that video, being undercover for the shady organisation against the conspiracy. At the start of the video we also see on a TV screen showing the ending of the music video for 100% endurance, with the main character of that video (played by the amazing David Thewlis btw) playing a significant role in this one. The Visitor is helped to escape the jail with the clowns, as David Thewlis’ character recites Macbeth on the TV screen, distracting the woman on the desk so they can sneak out. The Visitor is picked up by the head of the conspiracy and they ride off to (assumidly) Utopia.
Up until now, I kind of assumed Utopia wasn’t real, being a metaphor for political idealism over direct action, however, this seem seems to be disproven in the last chapter of the story: Vineyard for the north, which takes place in Utopia. This song seems to be more of a symbolic happy ending for our character’s, with it being a more traditional MV, however as the song seems to be about making the best of situations and trying your best even if it isn’t perfect, we could maybe assume that Utopia itself wasn’t real and instead, our characters found a utopia by helping others to see how the dystopia they live in was hurting them and finding value in that community.
Anyway, sorry this was so long, I’ve barely even scratched the surface of some of the themes of the album as well as all of the stuff in the overload, maybe I’ll make a more articulate video essay on it one day.

A little vent I did with a bit of a happy ending (don't worry btw it's just nice to write about it)
I look into the mirror, and a tight knot is tied into my stomach. A bubbling starts in the depths of my gut and crawls up my body into my chest. It was very similar to how I felt when I got car sick on summer road trips as the feeling of throwing up grew inside me. The big difference is that it’s much more concentrated and there's a lower likelihood of throwing up. Much lower but not none. There was the obvious fact I’m quite fat or “chubby” if you didn’t want to be too blunt about it. Maybe I could deal with that if it was distributed more femininely, but I guess it makes sense why it wasn’t. My stomach bulged out, and the fat pushed out the side, messing up my back as well. There’s a unique torture in understanding you’re trans but not being able to do something about it. You have a need you can not fill. A hunger while the apple’s branch pulls upward every time you reach for it. Having no mouth and an intense need to scream. My family might be accepting, but there’s definitely the chance they’re not, especially with some things I’ve heard dad listen to. Even if I came out today and they embraced me as Kathrine fully, the next problem is the problem of money. The idea of insurance covering HRT is almost laughable, and even with how it would improve my well-being, it would be selfish to ask for it while we have more pressing payments and medical problems. Just two more years, I suppose. Two more years of hating the name everyone but my friends call me. Two more years of cuddling in my bed pretending to be a pretty girl to soften the blow of reality. Two more years of feeling like a creep when I imagine myself as that girl. Two more years of making social media accounts under Kat to feel any amount of euphoria. Two more years of telling my friends to call me that horrible name around my parents. Two more years of hiding my google searches and YouTube recommendations from my family. Two more years of hating every atom of me when my grandma calls me a nice young man or a fun boy. Two more years of writing stupid words in a google doc to vent. Two more years sound like a long time when you put it like that, but I've been doing this for a while, and a lot changes when you take a different perspective. Two more years till I can tell everyone to call me Kat. Two more years till I can take the magic blue pill to feel more like me. Two more years with great friends that help me. Two more years to save up money to not only be able to buy HRT but hopefully much more. Two more years of getting better at writing. Only two more years till I can be me.

"Where's My Utopia?"- Yard Act (2024)
Tumblr media
Teased towards by their 2023 single "The Trench coat Museum", Released on Friday the 1st of March 2024, Yard Act's "Where's My Utopia?" This LP arguably Shits on their 2021 LP "The Overload", Taking a Massive jump from their Spoken-Word Post Punk, Politically-Fuelled songs to not only Keeping these previous aspects, but also Adding on So much more, such as their Funky Pop/New Wave Influences, their ambitious, uplifting storytelling, mixed with Heartfelt messages about Life Issues and Moving on from Past Mistakes, focusing on pushing on to a Bettered Future.
It's hard picking what are the Best songs on the LP, but I would say the most notable tracks on this LP are ones such as "We Make Hits" "Dream Job" and the first half of "An Illusion" which all have more Positive Focuses in their songs. While tracks such as "When the Laughter Stops" "Down by the Stream" and "Grifters Grief" have more Pessimistic views towards them, yet with Funky baselines in the background and New Wave inspired instrumentals, making for a Fantastic Mix, and managing to create a kind of sound in music that I have Never heard from another artist before.
And finally, with tracks such as "The Undertow" "Blackpool Illuminations" and "The Vineyard of the North" tying the album together with their Mellow Monotone, Poetic spoken-word tracks, laced with a foreign feeling of nostalgia, truly making this one of the Greatest albums of the Year so far.
In Short; Yard Act have once again Out-Done themselves, and we Fucking love them for it.
