// New Horizon [Kaito x Ryoko, Red Hair Pirates]

Kaito woke up to find Ryoko not next to him in bed, and while usually he'd let her be, there was a sense of unease he got from her this past week, like she was lost and just wandering aimlessly. That fiery conviction he always loved about her; it was at its dimmest ever, barely keeping her going through the usual motions.

She could already read his mind without him saying a word, their bond stood strong through their partnership, and drame from thier pasts.

"Then let me try to help you with that noise, Silent," he replied, then put up a sound barrier around them with his Calm Calm Fruit as he hugged her from her side. He consumed the fruit to help with his intel gathering for Shanks, but it became just another tool for him to use to secure his privacy with Ryoko at times.

"Ryoko, we started then grew under Shanks this whole time. It's still hard to believe that there would be a day when he'd just leave to do his own thing and trust us with the territories under his protection," he admitted. Although they had added responsibilities now, Ryoko had her own crew under her command; however essentially, they had reached a point where even her leadership was no longer mandatory to keep things in check.

The whole fiasco with Wano from him, and the Kazangan Kingdom from her after. Kaito and Ryoko's relationship withstood the challenges of their pasts, for they to finally be married for a while now. They were going through peaceful times, despite the chaos in the world, which was too far away for them to be involved. They were only to take action if any of Shanks' territories were in danger, a rule they followed since the beginning. Kaito's goal now more than ever, was to commit to his vows and make sure his wife was happy, well at least content.

"So I think it is time, do you want to start a family with me, Ryoko?" he proposed to her. Kaito could easily just suggest it as their next step, but he had to make sure she wanted it too. If she didn't give him an answer straight away, it would at least give her something to think about, something to distract her from the chaotic noise in her head.

The sea was too calm, too quiet. It wasn't the first time it'd been like this, but it was the first time in a long time that it felt so present, so large, so immense.

Ryoko draped a blanket over her shoulders before walking across the deck and leaning on the railing. The night was so dark that the stars could barely illuminate the sea. The crew members were calm: those who weren't reading in their cabins were training in the lower part of the ship, or finishing a late-night snack.

She didn't have to turn around to know it was Kaito who had approached; his presence alone was comforting, even after all the obstacles in their path.

"I'm sorry, I'm fine" she mentioned almost in a whisper, as if she was afraid that her voice might break the tranquility of the place. "It's just that... ever since Benn brought me to the crew, my goal was to support Shanks in his search. Then my brother appeared and Kazangan joined my goal... Now Shanks and the crew have gone after the One Piece, Kazangan is rebuilt and operating perfectly... I feel like I don't have a goal, I don't have a horizon to go towards, to advance towards..."

Letting out a somewhat heavy sigh, she laughed softly moments later. "I'm sorry, love, my mind is very noisy tonight"

Instead of prior crew members, the Revolution Army (including my Sabo) rescues or recruit them into the RA.

“I see,” Kaito gave her a slight nod. It was thoughtful of her. As annoyed at Sabo as he was, Kaito knew he was doing important things for their sake, as Chief of Staff. Sabo sometimes couldn’t afford to get dragged down by paperwork, especially if it was anything time-sensitive. Behind his goofiness, there was that hidden burden of him carrying the weight of the safety of the Revolutionary Army, because he cared for all the staff like family.

Celestia joined the Revolutionary Army around the same time as Kaito did, chances are that she knew him best at a professional level, she was one of the rare people who he actually listened to. Kaito could be impatient at times, taking on other people’s work so they weren’t behind on intelligence updates for their higher ups.

“Thanks, I appreciate it,” he added gratefully as he started sorting through Sabo’s papers on his desk. It was a mess as always. But through that, he got a vague idea of what Sabo was doing, and while it seemed Kaito was cleaning after him, it also implied that Sabo trusted him enough with the information revealed by going through his desk.

“Is that what the others are saying?” Kaito asked Celestia as he looked up from the papers, making eye contact with her. Despite her staying professional, he could sense a hint of worry; it would be rude to deny it. “You may be right. So, in your professional opinion, what do you suggest I do?”

If it were anyone else, he could easily ignore them. But she specialised in psychological warfare, and by extension the mental health of those she worked with. It was only a matter of time before burnout would catch up to Kaito and cause him to make a costly mistake or collapse out of exhaustion, but he was just too stubborn to admit it. Why someone had to tell him instead for him to take action.

“Thanks, Celestia,” Kaito replied, appreciative that she got him coffee, since he really needed it. Sabo had rushed off somewhere again, leaving him with more paperwork and another ‘I owe you’ note.

“When you have the time, could you organise the papers in my office? Grouping them by category will do,” he requested. Kaito, as an Intelligence Officer for the Revolutionary Army, his primary job was to gather and analyse information for his superiors to make the best decisions. But first, he had to clean up after Sabo again in his office, as he pretty much became his assistant through his mentorship.

"No, you're home early, and as suspicious as ever," Kaito replied as he walked in, bringing in his katana and polearm after weapons training. He was tired and figured he could rest early in his room, but was reminded of how it was shared with his roommate, forced to keep his secret while continuing to let him do as he pleased.

Great, looks like asking about his ambitions struck a nerve, but at least he had his answers. Kaito did not expect everyone to join for honourable reasons to secure the peace of the world, but Kurapika just admitted that he was just using the ranks of the Marines to look for these ‘Scarlet Eyes’ as a vigilante. He should really report him to the higher ups, use this fool as a stepping stone even, but the feeling did not last.

“Alright, I understand.”

Kaito could sense the killing intent, he’d be dead if he got in his way. This was a polite warning on his part. Just his luck, he was rooming up with a maniac

So he hated pirates, at least they had that in common. “I guess we can both agree that pirates are scum,” Kaito spoke, and once he was asked in return, he honestly didn’t feel like answering anymore. He could tell Kurapika wouldn’t care either, so he kept things generic.

“My hometown was taken over by pirates, and we were forced to supply them with what we had, until the Marines freed us. So that is why I joined, so I can do the same for those less fortunate than me,” Kaito answered. If it were any other person, he would go on a patriotic rant about how great the Marines were.

A soft nod of his head was Kurapika's response to the other's conditions. Well, if they both respected their own place, maybe he could come to tolerate the situation over time, the blonde thought.

However, when the other man asked his question, Kurapika's eyes opened a little wider, almost, almost revealing that white space at the top of his sclera. That was why Kurapika was wearing his black contact lenses. His eyes behind them began to glow in a deep scarlet color. A characteristic for which everyone in his clan had been killed.

"If we're going to be roommates I'll tell you. I'd rather answer your questions than have you snooping through my stuff" A pause, Kurapika sighed softly although his scarlet eyes were still activated. "I'm looking for the Scarlet Eyes, and the Marines' connections will bring me closer to them. Besides, I hate pirates, and being here will allow me to give them what they deserve without explanation. Any other questions?" Kill them, Kurapika clearly meant killing that group of pirates who massacred his clan to tear out their eyes.

"I hope you have the minimum reasoning ability to understand what it means that I have given you this information" With his judment gaze on the other man, Kurapika hoped he understood that he was going to kill him without thinking and in cold blood if he said anything to their superiors.

"Why did you join?" Not that he really cared.

// Recruit Roommates [Marine Kaito & Kurapika]

Kaito was optimistic when first joining the Marines, though he was paired up with Kurapika for training, who obviously had his own agenda with using the system after getting it. He didn’t like it, but it was none of his business.

Until they were roomed up together, they couldn’t be more opposite.

“Don’t worry, I won’t,” Kaito reassured him about the cabinet, he wouldn’t have anyway. Ironically that just gave it more attention, making him wonder what was inside.

“I understand, I guess those are my own conditions too,” he replied. If Kurapika had been nicer, he wouldn’t have said it in turn, but it was only fair that they both have the same rules regarding each other’s things and noise.

“Why did you join the Marines?” he asked Kurapika. Kaito joined because the Marines freed his hometown from pirates that took over, and so looked to them as his heroes. He doubted his roommate had such an ambition in mind, but depending on his answer, it might be a way to get a new better roommate.

After a long time of research, but above all, observation and analysis, Kurapika found the necessary information to know that the Marine was not as pure as they wanted to be seen, in fact, there was a whole black market going on beneath them in which they were clearly also involved.

And if it is about the black market and highly valuable transactions, there had to be at least a few pairs of Scarlet Eyes around there. Maybe bought by themselves for the huge sum of money they meant, or simply confiscated from pirates… or maybe both.

Kurapika trained enough to be accepted into the Marine, then, once inside, he could have a better view of the situation and get back them. What he was sure of, was that he was going to need a lot of money to bring some back.

What he didn't expect, was to be admitted into the Marine together with another recruit. Kurapika sighed softly, it's okay, they'll probably have them train together and that kind of thing, it shouldn't be that hard to bear. But what he didn't expect was that they would also make him share a room.

This is going to be a problem. He thought to himself. How many chances did he have that the other man wouldn't butt in? He would have to pretend all day that he really wanted to be there and that he was an honorable Marine so as not to raise suspicions.

"Don't touch anything in this cabinet" A sharp, judging look fell on the other when he finished organizing his things in the small cabinet. Not because he had anything incriminating in there, but small, precious memories of his family that was no longer with him.

His whole life was reduced to a simple suitcase, so the room was too big for him. "You can use everything else, I don't need it, just don't touch my things and don't be loud, those are my conditions. Do you understand?" His hazel eyes (hidden by his black contact lenses) fell on the other man, analyzing every expression, analyzing every movement of his to try to get information from him.

"I know right?" Hiroshi agreed, happy to make more allies, especially finding one that just fell in love with him without any judgment.

"Good, that we are both second in command," Kaito replied, relieved at least they could find a solution to their captains joining their pirate crews so spontaneously.

"Then let us be thorough with our conditions, our cremates are not exactly criminals, but we would steal without mercy if the situation called for it," he added in warning, Kaito would take his time with Julia to finally agree on a contract for the pirate captains to sign.

"Nah, just more friends!" Kishi replied with a giggle, practically swooning over the male pirate. Meanwhile the strawberry blonde was face palming before sighing and approached Kaito since her Captain still seemed distracted by the other.

"I probably have the only brain on this entire ship and am the second in command and navigator. My name is Julia. Apologies about my Captain, she can get very distracted when it comes to finding...love." she grumbled a bit, "We haven't come up with conditions but if you wish, I could help with coming up with some. First, we may call ourselves pirates but these guys would never steal even a penny from a child let alone anything else."

// Noise Canceller [Kaito & Nozomi] - Part 2 [FIN]

"Yeah," Kaito affirmed to Nozomi gently., empathising with her over the noise. Their crews really went all out with the celebrations, it was not something he'd stick around for the entire time either, he was not a party person unlike the rest who stayed.

"You're welcome, and to be honest, I would too if I stayed there longer," he admitted, getting comfortable next to her, her words put him at ease. "I don't mind, we can stay like this as until the noise dies down enough."

Kaito closed his eyes and just rested, his devil fruit did block out the noise, but the lights from the fireworks were still there, but fortunately they were sitting at an angle that the light was mostly blocked out, it wouldn't bother him in the long run.

By the time Kaito had arrived, Nozomi had already curled over in pain, covering her ears as best she could, although the sound vibrations through the air were still hitting her like a thousand stabs. But from one moment to the next, almost like a silent punch, everything had fallen silent. A ringing in her mind still sounded due to her numb ears.

Little by little—with an unfounded fear that if she uncovered her ears the noise would return—Nozomi slowly removed her hands from her ears. "Kaito?" She whispered, her ears hurt and she was afraid of screaming so she preferred to speak in a low voice "I still feel a ringing in my ears, but it's much better this way… thank you very much, I thought I would lose my mind with the noise" She smiled softly

"Your heart sounds a little worried, it's okay, I feel better now, could we stay like this until the noise stops, please?"
