Colin tries his hardest not to throw Vince a familiar unimpressed look. Vince is and always was a flirt. Once upon a time, Colin absolutely loved it. Jokes and flirtatious banter that lit the edges of his finger tips, always encouraged a boyish grin to curve across his lips, and caused his eyes fall down to where his own cigarette had just been. It didn't feel quite the same, now. It almost annoyed Colin and the comment quickly reminds Colin of all of the things - the things that fucking sucked - that happened between them. Distance, he reminds himself. Keep it.
"Personal touch?" Colin echoed with feigned confusion, perking a brow at Vince. He doesn't take another drag from his near new cigarette but instead extends it back to Vince. His other hand reaches down to his front pocket to take out his cigarette case again.
Tumblr media
Vincent’s voice startles Colin Creevey in the daze that he is in and it visibly shows in the way his head snaps up. For a split second, the Gryffindor looks like a deer in headlights. The look quickly dissipates once he registers who it is, shifting into what seemed to be a small but rather relaxed smile to any outsider. Maybe Vince buys it, maybe he doesn’t.
“After realizing I look good doing it,” Colin says solemnly as his hands removes themselves from the camera to let it hang around his neck.
After a moment, Colin adds, “And after realizing there were wizarding brands that exist that don’t taste as shit as Marlboros,” though his voice falls a little flat at the end. Colin could hear Vince’s words in his own voice, reprimanding the Slytherin repeatedly once upon a time. Though Colin never quite hated it when Vince did take his constant smoke breaks. Colin's bright blue eyes flicker over Vince’s familiar face briefly before reaching over to steal the cigarette back from the older boy and taking a drag. Colin’s gaze falls forward a moment after.

The moment that Colin had stepped foot onto the familiar cool pavement of the Aurelius grounds, something felt strange. There was nothing particularly strange when he entered the school. Nothing seemed out of place. It felt like a dream, one of those dreams where it was simply so mundane and day-to-day, that it must be real. Though, in those very dreams, something would felt off. Not right.
It was when Colin had stepped into the Great Hall with Dennis Creevey and a few other friends, where the large crowds of tense students and the staff were, that it made sense. That there was no question that there, in fact, was something wrong. Unfortunately, this was no dream. With Albus Dumbledore dead, Severus Snape took his place and Colin felt a very uncomfortable twist in his stomach. A gut feeling that signified that there was going to be much to come this school year and it was not going to be sunshines and rainbows.
Or hey. Maybe, it was just Colin’s anxiety. Today was the start of the term festival and Colin had just escaped from the Viaduct courtyard. Too many students were there and he had done his due diligence for the Aurelius Tribune and snapped a few shots and collected a few story ideas with direct student input. It was the least Colin could do, knowing he would inform Draco in the next week, that he wasn’t going to be continuing with the Aurelius Tribune. He’d disappointed the older boy more than enough last Spring, with his declining efforts in his written work, and he didn’t want that to continue. With the hallways empty, Colin pulled out a silver cigarette case from his pockets. This was a gift, from one of his older romances from early in March, with a fortune that would have allowed Colin and his loved ones to live lavishly the rest of their merry life. It was quick, one-sided for the most part, and Colin was not the one hurt in that relationship. Rather, he was prized with that stunning cigarette case that cost more than every material item in his childhood home combined. It was adorned with a custom engravement of his initials and a beautiful hummingbird, and it was accompanied with a plethora of cigarettes that tasted like delicious sweet whiskey. He had only started smoking after receiving this present and hadn’t stopped since. Though, he had a preference to keep this new habit quiet. Colin pressed the cigarette between his lips as he strode down the hallways, lighting it with the tip of his wand. He was heading in the opposite direction of the Viaduct courtyard, towards the Aurelius Greenhouse. His fingers were clicking through the photos he had taken on his camera and while he had been historically very prideful of his work, at least in the years before the last, his thoughts were quite hypercritical this time around. Though to anyone else, they would look like pretty damn good photos. Colin exhaled the smoke but his eyes remained focused on the screen, his brows furrowed slightly. He was hardly paying mind to his surroundings. Despite that, he managed not to trip over anything or bump into any hard surfaces. Although, he didn’t notice a certain old lover appearing in the very same hallways in his distracted state.
Stepping back onto Aurelius grounds felt like something out of a fever dream. Sweat-slicked and clothes clinging to Vincent's sunburnt skin, he and other schoolmates filed into the castle, the last remnants of summer upon them as they began yet another school year.
With Dumbledore gone, tension was thick in the air, surrounded by uncertainty about what would happen next now that Severus Snape was headmaster. And what a wild thought that was, Vincent thinks--Snape was headmaster, Gaunt was Minster for Magic, and werewolves were at the center of every story printed in the papers as of late. It was like waiting for a bomb to go off and Vincent was quite sure he would somehow end up in the middle of the crossfire when it finally did.
The summer holiday spent in Romania for his dragonology apprenticeship has left Vincent wondering if he should have returned to Aurelius at all. Time amongst the dragons was grueling work, given the injuries on his hands, but it was rewarding all the same. If it wasn't for the apprenticeship and a pit stop in Australia, the bearded dragon tucked away inside Vincent's cloak, burrowing into the crook of his neck, wouldn't be with him now. Vincent found himself yearning to be back there, but studies, apparently, came first.
The start of term speech ends, students and staff alike departing and scattering among the castle as they see fit. Vincent trails off into the Viaduct Courtyard, hand hovering close to his right shoulder to keep Luther close. He scans the crowd with a bored gaze, popping the gum in his mouth with a plan to head down to the lake, but a familiar sight catches his eye.
Colin Creevey.
Vincent watches him for a quiet moment, gaze lingering as the other man strode across the courtyard, camera in hand, pointer finger clicking away. Guilt pools at the base of Vince's stomach and sits there like a weight the longer he stares at Colin.
The one that got away, Vincent laments with a sigh. Their--what should he call it? Their relationship didn't last long. Vincent spent most of his younger years teasing and bullying, Colin being just another target until the teasing turned into flirting and the bullying turned into kissing. After one too many nights, the realization that it could have turned into something more, something softer, it scared the hell out of the both of them.
So why did Vincent find himself approaching him? "I've never seen you smoke before," He pries the cigarette from Colin's unsuspecting lips, putting it between his own as he takes a drag. "Smoking isn't good for you, y'know," Vincent tuts, blowing the sweet smoke into Colin's, and the camera's, face. "It's a bad habit," he rolls the cigarette between his two fingers, recalling the same words that were spoken to him again and again, chastising him for his chosen vice. Vincent pops the cigarette back into his own mouth and it dangles from his lips when he asks, "When'd you pick up smoking?"

task four / time waits for no one
like a thousand golden urns pouring out of the sun
HOW have the new ministry happenings and the attacks during the time jump affected your character?
CC: It’s been tough for him. In combination with his close friends being impacted directly by the attacks and ministry changes, he’s been extremely nervous about his family and with the changes happening in the ministry. He’s extremely distrustful about what’s been happening and it’s pushed him to train more aggressively and to be prepared for the absolute worst in the case that danger approaches him or his family. He’s been dealing with insomnia and night terrors from unaddressed stress.
RTD: Anxious but has been taking this time to keep in close touch with her friends and loved ones. She has been speaking about her anxieties quite openly with her mother and has been immersing herself in her hobbies to distract herself from the fear that she feels. Talking about it has been helping her a lot and she definitely feels comfortable sharing her feelings with those that are open to talking about it.
DID any of the disappearances or attacks involve someone your character knew?  CC: Yes, Colin is very close to Cormac.  RTD: Renee did not really know them.  Though possibly, had a hookup with Cormac?
HOW did your muse react to the news that their classmates ( aster, cormac, flora, hestia, mori, and pansy ) were attacked? were they concerned to learn of aster’s coma? did they go to visit aster or cormac in st. mungos during the months they were there
CC: Colin was horrified about the attack which caused him to spiral a little. Particularly the news about Cormac made him see red since he’s so close and cares for Cormac as much as he does. He visited Cormac pretty frequently and came with a plethora of shitty jokes to make his friend laugh to the best of his ability. Though while he smiled in the hospital room, he was riddled with anger and fear.
RTD:  Renee had a crush on Aster when she was younger and while her opinion changed about him when he grew older, it was tough to hear the knew. She debated on visiting Aster for a while and eventually did for a short amount of time. It was hard for her to see. She did visit Cormac once, though, and brought him sweets.
DID your muse have any connection to the carrow sisters? what was their reaction to flora and hestia’s tragic passing? CC: Colin did not know them but caused him to realize that they weren’t untouchable.  RTD: Renee knew them through others and it was extremely disheartening and it made her quite sad.
WHAT are some notable things that your character did over the time jump? any big events? did they have a birthday? CC: Stole a few high-level and unnecessarily expensive defense against the dark books from the magical bookstore.  He learned how to counter an  anti-theft charm at a pretty notable shop that summer which spoke for the work that he’d been putting into his magical abilities.    RTD: Renee had a birthday in May. Her mother, as tradition went, sent her a delicious cake decorated with edible flowers. Renee did her best to enjoy it among all that’s been happening. Other than that, nothing notable.
WHAT did your muse do over the summer?  CC: Overworking himself. Constant practice, feelings of inadequacy no matter how objectively good he is getting in magic, feeling like it’s never good enough. He’s been colder, steering clear from romance, almost isolating himself except when he was seeing Cormac in the hospital. There have been very meaningless flings (at least to him) during that time as a lot of the focus has been on the happenings in the ministry and Dumbledore’s death. He’s even been distanced from his mother and Dennis and that doesn’t help the fear that he feels. Ideally, when the school year starts, there is someone there to help coax the words outo f him.  RTD:  She’s been feeling a little down in her romantic relationships, where things seemingly seem that they’re going to work out and then they don’t. Went on dates during the summer but with an open heart and open mind. Though even with being let down, she’s still patient. It’s just been a tough few months and so her home’s studio is littered with new paintings where she’d been dabbling with different paint styles and immersing herself in new literature. Hobbies, hobbies, hobbies.
WHAT'S your character’s stance on werewolves now, after all of the happenings and attacks over the past year? CC: Colin doesn’t have any disdain towards werewolves as a whole and he recognizes that this is an issue with the establishment and that there’s something strange with the WIPD.  His fight or fight is off the radar regardless of there’s a werewolf or witch or any other creature in his or his loved ones vicinity if he senses there is danger especially after the attack targeting Cormac.  RTD: She gets a little anxious about the idea of being around them but immediately feels a sense of guilt afterwards when she has those thoughts. She doesn’t think werewolves are any more or less evil than wizards but just the heightened awareness along with family in her ear has made the negative perception of werewolves more prevalent. Though, she tries to challenge those thoughts.
WHAT was your character’s reaction to the news that dumbledore was missing? what about when it was revealed that he died? CC: Terrified. Dumbledore, above anyone else, felt untouchable. While Colin doesn’t show his fear as much, it shows in his desperation to be better and his more frequent panic/anxiety attacks in tandem with some difficult depressive spirals.  RTD: She was very, very sad to hear about Dumbledore's death and alongside that, frightened, but loss wasn’t particularly new to her and her perspective on it and how Dumbledore’s journey wasn’t at its end helped ease the grief felt. Nonetheless, Renee is incredibly uncomfortable with what this signified overall in the magical world and the myriad of what she suspected would be negative changes that were going accompany his untimely death.

Renee caught it there. Just a flash of Eddie's nerves tangled together with his subtle softness. For a moment, just a moment , the young witch thought about abandoning the very plans that she spent the last few weeks conjuring up for Eddie and doing something else. Something different.
"My father," were the words that fell out of her lips. The Gryffindor looked a little surprised at the confession but all the while, her words were not rushed. Renee smiled sheepishly and shrugged.
"He loved flowers. My mother always told me stories and showed me photos of the garden they grew together." Her cheeks were turning a faint shade of pink, as though she was slightly embarrassed about sharing this story suddenly with Eddie. "I wear flowers so much because it's like I'm carrying a piece of him wherever I go. Silly, I know, as I hardly remember him but — “ Renee shrugged once more with same sheepish smile on her lips.
Tumblr media
Perhaps it was because he was mostly surrounded by liars, or just simply students who thought it would be funny to watch him suffer a little, but Eddie did have a slight doubt behind all those nerves, and it showed with the momentary squint of his eyes before it was all washed away with her smile.
He took a short inhale before speaking again. "Well, at least one of us knows what's going on." He couldn't help his eyes wandering down to her frame, only for a second before meeting her eyes again. "Have you got a cute flower sewn in every piece of clothing you own?" He leaned in a little, almost as if he wanted to touch the fabric of the sleeve of her top, but instead he kept his hands in his pockets.

"Of course I wouldn't."
In response to the inquiries that followed, Renee bit down on her lip. Though, despite the nerves that she felt, there was a teeny tiny glint of mischief, encased with excitement, in her eyes. At the same time, her fingers twitched by her side as she fought the growing temptation of touch when Eddie tucked his hand away in his pocket.
"You'll just have to wait and follow my lead, hm?" Renee said with a raise of her brow and tilt of her head, curls bouncing with the movement. "I'm kind of great at planning things."
Tumblr media
Eyebrows knitted together into a frown, almost in disbelief at her words. "You wouldn't..." Whether she realized it or not, Renee knowing his weakness (among many) that was his lactose intolerance was already much more information about Eddie than most people knew. Not that he kept them a secret. Most of his issues were easy to notice if someone would pay a little more attention. Either way, joking about it might've been the best way to not make it such a big deal.
"So, um--" He said after a while, tucking his hands into his pockets since he didn't really know what to do with them. "What are we doing, then? You kept it all a secret, I didn't know what to prepare for."

It should've been easy for Renee to catch how nervous Eddie was. Especially with the way her seemingly attentive eyes were tracing over the soft curves and crevices of the Slytherin's face. Though, the young witch had a flurry of anxious thoughts in her own mind, trying to run through a million mental notes of the day to come - all while simultaneously keeping her eyes on Eddie's warm gaze, her ears on his familiar voice, and her attention off of the quiet but forceful thumping in her chest.
"You've never feared me slipping any double cream into the treats I’ve made for you?" Renee asked Eddie with playful skepticism, but her voice fell a little uneven at the end. Nerves, nerves, nerves.
Tumblr media
In that moment, it was truly the scariest thing known to him. He hated how he winced at the sudden unexpected voice beside him, and he slowly closed his eyes afterwards, trying to fight off the rush of embarrassment that came over him. "Don't-- do that!" He said through gritted teeth, though any and all upset feelings faded away as soon as his eyes laid upon her, softening at the sight of her smile. And he was yanked right back to telling himself that he really should've brought flowers.
Eddie let silence fall between the two of them while he battled the loud thoughts inside his head. His shoulders pulled up involuntarily as if he was trying to hide his exposed neck from something, but he forced it down after a moment. "You're not." He blurted out. Imagining little daisies stuck in her curls definitely made it easier to speak. "...Scary, I mean. Quite the opposite, actually."

"Boo - " said the scariest thing known to Edward Potter.
And obviously, the scariest thing known to Eddie Potter was a beaming Renee Turpin-Desanges, with a soft hand plopped on top of his shoulder, looking all dolled up with a cropped dusty rose, lantern-sleeved top embroidered with little floral detail and a pair of light jeans and white sneakers. There was a clear juxtaposition to Eddie's dark, dark sweater. Though, together, they complemented each other very much. When Renee saw Eddie's face, which looked very riddled with nerves, in the light for a moment, she couldn't help but laugh lightly before offering the Slytherin an apologetic smile. "I didn't realize I was so scary," Renee murmured with a gentle, teasing note in her voice. "I'll be better for the rest of the day. Promise."

closed starter for @sing-omuse - renee !! location: outside the great hall after dinner
He felt like he was going to throw up. And it was for a stupid reason too. When was the last time he was nervous about a date? Was it the fact that this thing had been brewing for months now? Was it because he wasn't even the one to make the first move? Was it because it happened to be on this specific day? He didn't know. He didn't want to know. Thinking about it just tied about thirty knots in his belly. He didn't know what they were going to do. And he was totally overthinking it. He even put his cleanest (and darkest) sweater on. He fixed his hair as he waited outside the doors to the great hall, playing with the little red heart-shaped chocolates in his pocket. He was beating himself up on not bringing flowers in one moment, than in the other he was psyching himself up, saying that it was fine, he could always just conjure some. "--just got to remember the proper incantation." Oh, he needed a cigarette...

LOCATION: GREAT HALL / CAFETERIA
STATUS: OPEN TO ANYONE
The past few weeks felt like a blur and at the same time, Colin felt like he had been dragging his feet through mud. There was a constant sense of loneliness that weighed over him but as the months neared the holidays, there was a light at the end of the tunnel that Colin could catch in his peripherals.
He was getting to see his family. His Mum and Dennis. The latter, a core reason why this semester had been so difficult, was home, recovering from a Muggle sickness. And the light was that Dennis was getting better and that Colin would be able to see his younger brother for the holidays.
As the holidays neared, Colin sat in the Great Hall of Aurelius. It was quieter today, with some people already gone for the holidays while others were too busy preparing and packing to go home.
It was clear that Colin was in a better mood than he had been in months, simply from how he looked. slightly oversized maroon Christmas sweater - which was a difficult find considering his lankiness - slightly flushed cheeks and freshly washed and dried hair that hadn’t been styled yet. Today, and for the first time in months, Colin Creevey looked a few years younger.
On the cafeteria table, he had a steaming cup of apple cider in a mug resting on the top. And what Colin was doing at that very moment was writing the very Christmas cards for his loved ones back home. He was so focused, he didn’t notice anyone that was approaching him.

Renee listened as Eddie explained why he enjoyed curse-breaking. It wasn't her forte, not in the slightest, as the only classes she took associated with the subject were usually the classes that she had to take. Surely, she enjoyed Defense Against the Dark Arts and classes that aimed towards protecting against certain curses but was never one that dived into the specifics of the work. That's why they had curse breakers, after all - to do the work for them if it came down to it.
Though, Renee liked the way that Eddie explained it -- because as he did, it made sense. It made sense for him, at least. It was a reminder that he was very much a Potter, just in his own Eddie way.
"And are you enjoying it so far?" Renee asked Eddie with a slight tilt of her head and added with a slightly teasing note, "Something you think you'd want to be doing when you're near senile?"
In response to Eddie directing the question back to her, she smiled and nodded her head. "Yes," Renee confirmed simply, as she gestured to her painted cauldron. "
Tumblr media
"If you tell anybody, I'm going to deny it." Not like anybody would care about his interests. If someone wanted to bother him, they would've found a billion other things to mock about him other than his interests.
He glanced away at her next question, not quite so sure as to how he should answer it. "...No." He said after a while with a shrug. He paused, only for a couple of seconds before he felt a surprising urge to keep talking. "I enjoy dissecting things. Not-- not like, living things. I chose my specialization because it is meticulous work. Breaking curses means studying them, what they're composed of, how they work, every little detail. So... yeah. That's fun." He cleared his throat. "And you?"

Renee's eyes wandered around Eddie's face, doing her best to hold back a widening smile as she caught the way that his cheeks were faintly tinged with pink with his embarrassment. She also suppressed the urge to pinch his cheeks. In that moment, she was quite endeared by the youngest Potter.
"It is pretty bloody cool," Renee confirmed with a solemn nod. The classroom was getting louder but the two were in a comfortable corner of the room so it didn't disrupt much of the flow of their conversation.
"But you're still a big nerd. Just like me." There's a pause. "Do you like creating anything else? Outside of potions?"
Tumblr media
His head tilted to the side with a smile of surrender. "Not everybody's lucky enough to get their father's impossibly good reflexes and become the Seeker of the quidditch team." What he lacked in physical activities, he made up for in intellect. "Could you imagine? Me against my brother?" He let out an amused chuckle as he fantasized about doing so well in flying that he would have to play against Harry.
"It wasn't a particular potion." As students started filling up the classroom, Eddie's voice turned all the more quiet. "It was the philosophy of it, I'd guess. The fact that there's a potion for virtually anything you'd like. I feel like... if one wanted to research the limits of magic, which is infinite, the vastest portion of it would still be potions. There's always something new to create." He practically whispered the last couple of words, getting slightly embarrassed.
