one of the things i wish HoO and onwards did more with is the fact that. like. the main Argo II characters have very overt flaws and negative traits! Jason and Piper are actually pretty possessive! Frank and Percy get jealous really easily! Percy has a lot of strong insecurities (his appearance, his height, his intelligence, etc) and is very self-conscious! Annabeth is nosy and blunt! Both her and Nico can be kind of assholes! Leo and Nico being bad with living people isn't as much flaws in the same vein (though Leo can also be a bit of an asshole, but he usually is aware of when he's doing that versus Nico and Annabeth) and similarly Hazel and Reyna are both kind of lacking in the particularly notable flaws of that kind of department but like. the most we ever really get out of any of those is that Piper and Drew butt heads in major part because Piper is possessive over Jason, and Frank feels threatened by Leo hanging out with Hazel so much. We got a little bit out of Annabeth being a jerk to Rachel in PJatO, but besides that? It's like. zip. Zero.

But there's a lot of potential in those! Both for spinning it positive or negative depending on the thing! Jason and Piper being extremely protective over something they consider theirs and fighting to defend it! Annabeth being actually pretty up to speed about what issues different people are having cause she's sticking her nose in everybody's business because she has to know everything about everything. Or Annabeth getting in serious trouble because she got too nosy, or Percy or Frank getting into a situation because they got jealous over something (like Frank butting heads with Leo except it's less for dumb love triangle reasons), or Piper or Jason being unable to stand down from something or give something up because they got too defensive of it. etc etc. Let them be messier!

Concept: As much as I envision Jason fight against Krios being a choice he makes.

That he runs over from whatever he’s posted at with the 5th and challenges Krios to a duel in an effort to buy his friends time.

I can also see it as Jason being essentially forced to fight him.

That Camp Jupiter saw a titan approaching and said hey Grace, that ones yours.

Because they’ve weighed their options as proud as they are they are mostly made up of legacies which are still mortals. And they have one child of the big 3.

So they tell him to go face the enemy by himself because they can’t spare any numbers to help him.

It’s a heavy cost of course and not one they make lightly. And to Jason it feels like they’ve just signed his death certificate.

Because he may be the son of Jupiter but he’s still just a demigod and to fight a titan? It’s impossible.

And then Jason realised that they aren’t sending him believing that he’ll survive never mind win. It’s just so that they can buy themselves some time.

They’re going to kill him to save themselves. That’s how much his life matters to them all. It doesn’t matter how many years he’s served, all the things he’s accomplished.

In the end he’s just another tool for them to use.

So maybe that’s why Jason doesn’t argue, he doesn’t cry because tears didn’t save him in the Wolf House and they won’t save him now.

He doesn’t get goodbye he just turns his heel and marches to his own demise.

It was never his choice.

The fact he survived it all was beyond all reason but it didn’t change anything. They carry him atop there shields as if his survival meant something to them.

Jason sits on the top of the Argo II and looks around at his new crew. A new prophecy turning through his mind.

And just like then he has no plans to fight against it. It’ll be him, he’ll be sure of it and when he marches it’ll be his last.

At least this time he can pretend he ever had a choice in the matter.

I love to headcanon that compared to people like his sister or Percy that Jason’s anger is very calm.

Very controlled.

That Jason rarely ever raises his voice nor does he really yell. But even without that you can feel how pissed off he is.

And that terrifies people because for one Jason is a pretty chill guy all things considered. It takes a lot to get him angry.

So if you’re already there you’ve majorly fucked up and there’s no helping you.

And two, when the Big 3 get mad they resemble their parents. Thalia is her father’s storm. Percy is his father’s raging sea.

And Jason’s no different for while he looks like his mother. It’s when he’s angry that he resembles his father.

And I like to think Jupiter’s rage is distinctive from Zeus’s.

That Jupiters rage is that of a king standing over his court. Looking at the peasant before him and calmly asking them for a reason to not execute them.

Jason’s rage is the clouds covering the sun. It’s the wind picking up and the crackle of electricity across the sky. It’s all the signs of a brewing storm that grant a sense of unease.

It’s a warning that you’ve gone too far.

Because even when he’s angry there’s a level of restraint to Jason’s temperament. A sense of decorum, because even now he holds himself to his principles and rules.

And for Jason who’s outwardly so bright that he could resemble sunshine. Jason who seemingly lacks the jagged edges of Percy’s smirk and Thalia’s glare.

When Jason gets angry you notice the way it shifts his entire demeanour. The moment he goes from Jason to Praetor Grace.

No one’s ever seen the brunt of Jason’s rage and frankly no one ever wants too.

A few months ago, I said on this blog that in my head PJO is an anime with a badass opening credits. I meant it quite literally, like I can actually picture this OP in my head, with all the shonen tropes like Percy walking around pretty backgrounds, cool fighting scenes with lots of camera movements and huge statues of the Gods standing ominously in the background, Nico standing in the rain till Reyna and Hazel and Jason come for him and a ray of sunshine breaks throught the clouds and light hits his hopeful face, GIMME ALL THE TROPES hahaha. Doing the whole opening would be impossible for a single person but I really wanted to try one big “shonen” group shot, so here you are !!! This actually took me AGES, I’m not kidding, the folder for this on my computer is named “batshit crazy ” for a reason, it may not look like it if you don’t know animation but a really huge amount of work went into this. I think it’s actually the biggest thing I ever did for a fandom. I can’t say how many hours I spent on it since I didn’t count, but let’s say I started this in September and spent a lot of week ends and most of my Christmas holidays on it, and I just finished it this week. I had a lot of fun though !!! And I learned a lot too, this was my first time trying to animate japanimation style, with not many in-betweens and ultra dynamic poses. So yeah, I hope you guys will like it !

I want to thank fimyuan and bisexualjason for keeping me motivated with their lovely comments through the project, even when I was complaining about my own decisions to animate friggin’ skeletons, hahaha. Another big thank you to my friend Wekake who went through the animation frame by frame and spotted all the little compositing mistakes that remained ;p

A few words on the process : I animated and colored everything in TV Paint, drew the background in Photoshop, and composited everything in After Effects. The song is an extract of the Yowapeda opening “Reclimb” by Rookiez is Punk’d because I wanted something very distinctively shonen but no lyrics, and I like that song ^^ I animated directly without any model sheet references which is definitely not how you should do it, hahaha, hence the design inconsistencies, but honestly even my madness had its limit and I didn’t want to spend more than a year on this thing ;p

I'm truly sorry but the current scene stuck in my head is Percy's had a bad cold or something for a while but he's hanging out with his mortal friends and all the sudden has a bad coughing fit and chokes out this rock hard Thing covered in blood bc it scratched his throat and everyone is just staring in horror while he's like hmm. so who wants to drive me to the hospital? and he's alone in the backseat while his friends are busy freaking out and breaking the speed limit so he's checking out what he coughed up (they put it in a sandwich baggy for the doctors) when he realizes it's a fucking pearl. his body made a pearl it's only bloody bc his throat was dry and he's like...well there's no way to explain that to doctors so he's like hiding it in his pocket and has to let the bag go out the window acting like he lost it by accident and he's like 'oh oops...' while his friends are like PERCY DID YOU JUST THROW YOUR FUCKING TUMOR INTO ON COMING TRAFFIC?!?!
