Okay but seeing you get an ask about Kirby made me want to ramble about another ship and how English fandom's fear of wrong think created the rare instance of a Japanese fandom getting a queer reading the Western fandom refuses to see: In Kirby Star Allies, they introduced these characters who are three girls in a cult and are referred to as "Sisters". Two of them, Francisca and Flamberge, act super close to each other that even pre-release materials made a big deal about it (like going "Did she just call her "little Franny?!"") and the Japanese fandom feels like they are so obviously in love they don't even tag fanart of them being lovers as ship art because in their mind, they aren't even shipping them but just portraying them as how they are in the source material. Even JP fanartists who aren't yuri artists portray them as lovers whenever they include them in a group art. But English fandom, with all it's performative virtue signaling over liking fiction morally and correctly, gets so hung up over the "Sisters" part (because they are so, so, so scared that it could mean sisters as in family and that they'd be committing wrong think if they ship Francisca and Flamberge, they even still go "but they were raised together!!" if you point out the Japanese word is specifically used for nuns and the lore proving they aren't biologically related) and I've seen them comment "incest" on JP fans' art of them. The super ironic part is sometimes they ship Francisca with Susie (a girl from a previous Kirby game that Francisca has never interacted with) as a wholesome, morally correct ship and that's so funny because Susie is a literal racist (she refers to Kirby and his friends as "natives who need to be taught manners"). Because nothing says wholesome ship like shipping someone with a racist capitalist girlboss. Not to say you can't like Susie or the fantasy of her kissing Francisca but if your fictional tastes are to show off how much of a good person you are, well... good luck explaining why you love a canon racist or want her to find love LOL.
