Oh, aren’t you a lovely little angel? You’re quite obedient, you listen to every word I say. How kind of you. Oh dear, your feathers are all ruffled. Let me take care of that. No one’s been taking care of you? Just let me do this one thing for you, angel. Doesn’t that feel better? Less itchy, hm? You look so stressed, it’s been a while since anyone has listened to you, have they? Don’t worry, I’m here, you can talk to me.

I usually do not miss my wings. They were big and got in the way at times.

But I miss wrapping them around my loved ones as a silent plea to stay.

I miss the small ones on my head. I liked to cover my face with them when I was embarrassed.

I was never good at flying, but I liked to "float", to let the wind catch my wings and slow my fall.

There are many things I miss, many things I long for now that I am in this human vessel, many things I used to take for granted.

But I am still the stars, and the universe still lives inside of me.

When I look in the mirror, I don't associate my face or body with myself. I just see a pretty or ugly vessel staring right back at me. Because my soul belongs else where.

I feel as though I would be shunned away and called a fake if I ever truly joined any alterhuman space

Alterhumanity isn't something I can explain well -- my alterhumanity is the same way grass is green or the sky is blue. I don't HAVE an explanation for it, I don't have any profound thoughts about it -- it is me and I am it, simple as that. My alterhumanity is woven into my soul like a tapestry made of vines from the earth and whiskers from a feline

If you asked me "What does being an alterhuman mean to you?" I would not have an answer, alterhumanity to me is a distant feeling that you can never truly understand, but at the same time you feel so incredibly close to it. I don't think about it often, I rarely have any shifts, it feels as though I am constantly part creature

I am an imposter among humans but an outcast to my own kind, I am forever trapped in that middle ground -- never fully accepted by either

To the animals, the wolves, the lions, the foxes and cats and birds: Your eyes shine so brightly. Your fur is luscious, your feathers luxurious, your teeth furious and beautiful. Your claws are sharper than you think. One day, you will get them back. One day, you will be helpless, human, no more.

To the fairies, the angels, the aliens, the demons, the mermaids and sirens, the divine: Even here you are powerful. Even here you are divine and beautiful. Your wings are gorgeous, your horns and haloes majestic, your tails ethereal. Home will welcome you, welcome us all, with open arms one day.

To my fellow dolls, the marionettes, the puppets, the toys and ball-jointed: We may be delicate, but our subtle power defines us. We bend and move and dance in ways no human ever could. One day, our everlasting regality will return to us.

To the voids, the glitches, the abstract, the eldritch, the robots, the objectheads: Do with this brief moment of flesh what you will. You know who you really are inside, and that’s all that matters. Your soul still bleeds the color of the stars.

To the monsters, the zombies, the cryptids, the vampires, the werewolves and ghosts: The world will always fear that which it does not understand. We understand each other, and through this we have made our own world. We create our reality, and that’s what’s important.

To the therians, the otherkin, the fictionkin, voidpunks, and all other nonhumans: We are strong. We know who and what we are. We know what this flesh conceals. One day, the world will see us for who we are and accept us as her children all the same. For now, we persevere.
