The theme for Day 1 of Celrond Week, October 20th, is ✨ DISTANCE ✨

Take it wherever. Perhaps you want to write about very literal distance, perhaps a separation over sea, or by war. Perhaps a gentler take, distance between want and words (“though he said nothing of it” anyone?). The straight road? Perhaps an emotional distance, or the gap between the Celebrían who left, and the Elrond who returns? Perhaps our characters feel distant from themselves, or the world around them? Or perhaps, if you’re taking an NSFW route, difficulties in re-establishing sexual intimacy after a prolonged physical separation? These are just a few suggestions—feel free to head somewhere else entirely, go buck wild.

Celrond Week prompts will be revealed weekly across June and July, do follow this blog or the hashtag #celrondweek to keep updated!

psst hello! will the daily prompts be released in advance or exclusively day-of?

Hello hello!

They will indeed be released in advance: one overarching theme/prompt announced each weekend starting with Day 1 [Oct 20] this Friday.

So ideally all of them will be out by mid-August, which I hope provides enough time for percolation ☕️✨The “prompt wheel” and bingo boards and other such finger foods and sundries will also be up by the end of August.

Everything will be linked in the pinned post as they go up as well, just for ease of navigation 😁

Celrond Week 2025

"...and it was then that Elrond first saw Celebrían, and loved her, though he said nothing of it."

Announcing Celrond Week, a Tolkien fandom event celebrating the relationship between Celebrían of Lothlorien and her husband Elrond Peredhel, Lord of Imladris and Middle Earth’s favourite wifewise-guy. This event will run from October 20th — 26th 2025, and will feature three elements from which participants can pick and choose if and as they wish, or just go rogue!

A traditional “prompt list” — as seen in most fandom events, seven overarching themes and several literary/visual prompts within each one, to provide a spark of optional inspiration.

Bingo Challenges — a set of “bingo boards” that cater to those preferring to write sentence-fics, drabbles or shorter ficlets. These will be thematic, and feature short, or single-word, prompts that you collectively 'tick off' to reveal a 'prize' image underneath. Inspired by the @silmarillionwritersguild Potluck Bingo challenge.

Visual Prompts: for the artistically minded among us! These will include photo prompts, colour/mood boards, and even meme templates (Eg: “I bet Elrond is thinking about other elves…” Elrond: *thinking about taxation*) that you can take in whatever direction you see fit.

Prompts and boards will be shared on this blog across the next few weeks and in the run up to the event so do follow to keep updated, and the AO3 Collection will be linked here when live.

FAQ & Guidelines

How to:

Get churning! Come up with fanworks engaging with any aspect of El & Cel’s relationship, optionally follow the thematic prompts or play one of the Bingo boards, and post it across 20th—26th October here on Tumblr or over on AO3. 

Prompts, bingo boards and visual prompts will be posted on this blog across the next few weeks and leading up to the event. They are all entirely optional.

Please @ this blog, and use the hashtag #CelrondWeek to have your work reblogged + compiled in an event archive, or masterlist! 

If you’re posting on AO3, do add it to the event collection, which will be posted on here once live. 

Late submissions are totally fine!

Rules:

Live Peacefully: as explained in the FAQ below, this event welcomes all works including NSFW or “dark” fics. Please treat your fellow fans with grace. Bluntly, you can dislike interpretations or the content of any given fanwork, but harassment and rudeness is not permitted. Curate your own experience by filtering out tags you’re personally uncomfortable with. 

No Generative AI or Content Theft: please don’t use any sort of generative AI tool in the works you create, be it visual or written. Please don’t use or repost any writing or art by creators other than yourself without explicit permission: this includes reposting copyrighted work by famous or established Tolkien artists as well. 

No Bigotry/Discrimination: creations espousing any sort of bigotry (homophobia/transphobia/racism etc), whether covert or overt, are not welcome.

Do I have to use the daily prompts or play the bingo/challenges?

Nope, do whatever you like. If the prompts take your fancy, go right ahead with one or more, but in no way is it mandatory. Go where your imagination strikes you. Same with the Bingo Boards, although you do get various tiers of Certified Celrond Enjoyer™️ graphics for completing those.

When will prompts be posted / how do I play the bingo boards?

Prompts and boards will be revealed on this blog across the next few weeks and in the run-up to the event itself.

Are AUs or crossovers welcome? 

Indeed they are, go right ahead! If you could mark in the tags whether it’s a canon divergence situ or an alternate universe: modern sort of thing, that would be very helpful when categorising on this end for the masterlist, but yes, they’re very welcome. Same goes for crossovers, just mark the title of the other media in the tags as well if you’d like to make my life easier.

Are you TROP-friendly?

Sure thing! Works engaging with the Rings of Power or the LotR/Hobbit films are welcome, same with works set around any other adaptations. TROP, films and other adaptations should be tagged as such if they’re set in the universe of the film/show, again just for ease of categorisation and tagging.

Are there any content restrictions on sexual or dark content? 

No restrictions: everything is welcome in terms of content and rating, as long as it relates to Elrond, Celebrían and their relationship in some way. Explicit works will be tagged as such when reblogged onto this page, as will wider categories like rape/sexual violence, sibling incest, parent/child incest, specific kinks, —phobias, various flavours of dead doves, etc.  This by no means implies that works exploring the above themes are unwelcome. Very much the contrary: works exploring a broad range of themes across the palatability spectrum are expressly encouraged, especially when considering some of the aspects of both characters' canonical storylines. This tagging system is more an invitation for you to curate your own experience of the event (and fandom in general) by filtering out or blocking any tags you are personally uncomfortable with. For those posting stuff onto AO3, please follow the site's guidelines for tagging, and use their filtering system to filter out whatever you don't like seeing.

Does that apply to art as well?

Unfortunately, there's a small caveat there. If you’re thinking of visual artwork of the "genital" or “feminine presenting nipple” variety, you are more than welcome in the zoo but please post your work to the AO3 Collection or another hosting site and share a cropped screenshot, as Tumblr is not friendly towards such stellar sights. Same goes for anything excessively gory, please have a look at site guidelines before posting. Everything will, of course, be tagged appropriately or marked when reblogged here.

What if I ship Elrond and Celebrían in a threesome with someone else? Like Elrond/Celebrían/Gil-galad, or Elrond/Celebrían/Lindir?

Related: is this restricted to het works as Celrond are a het couple in canon? 

Ship away! Many great Celronds feature a third party, and the more the merrier. The ménage-a-trois structure is not mandatory in these works either: feel free to think about an Elrond trying to get his mind off things by engaging in a series of sloppy sexcapades, or a Celebrían exploring the carnal potentialities of the Gardens of Lörien. As this is Celrond Week, however, there is an expectation that whichever way you choose to go about it, the works feature the relationship between Elrond and Celebrían as a central thread.  On whether this is restricted to het works: of course not. Queer it up as much as you’d like. That doesn’t just mean slash or femslash third-party pairings, but also explorations of gender and sexuality through Celrond themselves, including queerplatonic or aspec approaches. One of the best Celrond fics this mod has had the pleasure of reading is, in fact, from a series exploring trans and queer identities in Eldar society, and some of the individual prompts themselves will be engaging with queerness, disability and gender. So: yes please, I hope it goes without saying that all approaches are welcome and encouraged.

Why Celrond? Is it an underrated ship?

No it probably isn't, but whomst among us is going to complain about more Celrond?
