Local journalist Roberta McKercher, who wrote for the Wood River Journal for 64 years.  A community leader, ‘Bert’ as she was affectionately known, wrote the column “Blaine Talk’ and lived in the Ezra Pound house in Hailey, where the poet was born.  McKercher often opened the home to Pound admirers, including Allen Ginsberg, who she hosted for tea in 1993. The Roberta McKercher park in Hailey is named in her honor.

The birthplace of Ezra Pound, in Hailey, Idaho. Photographed in 1995.
Though Pound's time in Hailey was brief, his legacy lives on through the Ezra Pound house. Journalist and community leader Roberta McKercher lived in the house for many years, and would open it to admirers of Pound who made pilgrimages to the house, including the poet Allen Ginsberg during his 1993 visit to the Wood River Valley. The house is now owned by the Sun Valley Center for the Arts, which offers workshops, classes, and small lectures in the space.
From the Wood River Journal records.

Sun Valley Resort founder Averell Harriman at the Sun Valley rodeo.  The Sun Valley rodeo was initiated by the Union Pacific railroad in 1937 but ran regularly for only two years before World War II and only sporadically after the war until the stands were demolished in the 1950s.
