The United Kingdom has returned 32 gold and silver treasures stolen from the Asante Kingdom more than 150 years ago in what is today’s Ghana on a six-year loan, Ghanaian negotiators have said. The artefacts, comprising 15 items from the British Museum and 17 from the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A), were looted from the court of the Asante king during the turbulent 19th-century clashes between the British and the Asante people. Ghanaian authorities have for years tried to reclaim gold treasures looted by British soldiers from the Asante kingdom, which is also known as Ashanti.

I know it can feel like clicking once a day isn’t doing anything. I know it can feel like every call and email sent to your reps is falling on deaf ears. I know it can feel like boycotting is pointless when Israel is still getting dozens of billions from the US. I know donating can feel cruel when Palestinians get shot on their way to aid trucks.
But we have to do something. Every video by Bisan and other reporters shows us Palestinians getting food and clothes and something to get them through the day. Every protest is bringing attention to a genocide that so many choose to ignore. During the Holocaust, during every slave revolt, during South Africa’s apartheid that mirrors Israel’s, just voicing support for Jews or for abolition meant something.
Even if it doesn’t feel like it right now. If your clicks and reblogging donation links means a little boy gets to smile and celebrate (below), if that’s all you can do right now, it’s always- always- better than nothing.

Imperialism, colonialism, and neo-colonialism have recently been brought to the forefront of popular consciousness through the ongoing genocide in Gaza. Equally, these systems have increasingly featured in the discourse of progressive movements in the Global North. Nevertheless, it can be difficult to understand what these systems actually are and how they relate to each other.  In this brief, we define imperialism, colonialism, and neo-colonialism in relation to the capitalist world system. A strong analysis of these systems is essential for developing revolutionary organising strategies.

Lawyers for Ron Barlas and the Łutsel K'e Dene First Nation (LKDFN) met by video in a Yellowknife courtroom Tuesday, for a hearing in the alleged fraud case against Barlas.
Legal counsel for the First Nation continues to push the court to settle the lawsuit without a trial. LKDFN has accused Barlas, the suspended CEO of Denesoline, of misappropriating almost $12 million dollars of its money for personal gain.
Lawyers for the First Nation say Barlas needs to be removed from power, contracts torn up and properties liquidated. The only trial they want, lawyers say, is to figure out damages.
"A court does not need a trial to deal with a case as obvious as this one," said Matthew Sammon, the lawyer representing the Łutsel K'e Dene First Nation. "There's oppression at every level of the CEO's functions."
Barlas continues to deny the allegations. Earlier this month, his lawyers argued his defence in the civil suit, saying LKDFN lawyers had massively overstated their case, taken evidence out of context and downplayed exonerating evidence. [...]

Notes from the poster @el-shab-hussein: For the record, this lawsuit has been going on for years. Over 14 million $ stolen from this Dene community.

April 25, 1974: Today marks the 50th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution in Portugal, the opening of an enormous class battle that was profoundly influenced by the anti-colonial liberation struggles in Africa. ----------------- Sam Marcy, writing in 1975:
“A Communist takeover of Portugal,” said the New York Times on February 17, “might encourage a similar trend in Italy and France, create problems in Greece and Turkey, affect the succession in Spain and Yugoslavia and send tremors throughout Western Europe.” The Soviet Union is then warned that “détente will be the first casualty.”
In the face of brutal frankness and open threats, can there be any doubt that the imperialist powers are preparing the ground for another Chile on the Iberian Peninsula? Do not the working class parties have the right – in fact the sacred duty – to prepare the mass of the people in advance for precisely this eventuality in the kind of manner which would put an end not merely to fascist threats, but to the ruling class and the system of exploitation upon which it rests?
The way Lenin and Trotsky prepared for the Constituent Assembly in 1917 offers an exceptionally instructive lesson. While utilizing all the legal and electoral opportunities offered, the Bolsheviks, knowing full well the counter-revolutionary nature of the bourgeoisie, armed the masses ideologically, politically, and physically for the insurrection. It was thus that they put an end to bourgeois rule and transferred the real power into the hands of the workers and peasants.

Dutch East India Company
The Dutch East India Company (VOC) was formed in 1602 by the Staten-Generaal (States General) of the then Republic of the Seven United Netherlands. The company was granted a 21-year charter with rights to trade exclusively in Asia and to buy valuable spices, such as nutmeg, mace, and cloves. Spices were in high demand in Europe to flavour food dishes and for use in medicines, and the company eventually gained a monopoly on spices.

Making new art is starting to hit diminishing returns, so I am going to try to spend a little more time promoting my existing work. I will still be making new stuff, just a little slower. I currently have 168 designs, each available across a wide range of products. You can find my full shop here. To see a design on different products click on the display product and scroll down or go here to browse by design.
I started doing this around the end of October/start of November and I've improved a lot at design in this time. I deleted all my older art and my shop is now a full time fundraiser for my best friend, who is Palestinian and the sweetest person in the world. It has been heartbreaking watching him suffer, I am attempting to help provide a little financial security for his family at least. We are grad students so we don't earn very much (speaking of grad school, go protest! There are protests at so many universities right now, please join one!).
I honestly didn't expect this shop to get much response, I'd only had it a few months and I'd never sold a single product before I started making designs about Palestine. I'm super touched by all the support we have received. I know there are lots of bigger, more official and more important fundraisers out there, but this was all I could think to do for my friend while still protecting his privacy. I'm very grateful you all have given me the means help this wonderful person and I'm so happy to see people using my art to promote the cause further. Thank you!
