the fact that Alicent cares about viserys' disgusting ass more than her own children is really a crazy change, especially after THIS night.

i mean, the new canon tells us that the reason Alicent wanted to seize the throne was not out of fear for the lives of her children, but because VISERYS supposedly wanted it that way. and when it turned out that this was not the case, she easily turned her back on them all and almost was ready to bring Aegon's head to Rhaenyra on a platter.

((look, Otto didn't love his grandchildren, but he would NEVER do that to them, not even to Aegon, whom he can barely stand.))

viserys absolutely dgaf about THEIR - his and Alicent's - family. he didn't care about her feelings, her dignity, her desires. he called her by a wrong name, took away her girlhood, in order to have sons whom he did not love. he never gave her anything in return, only took away. but she shows more respect and LOVE for his ghost than for her own living sons, who are ready to give their all for the sake of a grain of such an attitude towards themselves.

now it looks as if she used her children while they were convenient for her: Aegon, being burned, can no longer guarantee her power - puts him under the enemy's sword, Aemond, who has been her support for years, began to cause problems - does not even remember him. only Helaena is left, and I'm inclined to believe that if she "shows her teeth" too, all of Alicent's tenderness towards her will fade. (daeron, RUUUN-). she hardly perceives them as persons, but this is a separate conversation.

tbh, I don't see any redemption for her. but also I don't hope that in this show she will face real consequences, and not senseless humiliation bc... just watch s2.

Do you think younger Aegon cared about Lucerys and Jacerys? We saw that he used them as sidekicks to bully Aemond, but do you think his bond with them went beyond that? Like would he be sad to see them move to Dragonstone?

This has been on my inbox for a few days, and I keep going back and forth...

My answer is...it's complicated.

You can tell that Aegon enjoys their company but at the same time he can't differentiate the two of them and Aegon is drunk most of the time, but I think it's quite telling they decided to make them friends instead of their animosity like in the book.

I think it ties back to Aegon's line: "we have nothing in common" when he talks about his marriage to Helaena, Aegon wants to relate to people and he wants people to relate to him.

Which is probably why he wanted to pick up on Aemond, because he was quiet and didn't have a dragon and Aegon couldn't find within him to relate to his own brother. Unlike Jace and Luke who had dragons and were way more outgoing than Aemond.

Even in the dragon taming (?) lessons, he looks bored because he doesn't need them as the dragon keeper says, I think when it comes to Aegon, the thing he wants the most is people seeing him.

Which also ties back to Aegon being the only person in his family that has friends, genuine friends that are with him when he is grieving Jaehaerys, but not his family.

And then, he goes back to his "happy, carefree" self to be able to relate to his friends and go the the brothel.

Going back to Jace and Luke, I think he was sad when they left but because he didn't have anyone else to relate to him, if he had found others to relate to him, he wouldn't miss them as much.

God, the writing was atrocious and I am baffled that people got paid for this pile of shit.

The most horrific thing that happened in the history of Westeros, save for the sacking of Kingslanding with Elia Martell and the children was glossed over like it was nothing.

No one says Jaehaerys' name and in the show canon, we STILL haven't heard Jaehaera's name which is INSANE.

Alicent is a psychopath and a dumbass, can't believe they proved the patriarchy right by showing us that Alicent shouldn't have been Aegon's Regent, and that's saying something, considering that the current Regent tried to commit regicide.

And you can tell the writers don't know anything about medieval society because why the fuck was Alicent yapping about being "free" and "unnoticed" girl, you're the wife of a former King and the mother to another, these kind of words shouldn't even be allowed in her vocabulary.

And also, as @notbloodraven mentioned in her post, Alicent is condemning Helaena and Jaehaera into a life of poverty because they don't have any money nor lands to survive.

"We're leaving Kingslanding" TO WHERE?! Certainly not Oldtown after you sold out everyone, including the son that you were worried about not being kind.

I'm assuming Aegon leaving without Helaena and Jaehaera will be retconned, Larys will say something like: "She's safe in Storms End"

I don't think Helaena was supporting Daemon, more egging him on, kind of accelerationist on her part, you know? She was gloating about Aegon seeing victory so don't think that was her supporting him at all.

But who knows? Maybe she was, since the writing is so shit.

previous anon. sorry, where did i try to shame you into liking helaemond? i didn’t say anything about the content or likability of either ship. i questioned whether helaemond vs helaegon is actually an insurmountable ship war where shippers must be bitter enemies locked in constant battle or if you have that perspective because of how you approach shipping. i’m sorry if you’ve been harrased, but i know plenty of helaemonds who can make that same claim. harassment is the responsibility of the people who do it, not the ship itself. i just know a lot of people are tired of the constant drama/discourse but i guess you want to fan the flames instead of putting them out.

i actually don’t think it’s normal to want your ship to be be bigger/more popular than another one? it’s normal to want an active fandom full of art and fic, but whether than happens has nothing to do with how popular any other ship is. i know you don’t believe people can like both helaemond and helaegon, but as someone who does, i can’t help but wonder if the reason believe it’s possible not possible is bc you have an all-or-nothing/do-or-die approach to ships and therefore shipwars? lots of people prefer to multiship or simply don’t care about ship discourse. it’s getting tiresome to hear people say constantly say helaegons and helaemonds are natural born enemies because that’s just not true.

You can believe whatever you want, I was attacked by helaemonds and a lot of others that were as well.

If you like both, good for you, you do you.

Why does prev anon think Helaegon need to be more popular than Helaemond? I thought many shippers liked both? I loved Helaegon but don’t like that too much it’s about Helaemond when it doesn’t need to be. Who cares. That focus gets overwhelming when it’s not about this ship that we all like

But to answer your question, no. If someone says they are a helaemond and claims to love helaegon, Aegon is just a villain and Helaena is rescued by the knight in shinning armour, a lot of people were saying that Aegon will in fact rape Helaena, Alicent and a minority was saying weird things about Jaehaera as well. Some of them were saying that Aegon will give Helaena brain damage after B&C, some of them said that people won’t feel sorry for Jaehaerys dying since he is a product of incest.

You probably weren’t here when it happened but I was harassed by helaemonds and had to take a break from posting and Tumblr.

The main thing is that helaegons are tired from being attacked and saying we’re delusional when the ship they love the most has literally zero clues and is completely fanon.

So yeah, wanting your ship to be bigger than one where people attack, bully you and tell you deserve to be abused because of it isn’t that weird.

Aegon should have torched his ass at the brothel for not even acknowledging that it was Aemond's recklessness that got Jaehaerys killed in the first place. I hope Helaena does.
