The popular olive-green trend has swiftly followed the khaki’s of Spring, they have not only bombarded retail outlets with a variety of trends embracing these hues but they have also taken over catwalk fashion for Summer/Autumn 2016. According to her styled view “Olive Green is one of the biggest colour trends this Spring/Summer 2016”. The warm, earthy hues provide transcendent undertones that are easily matched with other neutrals especially black or deep blues. However, I must admit that I confused the olive trend for the khaki hues because of the strikingly similarities. It was when doing some fashion research that I realised that what I thought was khaki was actually olive. The Olive trend has been embraced by many designers from Alexander Wang who put the colour to full use on her Celine catwalk, alongside other’s such as Nina Ricci who used it to create an intriguing look that is ‘assertive and sexy’. It replaced the usual soft and chic sensuality that had become essence of the Nina Ricci style we see on her catwalk today.
Personally, I absolutely love Nina’s Collection, I perceive it to be daring, cutting edge, unique and bold with some real statement pieces. The way she incorporated the utility look with feathers; nappa leather, organdie, chiffon and satin proved a complete demonstration of courage and true creativity. As I looked through the collection a spark of excitement ignited within me, it made me feel inspired to step out of the box and experiment more with mixing fabrics. I also embraced Roberto Cavalli’s vision to add brighter shades of green to the deep olive hues as this creates a bold look and oh do I love a bold look. As I was browsing through Look Book I came across a fashion conscious young man Dangles who rocked the Cavalli look in a very simplistic, yet memorable way.
His streetsyle incorporates the use of brighter shades with the earthy greens and he went further by pairing them with another neutral undertone. I admire his Ladies, I know that the blog is dedicated to city girls/women however, from time to time I will be showing love to those males who captivate the essence of a trend or style in relation to the topic I am discussing.
Casual Day wear
Last weekend I went to Nottingham carnival and my oh my was the olive trend the prominent style of the event. Almost every one was donning the trend both the young and the old, the flexibility of the hues makes it possible for all ages to wear it and that fact that it is incorporated in most styles. For this particular article I felt compelled to demonstrate how the earthy greens of Spring/Summer 2016 can be worn for almost every occasion. The styles I have selected range from evening wear to casual, chic to simplistic.
As stated earlier last week I had a family day out to Nottingham carnival and me being me, the thing that exhausted my planning process was what to wear? I needed to stay in trend whilst dressing practical because if you know anything about English weather at this time of the year you will understand what I mean. The uncertainty of the weather, the grassy location of the carnival and the fact that I was travelling via public transport led me to opt for a sporty casual look. For this look I wore an olive track suit which was lightweight and extremely comfortable, cool yet enough to sustain the drop in the climate.
The stripes on the side of the track suit make it more fun in that you can match your accessories according to one of the four.
For instance, the top you wear underneath can include red, white or black without looking overly colourful. I choose this printed crop top as I believed it would add a touch of chic whilst still maintaining that sporty, playful look. The thing I love most about the track suit is the cuffed bottoms as it makes it more stylish and versatile in that it can be worn with flats or heels.
Although I was tempted to team the track suit with heels I had to go for the more practical option and wore it with a pair of wedge pumps, that have become my favourite summer shoe owing mainly to the comfort factor.
Date Night
Whenever its date night my perception is that it’s your responsibility as a woman to make that extra special effort with your appearance as it’s your opportunity for you to not only look sexy but also to make your partner fall for you all over again, especially when it’s a dinner date. Sitting across from your other half looking stunning and smelling equally as good keeps him wanting you like he did from the start.
Alright, that’s enough I can’t share too much as I will get carried away and go off tangents as I also love engaging in meaningful conversations formed around relationships. Okay, so last night was date night and this time he decided to go for a meal in mailbox and I just couldn’t refuse lol. Another love of mine, fine dining and trying new foods and seeing new places. Any who let’s bring it back to the initial topic which is the outfit I quickly put together, as it was a spontaneous date which gave me only 2 hours to get ready. If you know me personally you will know that this is seriously not enough time, makeup whilst singing requires 1 1/2 hours minimum, dressing time after a dance off, followed by a personal catwalk show requires at least another 2 hours and running around like a headless chicken requires sufficiently less time with just 1 hour minimum.
I chose to wear something comfortable that exhumed sexy sophisticated, something that would enthuse the momentum of the evening and have his attention fixated on me. After all it is a date and the perfect opportunity to ignite the fire over and over again….. wink, wink. The alter neck dress was the perfect option but to add more flavour and uniqueness to the look I teamed it with a Pastel Pink long line blazer, alongside a pair of olive ankle strap heels. Further along into our relationship you will come to understand that I am a very big fan of pastel colours, they have an energetic way of implementing brighter hues into an outfit in a more subtle way. However, on the other hand if overdone it can have a very different outcome, the rule when applying pastels is to be guided by minimalism to ensure the garment remains the focus as oppose to the pastel.
Party Time
Partying isn’t something I do often but when I do party the first thing I have to consider is my outfit, then the appropriate footwear followed by the type of hairstyle to compliment the look I am aspiring to create. However, the type of look I go for depends on a number of key factors like the location, type of venue and the sort of event overall. As this was a somewhat low-key night I opted for a comfortable, low key look that screams sexy chic. For this look I wore a suede deep olive bralette with a pair of viscose trousers, teamed with a pair of green sandals.
I love the bralette as it entwines two featured trends into one must have piece, the obvious one being the earthy colour and the other being the 70’s suede which has been embraced by Rebecca Minkoff and Jonathan Saunders in their Spring collection.
To accentuate the look I incorporated a gold body chain in order to add a little flavour without taking too much away from the outfit itself.
When creating an outfit so simplistic I think it is fundamental to stick to the less is more principal and add accessories in accordance, ensuring that you add without taking away.
Olive Obsession The popular olive-green trend has swiftly followed the khaki's of Spring, they have not only bombarded retail outlets with a variety of trends embracing these hues but they have also taken over catwalk fashion for Summer/Autumn 2016.
