One thing I recently sat down and realized it is insanely hard to just casually pick up realm of the elderling as a whole. Aside from the fact everything is split into trilogies, you would damn near think the publishers are trying to get you to read the books out of order.
Royal assassin cover: from the author of fools assassin
Assassins quest cover: author of assassins fate
Hell I once heard some copies of mad ship just have a preview of Fools fate at the end. That's 4 books later and the last in a trilogy, it doesn't even make sense for an introduction
#how badly did anyone else read these books out of order just curious#rote#farseer trilogy#liveship traders#tawny man trilogy#rain wild chronicles#fitz and the fool#robin hobb

You don’t have to answer this, but I trust you enough in a “he seems like a nice person” way that I don’t see much harm in sending the ask.
Would you be able to share some reasons for hanging around? Life has been really hard and overwhelming lately, and I’m just feeling so tired of everything and existing as a whole. Thank you.
Much like 14th century peasants could not have possibly preconceived of the internet, you cannot possibly preconceive the kind of joy or love or peace that you are yet to experience until you experience it. The inability to comprehend a happy future is not the same as the inability to experience it.
If you are feeling anything like I’ve felt, you may feel incredibly old and tired and that you’ve already seen everything worth seeing. This is because at any given moment, you are the oldest and most knowledgeable you have ever been. This will be true in ten minutes and it will be true in ten years, and yet, here you are, younger and less wise than you will be.
There is no guarantee of a second chance at life. Look around you. There are mushrooms that talk and spiders that purr and whales in the ocean the size of cathedrals and water that glows in the dark and languages with so many words that almost nobody knows them all, and stories to read and art to look at and genres of music you haven’t even heard of before that will make your skin tingle and your heart race when you hear them for the first time. And you only get to be here for a little while, like a five-minute ticket to an all-you-can-eat buffet. You already have so little time. You already have so little time
Do you want to die, or do want things to be different?
Do you want to die, or do you want to escape?
Do you want to die, or do you want the pain to stop?
Would dying solve anything that couldn’t be fixed by changing your name and moving away somewhere nobody has ever met you before?
Are you in a hurry?
It gets better. That sounds like the biggest lie in the world. And I figure you probably aren’t going to believe me, because I know I didn’t believe it when people told ME that. But it will get better. I can’t tell you when, though. One day you’ll just wake up and realize it got better without your notice. And then it’ll get bad again, and you’ll think it was a lie again. But then it’ll get better again, and those better parts will get longer and longer every time until the bad parts are almost nothing
The end of the world has come and gone a hundred thousand times since the very first mud-brick shelter collapsed in a storm and the very first loom-woven tunic tore on a branch and the very first mother laid flowers on her baby’s grave. You’re here. I’m here. The world will always be ending, and someone will always be there. At the very least, you’ve never been alone.

Half way through tawny man and it is really funny to me how back in the Farseer trilogy a hoard of emotionally unavailable adults (Burrich, Chade, Patience and Verity) were lining up to adopt him. And in tawny man, a bunch of angsty temperamental or autistic teenagers(Hap, Dutiful, Nettle, thick) are lining up to be Fathered by him.
#is this the tawny man trilogy of should i start calling this the adventures of FitzFumblesFatherhood Farseer#tawny man trilogy#rote#fitzchivalry farseer#dutiful farseer#patience#burich
