trying to word this in a way that isn't hideously regressive and reactionary, but i do think, for me personally at least, the most effective "lady knight" character archetypes and stories are the ones that exist in a setting that at least acknowledges the existence of gender-based oppression/essentialism and patriarchal hegemony. which isn't to say that nobody can or should create art where societal values are more progressive and women are allowed and even encouraged to become knights, but that - to me - exploring what it means to transgress against the established social order in order to become a public figure whose intended purpose is to maintain, protect, and reinforce that same established social order (through violence) is much more interesting.

i'll defend fanfic for my whole life. like the joy it brings is genuinely transformative and indulgent in a way unique to the genre. it isn't meant for a market, it isn't meant to be sold or marketed. it is born out of such care and passion for a media that one must write and must share it, so other folks can enjoy it to. for no other reason than love and joy. do you know how special that is? especially in our current social and political climate.

This purely because I'm curious to see where others stand with 911 season 9 and not meant to start negative discussions. I've seen a lot of people over hiatus say that they're not watching season 9, and as someone who still has no fucking clue what I'm gonna do, I'm curious to see what most people on Tumblr (that doesn't have me blocked) are feeling right now. It does happen a lot that people say they won't watch something but end up watching it anyway (*ahem* me with 8x15 and onward) and I am not judging at all!

Personally, I'm conflicted. I think I'll watch from the sidelines at first and see what happens. If Bobby is back, I'd probably watch again. Big Buddie hints that are undeniable hinting at canon (like admitting of feelings) could maybe sway me to watch. Outside of that? I don't know. 911 was my comfort show but it's not feeling very comforting anymore, but watching 911 is also a habit by now. Also, not watching means getting big spoilers that I otherwise wouldn't have wanted spoiled.

I think my brain still needs to adjust that 911 isn't the 911 I love anymore and that my favorite character of all time is gone now
