“ you’re such a sweet guy, mason, i find it hard to believe that i’ve been the only interested one. ” there’s a quiet that settles over them after he’s finished talking, one that yasmin takes as a moment to contemplate where the fuck they go from here. her skin warms as he compliments her, missing the way that he awkwardly flirts. it’s just so endearing. her gaze drops down to his lips for a split second before meeting his twinkling eyes. “ what happens now is you walk me to my door and i invite you in for a nightcap. ” she replies, undoing her seatbelt.
"i know you wouldn't have." he was grateful that she was understanding of his issues even though they'd caused her so much hurt. "i wanted to tell you, i really did. you're just the first woman to ever truly be interested in me and you're so beautiful... i didn't want to blow it. i didn't want the rejection or the embarrassment." his eyes meet hers for the the second time that night, their closer than they've been in months as she leans into him. her beauty takes his breath away for a moment. "so... what happens now?" he wasn't sure that his confession would change much, at the very least she would know that none of this was her fault.

“ yes! it’s been on my bucket list for years. ” but between teaching and running her family’s museum— she hadn’t found the time to properly plan a trip. until now. her nose scrunches as she laughs, trudging through the thick snow. there’s a witty comment on the tip of her tongue, but it dies as soon as they reach their set up yet completely deserted camp. liz’s brows pulls together, confusion washing over her features as she parts from august and begins to walk around the site. “ hello? ” she calls out, voice echoing around them. she stomps her way over to one of the tents, unzipping it and sticking her head in. empty. “ what the hell? where’d they go? we weren’t even that far behind. ” better yet, where could they go. it’s nothing but snow and the mountain landscape up here.
"you're really making the most of this trip, aren't you." breath rises in a puff of frosty air as they start walking again. august's eyes follow the sunlight's fading arc, then look to the almost-complete camp up ahead. he's beginning to miss his coffee machine and office slippers; the man just isn't built for the outdoor lifestyle, though liz clearly is. "i'd love to, as long as i can find the will to get out of my sleeping bag," he retorts, then begins to hurry up towards the camp. "fellas! please tell me you're getting the fire going..." his voice trails off. there's no one there.

oliver is hanging on to her reaction like it’s a lifeline, a cutesy smile on his face when she expresses her like of his new additions. almost anything he does is for her, for her reactions, her approval. it might not be the healthiest thing, a subsequent effect of the honeymoon stage that their relationship is in, but he really doesn’t give a fuck. mina is like, the first real girlfriend he’s ever had so it makes sense that he’s chasing after her validation like a starved person chasing a meal. his cheeks heat up at her comment and he has to resist the urge to bite down on his lip. “ i think they look rad as shit. ” oliver comments, holding up the mirror to his face and tilting his head from side to side to get a good view of it. “ i’m really leaning in to this whole only-guy-in-the-band-who-is-also-the-drummer look. ” he returns the mirror to the piercer and lifts his hips to slip his phone out from his back pocket. “ let’s take a picture, babe. ” he beckons her to get closer, opening the camera app.
fortunately for her, the process goes by much quicker than she thought, even if mina had to turn her head away for most of it. she only turns back to look at them when the piercer asks the big question. ❛ i think ... ❜ she trails off for dramatic effect, taking a good look at her newly pierced boyfriend smiling cutely from his seat. it feels abnormal to look at him so lovingly without an affectionate kiss to follow, but by the strength of his hand squeezing from earlier she knows to stay away from disrupting the fresh piercings. ❛ ... that i need to take him home as soon as possible. ❜ the flirty comment prompts a laugh of approval from the piercer while they hand oliver a mirror to take a look himself. ❛ do you like it, babe ? ❜ she asks with a grin, even though she already knows the answer. ❛ is it everything you've ever wanted and more ? ❜ because it definitely is for her. ❛ it changes your whole vibe, in a good way. i like it. ❜

when she looks away awkwardly, he wonders if he’s overstepped by asking of her home. so he drops the subject entirely, partially satiated by the promise that one day she would lead him there. but that begs the question: how long does she plan on staying in belspear? after washing up how she did, he’s under the impression that she’ll only be here long enough to recover and get back on her feet before returning to her mysterious homeland. the idea of sofia leaving so soon has a weight settling in his chest, but he forces himself to dissipate it. spencer would much rather enjoy the present with her than waste time dreading her departure.
her apology is paired with the gentle hold of her hand, and he absentmindedly lets his thumb stroke the soft skin there. he’s heard those words too many times to count. as a mere boy, it would bring tears to spencer’s eyes any time he was met with pity and sorrow over the passing of his father, the king, but as he grew into his own— he let those emotions fuel his prowess for adventure. “ that’s life, unfortunately. it got a little easier over time but i do find myself thinking of him each time i venture into a new place. ”
and as if there wasn’t more for them to have in common— sofia opens up about her mother, and now it is his turn to utter comforting words. “ for it to have been so sudden… makes you appreciate the life you have. to live every day as if it were your last. you’re strong for enduring such loss, darling. ”
two souls who lost a parent at a very young age, finding each other in a peculiar situation where one washed up on shore and the other was saved by an angel. all this is reminiscent of some romance novel the schoolgirls fawn over. she looks up at him with those big, beautiful brown eyes and his breath hitches in his throat.
he doesn’t even mind that she’s called him my prince again.
stay with him, if that’s what he wants. is that what the prince desires? for her to stay and continue to be a calming balm amidst all the chaos in his life as of late? his heart says yes, but his mind is having a hard time agreeing. what about his savior? what if she were to appear right now? would it reveal that his attraction to sofia is purely physical? would he leave her for whomever it was that saved his life that fateful day?
spencer doesn’t think, he acts. it’s magnetizing the way he’s pulled into her, ducking his head until their noses are brushing against each other and his warm breath fans over her skin. “ sofia, ” her name falls so sweetly from his lips, “ can i kiss you? ”
he asks her about how far she must live and sofia can only awkwardly smile , looking down and avoiding eye contact for a moment in case he catches on to her lies and strange demeanor. then again , she's been odd from the moment she set foot on land. god , the servants and the maids had to teach her how to walk within hours before she met the prince. the people have been kind , but extremely wary of her appearance. it's only ever been spencer who accepted her for exactly who she was.
or , well ... not truly who she was , but for as far as her personality goes. the passing of his father causes a gasp to leave her mouth — giving her all the more reason to never reveal she's a mermaid and daughter of the king of the seven seas. she wishes to think anything different , but he might've been the reason why spencer's father got into a shipwreck in the first place. she holds his hand tightly , eyebrows furrowed and gathering the courage to look him in the eyes again.
'' i'm so sorry , '' she whispers , a sorrowful expression on her face , '' that must've been so difficult , and hard. you were so young. ''
sofia presses closer to him , as if there was any space left to remove between them , and places her head on his shoulder. '' i lost my mother when i was about ten years old. she got really sick all of a sudden , and it happened within the span of just a day. we never discovered what it really was. '' she adored her mother , but not her father or her sisters wanted to ever talk about her. '' so i guess ... i kind of know what it's like. '' she looks up and carries a wistful simper. '' you're not alone , my prince. i will stay with you , if that's something that you want. ''

he does feel a twinge of guilt for having her come along knowing how queasy these things make her, but after her reassuring squeeze of his hand that guilt dissipates and is replaced with nothing but admiration for his girlfriend. oli braces himself as the piercer approaches him, explaining the process one more time before he feels the sharp sting of the needle poking through his skin and he hisses briefly, inadvertently gripping mina’s much smaller hand in his. “ sorry baby. ” he mutters, as the action is repeated and now two lip rings adorn his pout. “ alright, girlfriend, what do we think? ” the piercer directly asks mina and oliver turns his head to look at her, smiling as wide as he can despite the fresh soreness he feels.
❛ there's actually lots of things you won't be able to do, but i'll allow it. for the culture, ❜ she teases him some more before the piercer finally enters the room. there's the usual spiel about positioning, aftercare, etcetera that mina effectively tunes out as soon as the sterile needles are unpackaged and laid out for use. she hides her faltering smile with a bite of her lip. ❛ i love you babe, and i'll hold your hand and everything, but i'll be standing over here. ❜ mina takes a few steps back ; still close enough to squeeze her boyfriend's hand, but far enough to look away from the scene that'll surely make her stomach churn. there isn't much that can make her squirm, but this unfortunately is one of them. she gives oliver a thumbs up. ❛ you got this. ❜

“ you break it, you buy it.” lizeth teases him gently with a laugh as he fumbles with the camera, taking a few steps back at his direction to pose herself against the scenic mountains. she makes sure to stick her tongue out during the last selfie between them and she thanks him once he passes the camera back over to her. the cold nips at her nose and that’s enough of an incentive to get her to help set up camp. “ i’m thinking of going on a small hike tomorrow morning to catch the sunrise and a higher point. would you like to tag a long? ” she asks as they walk side by side to rejoin their group.
adjusting the weight of his backpack, august reaches for the camera; it slips briefly in his grasp as he winds the strap around his wrist, and he hits the shutter button while trying to catch it. the flash goes off, the lens pointed in a random direction, and august laughs nervously. "sorry. i got it." he peers through the viewfinder, looking for a good shot. "how about... over there. yeah, move back a bit. perfect." the mountainside is right behind her, but just over her shoulder stretches the open sky, the expanse reaching into the distance beyond sight. he clicks off a few rapid ones, then, instinctively, turns it around and takes a few more shots of them both before he hands the camera back to liz.
