I’M STARTING COLLEGE!!
I knew the door to my "college life" started when I decided to take entrance exams on various universities. Engineering has been ranked 1 in my preferred choices not because I like numbers, analytics, etc. but because I have a weird part of me that likes to take on challenges. I am an average person who doesn't really excel in math (I just pass when i have to, like, if i know the basics and process, I'd kind of survive). My hobbies are literally out of my course choice's league. I'm into arts and music. But there's this part of me that says "Hey, I think working with that is cool." Silly, right?
Everyone says that you should follow your dreams. Choosing what courses to take holds your future. ('Cause yes, you'll be stuck in that for almost 5 years and have a job about it for the rest of your life). But I was weird, so...
I took 3 college entrance exams - National University, Batangas State University, and De La Salle Lipa. My first choice in NU and BSU is Mechanical Engineering. Why? The reason is kinda childish - I want to be like Mr. Tony Stark. HAHAHAHA. Yep, I'm a Marvel enthusiast. DLSL doesn't offer Mechanical Engineering so I had to put Industrial Engineering there and to be honest, I don't have any idea what Industrial Engineering is.. or what do industrial engineers do. It's a very wild move.
It seems like luck is on my back. Fortunately, I passed all three of these CETs. Yay, I'm so glad. SO the only problem now is choosing which univ I shall enroll. I easily eliminated NU because it was pretty far. It is in Manila and I live in Batangas. I kind of just took the exam there 'cause I want to take an exam out of my province hehe. Choosing between BSU and DLSL is pretty tough! I have so many factors to consider. But I guess I have to describe these factors.
BSU is a VERY WELL engineering univ. It produces top notchers - mechanical engineering top notchers!! I want that. Who doesn't want that? Plus, it is a State University. State Univs in our country are free. NO tuition fees. Passing the admission test there is like a scholarship grant. But the thing is, even though it is in Batangas, it is still far away from me. I live in Cuenca, and BSU is located in Batangas City. Transportation is tough, and boarding houses and dorms are little expensive. And also, I grew up as a freaking introvert which means I rarely leave the house. I tend to get lost when I'm going places. I never even seen the main campus of BSU. HAHA.
DLSL is a private univ. It is one of the 16 De La Salle schools in our country. Oh, and by the way, La Salle is one of the top 4 univs in the Philippines. It has a pretty big name. Because it was a private univ, the tuition is costly. We can't afford it. But I took a scholarship exam here. And yes, I passed! I am now eligible to study without fees. Plus, this univ is located in Lipa City, just an hour away from my home. This is where my parents want me to go. No hassle transportation, no need to rent dorms, etc. The story of how I took an exam here is pretty catchy.
DLSL was never really one of my univ choices when I was thinking of what schools to take an exam. The main reason was its tuition fee. It's very expensive. Even the test fee is costly. So DLSL was really out of my list. PLOT TWIST, DLSL offers a seminar and a free admission test to the top 10 students of the senior high school. I heard about this with my other schoolmates and I really never expected myself to be one of the top 10. Another plot twist, I was included and I was on rank 10. Actually, there are two of us in the rank 10, meaning we're tied on the spot and my name was on the last part of the list. Okay, that's pretty cool. I joined them and that was my first time entering the prestigious university. We had a seminar, and then the admission test later on. I wasn't prepare at all. And I really don't plan to pass.
Fast forward, the pandemic came. The school year ended. My high school life is over. Vacation wasn't really fun because it's called quarantine. The only fun I get was when I livestreamed all of the concerts of my favorite band (I'm an OORer haha). Until the enrollment for BSU started. That time, the final results of the evaluation of my scholarship in La Salle is still ongoing, I have no idea if I passed or not. So I decided to pre-enroll in BSU (because of the slot). Fast forward again, pre-enrolling made me know my section and meet my 'future classmates' online. We even have a group chat. Getting to know them was fun because almost every one of them has the same interest as me - anime. Yes, we're a bunch of weebs.
And then this day came. June 24, 2020. The results of the scholarship status in La Salle was sent to my email. I checked it and heck yeah, I passed.
This is where I really need a massive decision making. My parents told me that i have to be practical. They said I'll be suffering financially if I studied in BSU since it's so far. I think they're right. That would be so hassle. La Salle is clearly my best point here.
Another funny thing, I was looking for signs whether I'll study in BSU or La Salle. And then I suddenly saw my cousin, and she's wearing a La Salle shirt (a hand-down shirt from another cousin of ours). I think it's clear. But I still have a day or three to think about this. HAHAHAHAHA.
Thank you for reading this, have a very nice day.
